I dont vehemently dislike these dudes, but i am scratching my head a bit at how insane some people are going over them. They're ok and i would be curious to see how they recreate live what is IMO just a batch of ok songs that have been produced super well to make sound alot better than what they actually are.

Theres a handful of good tunes on it, but i cannot get anywhere close to being able to sit through this album from start to finish. I find it gets annoying very quickly.

Good post.

To everybody else:

For those of us who are not so good at interpreting lyrics from songs, would somebody care to explain to me WTF 'kids' is meant to be trying to say?

Is there even a point to it?

i like them.

had never heard of them and saw them at a festival in belgium (rock werchter) and really enjoyed their set. got their album, enjoy the first half of it but it falls away a bit on the back half. it's on relatively high rotation at the moment.

everyone i speak to about them just raves about electric feel, but i think it's one of the weakest song's on the album.

i wouldnt say their musical prodigy's or anything, but their music is good fun.

i knew the reaction to their live gigs would be very mixed because most people are going purely to hear electric feel**, even though it's not even close to a reflection of any of their other songs (although in saying that you can't really peg them into one genre as they're songs are very diverse)...

and on top of that they don't have much of a big back catalogue yet and good chillout songs like 'pieces of what' or 'the handshake' and maybe not even one of the best songs on the album 'the youth' aren't really suited to live music... but yet they're still going to have to play these songs at their gigs otherwise they won't even last half an hour. i think someone said they're set only lasted 45 minutes anyway....

**by most people, i mean those who only listen to the radio to form their musical opinions....

Im not sure but kids seems to be about our legacy we are leaving for our kids in terms of environmental destruction.
At the start of the song, the kid is our generation, then our kid is born, and we forget everything that we'd learned.
"control yourself, take only what you need from it"

dunno, id much rather interpret the handshake..

Their album is almost flawless, sounds like they're really nothing special live though from what people here are saying (although some people think they're 'hotshit' if they dislike bands which everyone else likes)

Quite like a few of their songs but really don't like some of them too.

I like Electric Feel, Indie Rokkers (not on the album) is good as well.

One of those bands that has an awesome "sound" but writes shit songs.

I didnt quite get what that meant either but if it was to do with the lyrics you really should listen to the entire album.

Tall poppy syndrome.:thumbsu: Its pretty common around here.

that sums up loads of people in the music scene.

it's too funny the amount of people i've come across he used to tell me to get into the kings of leon but now when i ask them if they've heard their new album (which i haven't got yet) they simply mutter somthing like 'yeah its crap. not what they used to be'

Maybe it is crap.

maybe it is. i don't know. but it seems a tad co incidental that so many kings of leon fans have decided their latest album is shit just at the same time they are hitting it really big....

Usually, breaking into the charts is synonymous with being shit. Look at who is keeping them company. I'm not stating an opinion on them one way or the other,i don't really listen to them. I know my mum asked me to buy the CD for her after she heard one or two of their songs on radio,to me that is dangerous ground for any band.

Sometimes, someone discovers the dark side.We have newcomers all the time :)They learn that the vast majority of truly high quality music is to be found a million miles from any top 40 chart or mainstream radio station. Sorry, that isn't elitism, it is just fact.

I'm a huge Tool fan,i think their last album was shit.I don't care if it sold 10 copies or 10 million,it was shit.Maybe the same happened with KoL.

i agree with you man, it could be crap, and a lot of artists get worse as they get bigger. so maybe it is.

but there is definetaly a degree of "if its popular, it's crap" mentality amongst people these days, particularly arty 20-22 year old university students (these being people who make up a fairly high percantage of my mates)....

and then who knows, i might subconciously like the album only because i want spite those who have said it's ordinary. i suppose in that respect it can works both way.

Actually i think the arty uni students are some of the worst offenders. They glorify everything they hear on JJJ.
