Anyone go to the concert?

How did it go from a transport, food, venue as a concert stage perspective?

Click this link then click visitor posts

Seems people enjoyed the concert but that was about it

is there any plans to increase parking at Metricon? They could expand the whole precinct to make it a new entertainment precinct with potentially a casino, live sites and maybe even a shopping centre.

parking isn't going to help the fact there is one road in and one road out of the stadium. other stadiums have gates surrounding the stadium with roads around the perimeter as well, we'll forever have a bottleneck of busses, taxis & cars until the tram line gets extended to nerang station. a ferry could also help, but there's needs to be volume to support such a service.

simply put, better & more bus services before and after the game is what we need especially if we get better and gain bigger crowds, until the tram comes through.

A few years ago after the game they had busses to different areas like Robina,Coolangatta,Surfers Paradise now it’s only nerang boowaggan and Broadbeach south and I think that causes the massive lines leaving

The concert itself was amazing not a bad seat in the house.
41,600 people there according to The
Coch.
But like always everything else was a complete nightmare.
They had about 4-5 extra gates outside for people to enter but it was so unorganised i walked in without anybody even scanning my ticket.
Some food and drink places ran out of stuff even before the 8pm start time.
That means at least a 45 minutes to an hour and a half wait at other outlets.

People were using any toilets they could find including garden beds.

And the bus back to Nerang station took us about an hour and a half

So getting the positive out of the way
Queen are a great stadium rock band and gave a great concert
Sound was great

Let's think about the negatives
1. I'm surprised at how poorly Metricon handles big crowds.Getting in and out is just a nightmare.
I guess we never really have to worry about it when our crowds are @15,000 at The Suns, but 40,000 at Queen and Comm Games is just abysmal
My surprise really stems from the fact that it's a new stadium and you'd think some planning regarding getting in and out would have been done
One of the grounds problems is unlike most arenas that often have 360 degree access points, access is only from literally one side

2.Seating.I was on the 50m arc towards the boundary. This was supposedly premium seating There was no banking, just those event white plastic chairs.Anywhere on the arc wide of the centre square you had no chance of seeing the stage unless you stood.I'm 196cm so for me it's fine, but if you are going to a concert there in future make sure you get a seat directly in front of the stage or seating in the stands.Even as a tall person I saw virtually nothing of the light shows as they weren't projected onto the big screens

3.As a direct result of that shorter people were standing up and in the aisles. The gorilla security started pushing said people back into the seats they couldn't see from.I think there would be some unhappy punters. For many it would have been an audio show with occasional glimpses of the big screens for those seated wide on the ground

4.Usual food and drink and toilet debacle with big events

Metricon has some work to do to make it concert worthy IMO, and I'm not actually sure a large cricket/AFL ground lends itself to a concert venue simply because of the width. The rectangular stadiums do much much better

Very stupid of you to think your seats on the playing surface itself were going to be elevated.
It’s the same set up for any stadium show in Australia
Thankyou for highlighting my stupidity:thumbsu:
You're quite obviously a brilliant fellow in all aspects of life
Just as your phrase"not a bad seat in the house " confirms
But maybe you're just a sad Metricon/ Suns fluffer
I'm not what you'd call a regular concert goer so I guess my stupidity was fuelled by the cost of the tickets as "premium"- and I don't have any experience of previous Metricon concerts or ground seating and I don't think I would have been alone in that

People should stop complaining. Be greatful that they chose the GC to stage one of their concerts...
Ummmm...if you pay $300 for a seat I think there would be a reasonable expectation that you could see the stage, but again, I'm not a regular concert goer so maybe I'm wrong
Shania Twain at the BEC , same price was amazing viewing and experience

BEC is an Entertainment centre so it’s built for concerts. Metricon was built for football but happens to have hosted a few concerts too. Anyone would know that if you were in the seats on ground level that it’s flat. Work it out for yourself.

Sure, but it very much depends on how wide they put the seats and you can't really gauge that from seat maps
This is a thread for discussing Metricon as a concert venue
I'm just giving my opinion that it works well with respect to acoustics and staging but from a range of other perspectives it doesn't work well at all.
I'm not expecting my bad experience to change anything, but I'm also not sure how they can market the seats I was in as being superior to the stands

I went and was a cracking good night. It’s a Queen concert not the wiggles so everyone is going to stand up to watch - I was at the 50 in the middle and reckon it’s a ripper of a venue for further concerts.

lines for food were long but that’s the same at any event really - seems they got their stuff together and setup some can bars so no queue for a beer in most places.

train line would help empty the joint faster but can’t fault them when there’s a line of 50 buses waiting to get people out. Remember seeing foo fighters at suncorp and it was just as much of a wait to get home.

Well said.
It’s bloody amazing how entitled some people are nowadays.
It’s not hard to do some quick research before you go to an event.

I’ve only ever been to Metricon for Suns game but I went back and looked at other people’s photos of the foo fighters concert from a few years ago to get an idea of how the stage a seating might have been set up and booked my seat accordingly

I think the biggest crowd issue Metricon has is the fact there is only one side for exit /entry
Most stadiums have 4 side access
At the end of the event not only is everyone funnelling to one set of gates but also straight into the bus zone
I'm not sure how they can fix that other than exits through the sports centre as the other side has the trailer park, but maybe a path around the training oval to an exit near Birmingham rd might be a start
I'm also not sure how much it would help, but an exit onto a promenade along the Nerang River with the long promised ferry would be a start

I was surprised at the mix of people at last night's event
As a 195cm person I didn't really have an issue as long as I stood
But there were many many people around me in their 70's and over who were too short to see, too old to stand and maybe (shock horror) hadn't even heard of the Foo Fighters
Sucks to be them eh
But...entitled

The blue is the current schmozzle that is exiting Metricon.Pedestrian flows crossing each other and everything out through one side. The red is just some possibilities to improve exiting.Everyone who comes to the Stadium says it's great but the getting in and away puts people off.

A footbridge over Nerang Broadbeach rd would be great but probably too expensive but with the new M2 connector dumping in 500m up the road they may see some advantages in terms of traffic flow and pedestrian safety
Maybe consider pedestrian lights outside the Sports Centre that only work on event days too
