MFC Interview Request

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Sent off a request a few weeks ago now to be allowed to send through a few questions to the players who we don't often see interviewed (your Jettas, McDonalds and Nicholsons of this world), but didn't receive a response.

Was hoping:

a) If possible, to get the weight of the board behind the request

b) If allowed, to come up with questions that we would all like to see answered (meaning beyond the Burgan specialities which are all we can really expect a club official to ask)

Interest?

I not sure what sort of questions you'd like to ask that are any different to the Burgan interviews.

If they're the ones that you used to find in the Footy Record (Favourite blah, blah), they were as boring as hell.

I think you can get a better idea of the player through a Burgan video interview than written questions, where the player has time to think before responding.

I'd ask all 3 of those guys:

What position do you think you are best in and what are your strengths and weaknesses?
How physically ready will you be for the 2012 season?
Who should captain Melbourne in 2012?

I'm not interested in Footy Record questions, I just don't want 12 interviews between now and Round 1 where each player is asked in four different ways how their pre-season has gone, or how this pre-season rates to Bailey's pre-seasons. BORING.

Ask them about where they want to play, who they compare themselves to, what they want out of the next season, which areas of their game they need to improve most etc.

Those questions I'd personally prefer them to think about, not just answer on the spot where they would be more inclined to play a straight bat and give mundane answers.

Fair enough questions, but I can answer question 1 for you. "Just happy to get a game, and will play whichever role the coach decides".

I'd imagine that most clubs would treat BF with a degree of distrust because of all the BS rumours that eminate from here. So I'm not suprised that your request was ignored.

I'm happy to support it & can make contact through the contact we have who created the DemonsHQ account.

They at least might be able to provide some direction.

I think pointed questions that help us find out about them as a person & if we touch on game style/playing or fitness we can ask direct questions.

Say fitness for instance, I love knowing what physical attributes/capabilities pllayers have to compare with myself when at peak fitness (many moons ago).

What you best 3k time?
How much can you bench or squat?
Did you excel at any other sports?
What is your best attribute?

Just an idea but I think it needs to give some insight into a player as a person not just as a footballer.

The more specific, the better. It gives them less chance to give airy-fairy answers.

"2 minutes to go in the last quarter and we are down by 30 points. We're going to lose the game. You see your opponent get the ball on his half back flank and sets off down the wing with no one in sight. You are 5 metres behind him. Do you chase as hard as you can? If not, why?"

Gee I wonder what their answer will be mm.

A) Nah I'd stop chasing, game's over.

or

B) I'd keep chasing until the final siren, I don't want to let my team down.

Take your pick.

Well I'd like to hear. They need to know that there are thousands of people in the stands who feel that, whilst not as physically and technically gifted, they often would put it more effort.

I think MM is making the point about situations that happened last year... With A being the answer...

If you expect the players to give anything other than the stock standard answers, then you're kidding. And even if they do, the club will closely monitor and potentially block anything controversial.

How much activity has there been with the DemonsHQ account? I don't think I've seen a single post - it's a club BF account isn't it or am I missing something?

I have spoken to them & at this stage they have advised there main focus for social media is facebook & twitter.

We will keep working on what we can do to engage them & they said they are open to options & suggestions.

I thought of seeing if we could get them to ask a few questions of a player from us in the interviews with a player they do or something like that.

I don't think they realise how big BigFooty is. I read that the blues twittered all the player reviews on their twitter account & encouraged people to take a look.

I can't really see say a Matt Burgan doing that sort of thing but I could see maybe Beamer asking a few on behalf of the supporters in his BB&B interviews as they aren't that serious and that is how the club would like it I'd imagine.

Even a mention of BF would get a few signing up you'd think. The more members the more we have to chip in to player/s sponsorship but the downside is it will draw attention to more idiots/trolls.
