I am looking for any Melbourne 'themed' pubs where I can watch interstate games next year. I currently live in Footscray and there are a few pubs near me which have all kinds of doggies paraphernalia plastered all over the walls. It makes it a great place to watch games if you're a dogs supporter. I would just like to know if anyone here knows of any similar places where a demons supporter can feel at home? Thanks

There's the Leighoak in Oakleigh. Went there about 10 years ago, I think it was owned by MFC. Have not been there in a long time, so not sure if the venue still exists or is affiliated with the MFC but someone here might know.

It's in the SE suburbs though, so it will be a bit of a drive for you.

Also the Bentleigh club is an official partner of the MFC:

"The Bentleigh Club offers a wide range of activities which include;
Function Rooms catering for 20 to 300 people - Outdoor garden and deck with seating for 100 - BBQ area - Gymnasium - Sauna and Spa - Squash Courts - 4 full-sized billiard tables - 150 seat Bistro with seasonal menu and daily specials - Bowling Green - Member’s Bar - Fox Footy, TVN and Sky Channel."

But its a bit different from a suburban pub decked out in red and blue.

The Leighoak is easy to get to because it's on Princes Highway. It's not too bad as there are plenty of tvs (get there early and you can have a booth to yourself) and the volume is up reasonably loud. I went there I think three times last year for interstate matches and enjoyed it.

Actually Neville Jetta was there with his girlfriend at one of the matches, I think the Brisbane one.

Actually, I went to a few games at the Bentleigh Club this year and have been really disappointed with it. They squash everyone into a really small room down stairs. (They don't open upstairs for Dee's games anymore.) The main screen is small, and there is very little volume.

Will give Leighoak a run next year for sure.

Bentleigh Club and Leighoak Club are owned by the Melbourne Football Club.

Not much int he way of "themes" these days, as both are trying to shed the Melbourne name when it comes to marketing, in a bid to get more customers in.

I have it on very good authority that the Bentleigh Club was on death row due to a lack of patrons (Bentleigh is a die-hard stkilda area)

The only reason the Bentleigh Club still exists is because of the MFC. The footy club is actually doing a feasibilty study into buying and perhaps re-locating the Bentleigh Club.

At the moment it relies heavily on a very small, very old demographic for it's patronage. Shit location and hard to find. And they certainly don't go out of their way to make MFC supporters feel welcome on match days. They have one or two cabinets of MFC merchandise, and they throw us a few sausage rolls at half-time. Would rather watch games at the Rosstown or the College Lawn.

This is not true. We do not actually own either venue. They are our social clubs.

We are in fact looking to merge with the Bentleigh Club. Read this if you get a chance. I hope the club is doing the right thing. They have certainly put a lot of research into the proposal.

What are the best watering holes close to the city after a game at the 'G for interstaters? Getting sick of Y&J.

Try the royal on punt road. It's not Melbourne themed, and it's a bit of a dive.. but you get to see boobs.

The place to go before the game!

Back in 2008 went there when we played Carlton at the G... Such a good show we forgot what we were doing as we walked across the road to go to the footy.

I think I've been there as well. Is that the place where after the game they play the club theme songs?
