Tua Tagovailoa (thumb) has been downgraded to doubtful for Week 12's game against the Jets.
Ryan Fitzpatrick certainly will draw the start in an excellent matchup. Tua had been limited all week after jamming his thumb on a helmet, and the team seemingly is siding with caution due to their confidence in backup Fitzpatrick, a player who replaced Tagovailoa last weekend for "performance" reasons. With the Dolphins in the thick of the playoff race, the door for Fitzpatrick to claim the starting job might be wider than initially appeared. After the Jets, the Dolphins face the Bengals in Week 13.

theres my conspiracy theory coming into view. i so reckon tua got crunched so hard around the hips in that sack last week, he got benched next play supposedly for performance reasons. but gradually thru the week we got told now hes dealing with injury (thumb). now hes gonna miss another start. reckon he tweaked his hip a little, not a lot, but they want to quell talk

Wonder if we beat the Bills next week, if they lose to Pats tomorrow, if we still can win the division
If we both end up 11-5, we'd have the same division record, same conference record, and split 1-1 h2h.

Tiebreaker would then be common games. Bills beat Broncos and Seahawks, while we lost to both.

So, no, we can't win the division.

i doubt very much that we would do anything of any substance in play offs. Our offence is just pure garbage. Next draft must be about finding some weapons for Tua (or Fitzmagic!) but we need a quality running back.

Look what a decent RB has done for Tannehill. Of course I don't expect a Derrick Henry to be available, but with two first rounders, we must be looking to get skill players on the roster. We need WR too. Boy, would Landry be a good receiver for Tua

I think we need a gun WR first round and probably find a gun RB mid to late round seeing as how thats becoming a modern trend. We probably need a pass rush specialist or two as well.

I think Gaskin is pretty bloody good,. Kamara lite. Just need a goal line back to compliment him.

The stud LSU WR will probably still be there at Houston's first pick ~5 to 7.

Offensive line still needs work too.

Speaking Tuesday, Dolphins GM Chris Grier committed to Tua Tagovailoa as the team's starting quarterback moving forward.
Grier added the usual caveats: We will add competition at every position, can't rule out drafting a quarterback, etc., but it is unsurprising to hear. Even with the Texans' No. 3 overall pick, Tagovailoa did not play poorly enough as a rookie for the Dolphins to go the Josh Rosen or Dwayne Haskins route. Playing with a limited supporting cast, Tagovailoa certainly did not light up the stat sheet, but he largely avoided turnovers while hinting at play-making ability. There's no guarantee he is the long-sought answer in Miami, but his rookie year was ultimately a normal one.

Dolphins signed TE Chris Myarick, DE Nick Coe, S Brian Cole, CB Javaris Davis, CB Tino Ellis, C Tyler Gauthier, OT Jonathan Hubbard, LB Kylan Johnson, OG Durval Queiroz Neto, DE Tyshun Render, QB Reid Sinnett and LS Rex Sunahara to reserve/future contract.
Myarick did some yo-yoing in 2020 but failed to make an impact during his brief stays on the 53-man roster.

Dolphins coach Brian Flores issued another vote of confidence in QB Tua Tagovailoa on Thursday.
"A lot of attention gets paid to Tua, but I thought he made a lot of improvement over the course of the season," Flores said, not unreasonably. "I'm excited about the future with him. He's a young player, talented player, bounced back from the hip. I think this is a big offseason for him. That Year 1 to Year 2 jump will be important like it is for all rookies." The Dolphins selecting another quarterback at No. 3 overall with the Texans' pick will be a popular offseason meme, but it's not going to happen. This is the same Dolphins brain trust that selected Tagovailoa, and the Twitter complaints about his play never quite matched reality. The Dolphins have two great non-quarterback options at No. 3, either landing a premium talent or trading down and accumulating more picks as they get close to completing their rebuild.

Dolphins hired Charlie Frye as quarterbacks coach.
Frye was Tua Tagovailoa’s coach at the Elite 11 competition for top high school quarterbacks. His hiring is another indication the Dolphins are going all in on Tua as a franchsie QB. NFL Network's Bucky Brooks said on Twitter that Frye “has great chemistry with [Tua] and understands how to craft plays around his skills.” A 2005 third-round NFL draft selection by the Browns who later played for the Seahawks and Raiders, Frye has served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Central Michigan since 2019. He'll replace recently fired Robby Brown as Miami's QB coach. Frye will be charged with developing Tagovailoa, who struggled mightily through large swaths of his rookie campaign.

The Jets are Deshaun Watson's preferred trade partner.
The rightfully disgruntled franchise QB prefers the Jets "because they hired Robert Saleh to be their coach and Watson values Saleh so much he wanted the Texans to interview him for their vacant head coach job," according to the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero. The Dolphins, per Salguero, rank second on Watson's trade wish list. Recent reports out of Houston indicate it's a matter of when -- not if -- Watson is dealt away after the team's string of management mishaps that alienated the cornerstone of the franchise. Saleh has been complimentary of Sam Darnold, lauding the QB's "unbelievable arm talent," but has stopped short of naming him the Jets' 2021 starter. Darnold's shot at the starting gig would vanish the minute Watson is dealt to New York. Watson -- who has yet to officially request a trade -- would be a giant upgrade for all Jets pass catchers, including Jamison Crowder, Chris Herndon, and Denzel Mims,

Tua Tagovailoa said his rookie season was "below average."
"This past season wasn't up to my expectation that I have for myself," said Tua, who posted a lowly 6.3 yards per attempt and threw 11 touchdowns in nine starts while being benched several times for Ryan Fitzpatrick. "But there were a lot of things that I was able to learn from. Being able to look at the defenses and how different all of the schemes are with defensive coordinators. ... Hopefully I can compartmentalize everything and have a much better season next year." It's a refreshingly honest assessment from Tua following a gutting end to Miami's 2020 season. Dolphins officials, including head coach Brian Flores, have given Tua votes of confidence in recent weeks, and the team brought in Tua confidant Charlie Frye as their new QB coach. There remains a chance the team will vie for Deshaun Watson's services depending on the Texans' trade demands, but for now, Tua looks to enter 2021 as Miami's unquestioned starter. Fitzpatrick is an unrestricted free agent.

Dolphins signed kicker Jason Sanders to a five-year contract extension worth $22 million.
Fantasy football's No. 2 kicker in 2020 is cashing in on a profoundly efficient season in which he made 36 of 39 field goal attempts, banging through all 36 of his extra point tries. He established himself as one of the league's big-footed kickers by nailing eight of nine kickers over 50 yards. Sanders' extension includes a $10 million guarantee. His 2020 numbers stand in stark contrast to his 2019 stats, which include seven missed field goals on 30 attempts. Only the Cowboys and Falcons attempted more field goals than Miami in 2020, giving Sanders the opportunity necessary to become a waiver wire darling in fantasy. Sanders will probably be one of the most over-drafted kickers in fantasy football next season.

thats a hard video to watch. the narrator ... jesus christ!

Obviously there is the Deshaun Watson chatter, but I remain bullish on Tua. The guy came back from a massive injury, and he was a rookie. I saw signs. Was he as good as I would have loved? Nah, but lets temper expectations. There is a guy from the Bills that has demonstrated what a little patience can bring.

We have some serious draft capital. Lets use it wisely and get Tua some weapons, and then season 2 we can judge a bit more accurately.

Miami Herald's Barry Jackson reports there's "mutual interest" between the Dolphins and impending free agent Aaron Jones.
Miami will have roughly $26 million in cap space when the new league year begins and could easily create an additional $36 million in cap space by restructuring contracts and/or outright releasing a number of veterans. The Dolphins could also opt for the cheaper route in adding to its backfield with the No. 18 overall pick and instead allocating any excess cap to a high-end wide receiver and another cog in the front-seven — two other drastic needs. With the Jets also reportedly in on Jones, odds are the 26-year-old at the very least opens 2021 as a workhorse among his own backfield. That would also likely entail Jamaal Williams re-upping with the Packers immediately.
