Good morning all, while there has been a growing call from posters to sack Dean Bailey, there hasn't be a lot said regarding our assistant coaches.

Who do you think has performed, who needs to go and why?

The current line-up is:

Senior Coach - Dean Bailey
Forward line Coach - Josh Mahoney
Midfield Coach - Scott West
Backline Coach - Brian Royal
Assistant Coach - Mark Williams
Development Coach - Kelly O'Donnell
Innovations Coach - David Dunbar

It pretty hard to gauge who hasn't performed, I would suggest that only those in the know at the club could judge that. I mean we can sit back and say X area of our team sucks, therefore assistant Y sucks and must go. But that's hardly fair is it? The players and the head of the coaching staff must be held accountable. If the senior coach thinks an assistant is rubbish he should get rid of him or his own job is in strife.

these two keep there jobs, as far as im concerned every one else is massively underperfoming


i would love someone to please answer me why josh mahoney is our forward coach?? did he even play in the ****ing forward line???? i thought he was a flanker at best... has to be the worst forward coach in the league!!!!!

our development hasnt been great as far as im concerned but ill leave this as unknown\

innovations, what innovations? not playing the press, no forward press, nothing new?

our ball movement coaching is poor as our foot skills have been terrible all year, we move the ball poorly at all zones in the field

The forward coach can only operate within the overall game plan, so I would say be careful when judging Mahoney.

However, the obvious thing is that if Bailey goes then so do many of his assistants. The article in the paper today about not only having to pay for Malthouse but also for a whole team for him is a very good point.

A think a review of our fitness staff is also in need. We've got some unlucky injuries at the moment, but I'm not sure we are fit enough in general.

Very sensible comment. I guess the assistants can only work within the confines of what the senior coach wants.

For what it's worth, I think we miss Sean Wellman. He was Backline Coach while he was with the Dee's and is now with Essendon. I know Essendon has had wholesale coaching changes, but there backline has significantly improved on last season.

Must be a tough gig as an assistant coach. If you are good, the senior coach gets the credit or you get sacked when the senior coach gets sacked. If you are bad you get sacked! Seems like all roads lead to being sacked ha ha.

Yeah you're absolutely spot on about us missing Wellman- I think he laid the foundations well tho n for a young backline that's what we needed.

I think your emphasis on attacking football might have a detrimental effect on the lads. And by attacking I mean belting the opposition off the ball

But really. I wouldn't mind seeing Mark Williams with more responsibility if that's possible. It's no fluke that he steered Sandringham to three premierships, and it's not as though the Melbourne listed players at the time were world beaters.

Though he did have big Sauntner in the forward line. That may have had something to do with it

I think you'll find that Dunbar spends his time searching for 'innovations' at opposition clubs' training sessions - spying from trees and cars and balconies.

And this is why it's virtually impossible to guage a lot of our coaching staff and their improvement.

We get smashed in the clearances week in week out, our setup in the middle is deplorable, even with an AA ruckman. Surely he must be held accountable for that.

Todd Viney was the midfield coach at the Hawks when they won their premiership, surely he gets a promotion next year and Westy gets the arse

Backline Coach - Brian Royal = SACK, Gone backwards, Tom Green's backwards man has nothing on you Brian Royal.
Assistant Coach - Mark Williams = SACK, VFL stench, been around this place too long, move on.

Innovations Coach - David Dunbar = SACK, 1) Who the **** are you and 2) your 'Innovations' are non existant
