I hope he can get through unscathed and put a few games together. Realistically he needs to stay on the park either at Peel or in the seniors for the rest of the season and show that he can impact at AFL level to remain on our list.

It's easy to forget he's only 23. Personally I like his physicality and I think he could still be a valuable addition to our forward line.

I believe in the Ape. Will be cooked by 3qtr time but his ruckwork has potential and he has good hands. Good on him for getting another go.

Apeness is a lock to play. The other players have been talking him up all week. I'm really excited for him. Saw him in the stands at a couple of the Peel pre-season games and felt for him. Tough gig coming in for Sandi but he's played against Zac Clarke and Jonathon Griffin the past two weeks and won the hit out count. The guy is talented, just needs a decent run at it, and our expectations tempered based on where he is at physically.

Think injuries have really crueled and stalled his development to the point where I am only just hopeful of him staying on the list as he is painfully slow and has the turning circle of the queen Mary. Unfortunately he is playing against the ruckman who could expose all of his deficiencies more than any other this week.......good luck Ape!

Him and Apeness feel like they are late 20s now, with everything they've been through. But you're right, Apeness is only 23 and Tabs 24. Imagine if they play together more often. Definitely bright future if they can.

Will Ape and Jones make up for the loss of Sandi..jury is out
You really need to ask that question.

Sandi has been a real trooper this season.

The only advantage we have now is the unknown - think back to Darcy’s debut vs Geelong last year. He should have got a rising star nomination for that game we nearly pinched.

I’m in the camp that this game could get nasty. Having both rucks means that be they can go hard for short bursts. We need to see what both (esp. Apeness) have to offer before Darcy is back up and running after the bye.

Totally agree .

We may get smacked but we will find a lot more about Apeness and Jones.

Either way, it will help us in terms of list management.

Only run into the players wearing black and white.
Geez I hope the coach remembers to tell him that!

Not a bad game for our two bigs to come in really. The Pies have a few outs which balances our outs to some extent, and especially for the forwards will be good. Also coming up against an in form Grundy is the type of challenge that you are always going to get at the top level. Worst case scenario you get a pretty good reading of where your own development is at.

Agree.

I want to see Apeness completing in the air and bringing the ball to ground, allowing retention in the forward 50.
