All of a sudden I'm interested in watching this weeks game. I don't want the players start a brawl or do anything thuggish. What I do want to see is our side try to hunt the opposition. Be the aggressor. Get under the skin of their opponents. Put a little doubt into the other side.

G2B the reality is that football is about aggression and intimidation. Successful AFL coaches have known this forever and a day. I reckon most people who have played any form of senior football know this too. It doesn't mean that there's no place for Champions like Stynes or Flowers but you're kidding yourself if you think aggression isn't important in Aussie Rules.

How did that go for Robbie and Jim? No flags, 1 GF between them.
And yet they never tried to throw one even in the absence of success. Don't think anyone would call them pissweak though, we just need more players like them who put their body on the line anyway.

Aggression is different to violence. You can be aggressive in your attack on the ball or the contest, but playing the man is never anything but cowardly and cheap.

Roos is listening to us?

"I wanna see the players get angry"

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/video/2015-08-26/roos-views-round-22

Answered a lot of the criticisms and questions we've been discussing here, including the point about aggression.

Mentioned the frustration of some "supporters" who seem to be itching for a loss to vent but are quiet when we win (a few on here like that). He's probably better to not bother with emails I think.

Lock in a return of Jones and Bail too and maybe Riley. Harmes and Brayshaw to be rested, there's not too much in the cupboard to replace them, especially if Lumumba is out too (please) and if Tyson isn't ready. Think Kent will be underdone to come back in yet.

Agree that Kent will run at Casey again building time on the ground.
Tyson should be ready based on his having trained fully on Monday
I think some more mature bodies would be sensible against Freo. But I'd love them to take White as well....

Is it nasty to suggest this game would be a good time to give the old boys about to be delisted (McKenzie, Jamar, Bail, etc) their send off game?

We had thugs happy to belt blokes during those eras, it doesn't help without talent. We need skillful players who hate to lose and will do anything to avoid it, not angry blokes who take a swing.

You've all got it wrong demanding biff in the second last round, why not be smart like Dawes and do it in the final round so you miss Round 1 next year?

What makes you think we'll actually play that way this week? :drunk:

No point doing it now. Meaningless at the end of the year when the players have already checked out. And it can't be against someone like GWS who nobody cares about.

Need to absolutely flatten Hodge or Pendlebury or someone like that. Where it really means something. Where we KNOW they'll come back at us, and instead of backing down like we've done before, we go back at them.

That's what the line in the sand was. The Dons had guys like the Johnson's, McPhee, Murphy, Solomon etc. Known hard nuts. The Dons were hitting the Hawks hard all day. Then the Hawks just went BANG and went back at them in full force. That's what needs to happen. This football club needs to change the way others see it and, more importantly, the way it sees itself.

Next time we play the Hawks I would love to see this 5 minutes into the first quarter .. Imagine the statement to the footy world

It doesn't need to be cowardly or cheap or anything. Just when you get the chance, hit them as hard as you can. And keep doing it. And keep doing it. And when they come back at us, ****ing pile in at them. Show them we're not going to be pushed around anymore.

Couple high tackle free kicks Vandenburg style , any player gets in front of Dawes or hogan make sure they don't do it twice

Definitely an experiment worth a go. Even if half our team got suspended, it would barely be noticeable on our win/loss record anyway - a slightly worse percentage is all it would cost us. Let's get unsociable.

Wont happen, once Phil Read retired and Pia put Brad's balls in her purse (id give mine over to her as well) it was all over.

Genration Y, the marshmallow generation, finding toughies from these guys is like trying to find a needle in a haystack and Hawthorn found all the needles in the said haystack.

Its no coincidence we played our best and most attacking footy of the year in round 1 is it?

I hope he belts an umpire then takes a dump on the ground within the next two games, that should see him spend next year on sidelines = premiership.

We played against a shockingly bad side, which helped.

Most of their positives this year have been the development of first year players like Miller and Saad, and they were only debuting in rd 1.

Best attacking footy we played this year was either against Richmond or Collingwood, just missed too many shots to really keep the board ticking.
