Mate, you're a regular ray of sunshine. Me, I'm happy just to see how he progresses recovering from a serious knee injury.

good luck to him.

but yet another example of our recruiters taking a punt with a first round pick on a player that other clubs didn't rate as highly.

Someone coming off an ACL that is late to AFL is always going to take awhile to come good. But equating that to "potential" is pure stupidity.

I agree - why would you take a risk on a 200cm 100kg key forward when there are lots of midfielders and flankers who will develop much quicker.

it was a speculative pick where we picked for position, not best available. It was a punt. Not a risk. He had just done his ACL and we had almost no information on him.

Just because you are 200cm and 100kg doesn't mean you aren't a spud. Apeness is very potato like and IMHO he will be delisted within 3 years. He'll get an extra year because the recruiters don't want to admit they had another punt that didn't pay off.

We the BF massive? Or We the Freo recruiting staff?

The former means nothing. The latter is a guess on your behalf.

In your opinion he is a spud.

I'd agree that it hasn't paid off yet, but that doesn't mean it was a bad punt. Sylvia was a bad punt, the jury is still out on Apeness. I remember sitting with some Eagles family members watching the biggest spud ever for a couple of years in Josh Kennedy - they hated him with a passion and thought they had been robbed blind by Carlton.

We can all sit here and bag out the selectors on the guesses that have (or may have) failed, but let's also acknowledge the ones they have got right. There were 19 picks before we took a punt on Nat Fyfe. There were 57 picks before we took a punt on a little bloke called Lachie Neale.

You can take a perfectly sound player and they still have the potential to suffer injuries. Did Carlton make a mistake picking Matthew Kreuzer at No 1? He turned out to be a huge spud and surely they could have foreseen all the injuries he would have.

Finals 4 years in a row, top 4 the last 3 years, minor premiers this year.

Instead of bagging out our selectors for "yet another example" of a punt that didn't pay off, let's congratulate them on selecting a squad which has elevated us from a laughing stock to a powerhouse in the competition.

Think you're going way too early thereo_O

the guy has already done his ACL and now had another serious knee injury.

On top of having little talent on display when he wasn't injured.

call me negative but i'm chalking up another first round pick wasted.

You are negative.

And a ****ing pain in the arse to be honest.

It's a football opinions forum, he's intitlled to his as much as you are, I like it that we don't all follow the Congo line. Anyway time will tell and he will be given time due to being a first round pick but he ain't shown much yet. :)

I agree with you rodney hoo, he hasn't shown much yet, I think partly due to injury and partly due to his age.

Saying that is a far cry from suggesting that he will not make it and that is only on the list because the recruiters don't want to admit that they took another bad punt. That is just nonsense.

the fun police have already shut down most of the contrary opinions on this board unfortunately

time will tell. I'm putting that opinion down in advance.

People are entitled to an opinion without twats like you having a meltdown

People are entitled to an opinion, but if your opinion follows a trend of constant criticism toward the club, negativity, and insulting players under the pretense of being a realist, then you are simply a pain in the arse.

For years I remember the mob up the road bagging Glass and he was a very early pick who eventually turned out ok. I personally liked what he showed in his first few games. We dont want another Ryan Murphy / Davis Antonowicz on our hands (ie he's an early pick so he's gonna b good, he's gonna be good cos he's an early pick) but I am sure we can cut him a little more slack

I hope he comes good. We need him to come good...

Must confess I was worried when we drafted him because of his previous ACL injury and non-football (rugby) background. But equally was happy enough when we drafted him because of his height and reputation as having held his own in a forward line that also included Tom Boyd.

The second knee injury is a concern. How many (especially tall) players manage to forge out a career with dicky knees? I can think of more Lee Walker, Clem Michael, JLo examples than I can of David Schwartz types. I spose Adam Goodes is a great example of a player showing longevity after having knee issues.

The jury's still out IMO.
