Between pic 4 and 5 I'd say there's a case for push in the back. McKenzie uses a "double action" in extending his arms to push Pav under the ball. Personally, I have noticed umpires not giving frees that do deserve to be paid just because the player plays for it too much. I have also noticed Pav exacerbating contact a bit, such that the free that is there is ignored because of his over emphasis. There was a case in the Adelaide game as well, where he got pulled off the ball by the collar and made a big show of it. Debatable whether the free was there in that case, but due to the way Pav carried on about it, the Umps were unlikely to pay it.
Yeah I agree with that statement. Some of them are frees but he goes over the top and then they don't get paid. Oh well I'm sure he'll be firing come 4 weeks time

Hmmm not very good at this and the AFL smart replay thing is pretty average to manipulate, but this was an example of what I was talking about. Maybe hard to see but pretty disappointing, and the Eagles took it up the length of the field and goaled.

thanks for putting that together, whether or not it is free kick either way it is hard to tell. nonetheless as one wise poster once said "one swallow doesn't make a dinner"

honestly i think all forwards and players do it to some extent but I wouldn't agree that pavlich does it more than others, i would say below average if anything. i do wish that all players wouldn't do it. It is like players calling for the video ref when they clearly haven't touched it then complaining afterwards about its use, most of them are hypocrites.

He's looking promising but PLEASE !!

>Don't get on the hype train we all saw what happened to Jack Watts. "This 19 year old will carry us to finals CHOO CHOO MOTHERF**KER!!"

We already have a great white hope - his name is Fyfe.

Anyone on top of that is just gravy ;)

Apeness becoming a best 22 contributor in a top four/top two side at 19 and 200cm tall is so unlikely that if it did happen we would need to start planning for him to become a star of the competition. It would have 300 games written all over it.

I'm not sure RTB considers him best 22, but if there was ever a time to experiment with playing an extra tall forward then the next few games are it.

Jezza Cameron did it so why not.

Yeah but now Cameron's body, confidence & form are suffering because of it. That's hard for a kid his age. God I hope Apeness turns out to be an absolute gun, and I reckon he could, but hopefully we manage him a bit better than Cameron's gotten.

One of the things Pav does better than anyone else I can think of in the competition is protect the fall of the ball in a marking contest with his substantial backside. Pav has already done a lot for the freo footy club but if I could ask him to do just one more thing it would be to pass this skill onto the Ape.

Nice point.

You wouldn't think it, but I think one of the best in our team at protecting the drop with his a*se is Sonny.

Never noticed he had a particularly big a*se, but the young fella knows how to use it.

I remember the case you mention. The free was definitely there, but Pav emphasised it a a bit too much... and I'd agree that the umps let it go because it was a bit too obvious.

Picks the ball in flight and outwits his opponent.

Really happy he's getting another game. Great to get a few games in his first year. Hopefully next year he can get 6-8 games into him. The team is in a good position and there is no reason to rush young players into the side. That is unless he starts bagging 4 goals a game.
I'd settle for one a game, and him getting the ball to ground at the contests he can get himself to. And a contested mark a game. The rest is gravy.

aside from not converting his set shot for a goal, the iPhone app achieved this on the weekend. With Pav in and drawing the key defender and 3rd man the iPhone app has a real chance to some serious damage this week, particularly against a weaker defense and what I'd expect to be some platinum service from our mids.

It was mentioned elsewhere but I'm very interested to see how long the boss keeps him in the team for. Is it too late in the season to make significant change to our lineup? I think not, especially in the fwd half where we should always be tinkering. Effectively Mayne can play as the marking mid size fwd that he is. Clarke against a 3rd def, it all sounds very appealing.

Given the Hawks had only a narrow win and are only two percentage points in front of us right now, we could conceivably be second on the ladder come Monday, assuming Port don't completely trounce Richmond.

If ever we need to get our forward line as potent as possible, it's now. Best of luck to our source of future Appiness, hope Ballaz, Mayne and Pav play blinders, hope Col and Morra get their groove on, and - Sonny please get better soon!
