We should use this.

There are plenty of people on here who I'm sure have thought at one time or another of something the club could do to make things easier/attract support/drum up membership or gates, time to start sending it in.

I sent off a variety of suggestions today:
- Get someone to take pictures at training
- A different player each week answering fan questions instead of the rather dull Bode's Beat/Morton's Mail etc.
- More video content, possibly with the reins given to someone on the injury list who can fill their time interviewing other players, touring facilities etc.
- Twittering/Texts during Match-Days (an analyst at half-time perhaps sending out a few interesting stats, 'N. Jetta 7 tackles, Jones leading hard-ball gets. Go Dees', something like that)
- Our own match previews (written by our own fans, not the token AFL journo who tips us to get slogged whilst serving up the same each week as our 'one to watch', shock horror if Davey ever missed a match, who would they choose?)

Let's do our bit and try to help out. We'll hit upon a winner at some point.

BC is this a new hotline or something that's been around for some time. This is just the thing I was looking/hoping for. I think I've got a small idea that might boost attendence. I'll give it a whirl.

Thanks for pointing it out and kudos on some fun ideas for them already.

I think it might have originated with that big ideas conference they had for supporters, though it hasn't been very well advertised.

Just found it whilst snooping around the website.

Care to elaborate?

Great initiative by the club though.

Care to elaborate?

As I said it’s just an Idea. Maybe the Dee's already have or have had something in place. Maybe it’s an average idea. I might submit it and see what they think.

Most games our attendance sucks, we can’t pull a crowd at all. For as long as I remember, whenever I went to the footy red and blue was not the dominate colour in the crowd.

Season 2008 I attended a lot of (average) Melbourne home games, dutifully scanning my membership card each time. However last season I only made it to a very small number of games. This had nothing to do with performance or lack of interest, It was because the people I went to the footy with in 08 had commitment changes (work) in 09 and I didn’t want to go by myself. If I have no one to go to the footy with I feel that I may as well sit on the couch and watch it at home. I believe it should be a social, fun outing.

I think Melbourne FC would get a greater attendance figures if they had a more social group for supporters to attend and meet on another. It would be a huge benefit to me and anyone like me if they had a program that would encourage people to come to the footy week in week out with a couple of guys they may not meet sitting in the stands or at the local pub

This could come about in several ways that could be made rather simple. It could take the form of a BBQ before a few Melbourne games, with a few players not playing that day on hand. It would have several activities that perhaps encourage people to meet new people with similar interest (MFC). With any luck, people may click and decide to go to a couple of games together.

Another idea could be simple encouragement from a Melbourne 'official' on forums not unlike this. Forming up members who would be happy to meet up and go to games.

At the moment we have record membership numbers and a new supporter base in Casey. I think the Dee's need to capitalise on every opportunity to encourage people to get down to games. Especially with the members, treat it a bit more like a gym membership, it would be good for retention as well.

Anyone have any thoughts or a dislike of going to the footy alone?

….anyone want to go to the footy with me :p

I think we should have more theatrics pre-match.

I took my uncle from the states to the Richmond Carlton game in round 1 last year which I thought would be quite a specticle given the hype surrounding the match and large attendance etc.

He enjoyed the night and was impressed to see 85,000 at the G, but when the game actually started he turned to me and said - "is that the start??"

When I considered it through someone elses eyes it made me realise that other than the big banner and a loud siren, its a little boring. My uncle was obviously used to dancing girls, fireworks, announcing players names etc.

Some of these things might not catch on easily here and money would need to be spent. But Im sure some effort regarding hype and 'showtime' at our games would help attract an audience. Especially as we rise up the ladder and actually start being a decent side to watch.

What are you talking about? What other sporting club in the world has a more motivating pre match ritual than the MFC trumpeter?

Maybe we could expand the single man into an entire brass section!

Personally I don't mind going to the footy by myself. Preferably it would be with someone else, but I'm someone who would be kicking himself if we won and I didn't go for no good reason.

I like the pre game bbq thing. How about they organise special passes to these bbq's to people who turn up to a training session during the week? Example, watch the boys at Casey or wherever we train in town these days, get a ticket and before the game you could be sharing a sausage with Daniel Bell and Jake Spencer. Hell I've organised to get off work early already!!

I still think they should bring back the playstation challenge. I always used to cringe when they would pick a female melbourne supporter (sexist I know, but I don't care) but at least it was something for fans to cheer for. Not necessarily ps challenge, but something for fans to do while waiting for the game.

We have a trumpeter? Maybe you cant hear him from the members.. Ill ask the MCC if we can arrange a piano accompanied by a harp or something for the members end.

As far as the Casey thing goes, it has to be about getting young people in the area involved/interested somehow.

My first thought is Primary Schools. Contacting local Primary schools and offering an excursion to training as a morning P.E class. The kids could get autographs or have a kick/drills with a couple of players. Or just shown around the gym etc. Getting players out to the schools. Have a handball comp and give out a few prizes - Melbourne jumpers, footballs or bags or something that will attach the kid to the club.

We went out there for the growing demographic so we need to engage and get young kids talking about the Demons in the school yard.

We've often flirted with that meet-up idea ourselves here.

Probably worth mentioning to the other Land/'Ology factions too, there must be a pub near the 'G where a gathering could occur.

I don't mind it, I like to put the headphones on so if I'm alone I can switch off to the world around me & listen to the commentry while watching the game.

To a lot of the games I make the wife come along to bump up the crowd by 1 if I don't go with mates. She is not a huge footy fan but likes to watch it live so it can sometimes be a bit of a distraction.

I don't mind going alone if the people I usually go with puss out, but there's nothing worse than somebody who is there on their own making a dick of themselves, yelling out and trying to talk to everybody.

Shut up the back, put headphones in and stfu.

Nothing will ever beat the North game where Newton took MOTY and in the nearly empty Telstra Dome top deck I got asked to give special comments for the guy who was recording his own commentary of the game.

London tavern on Lennox St is great for after game drinks. Smashing beer garden out the back.

Agreed - great pub that. All Nations further up Lennox is another hidden little gem. They run a free shuttle to the gate which saves you the walk too.

Unfortunately the bar chicks wear clothes in those ones though.

Big Jimmy is on the net all the time making tweets. Surley he must pop in from time to time...

I'd doubt they have someone dedicated to search these sites on a regular basis. I'd hire meesen or wona to do it though. They don't play
all that much footy anyway.

It has been around for a for at least 12 months if not longer. It has been used to come up with some great ideas like the Demon Heartland membership. The original idea came from 'land, was sent through via the email address and further discussed at the ideas forum last year. So it does work!!

Back a little closer to topic - does anyone know if the football club have anyone read through sites such as this to gauge supporters thoughts and ideas?

From what Schwab wrote on 'land last year they do sometimes read the sites between 'ology, 'land and here but it is time consuming so thebest way to get ideas to the club is through the email address.
