3AW just announced this. Any other verification?

http://www.3aw.com.au/blogs/3aw-generic-blog/michael-clarke-quits-twenty20/20110107-19i41.html

Michael Clarke has quit Twenty20 cricket, giving up the captaincy of Australia's shortest format side, in the aftermath of the Ashes humiliation.

Just as Ricky Ponting gave up Twenty20 after last year's Ashes loss to focus on his Test career, Clarke has followed due to his poor form in this series.

Clarke will now hold no full-time captaincy position, with Ponting expected to return from injury to lead the one-day and Tests teams.

Hopefully now he puts all his focus on his test spot.

T20's despite being alright to watch every now and then, is a complete waste of time. Good to see that he has realised this and hopefully we will see improvement from him in the baggy green.

perhaps not as stupid as he seems. modified his early game to only hit along the ground, now it counts him out of the 20/20.
i guess hussey is the man.

It's a good move. He's always struggled with the T20 format. But you could excuse that, on the grounds that he is "the future Australian captain". But if he can't hold his place in the Test team AND he is struggling in T20... then he is nothing.

Better to focus on one thing, and one thing alone.

This is a good move. Test players shouldn't play T20 and T20 players shouldn't play test cricket. This is why White should never play TEST cricket again. Same thing with the bowlers.

Good stuff. Rubbish T20 player. Not a bad captain though but White's an extremely capable replacement.

One can only hope the selectors were competent enough to identify how poor his performances in T20 had been and simply negotiated for him to stand down.

If the selectors weren't pushing him out behind the scenes then they really are deluded.

Good to see, was only playing (IMO) to serve some sort of a captaincy apprentiship, now he is our captain he can get out of that shitty form of cricket and concentrate both on getting his back right and scoring runs in the most important form of the game.

Did a good job captaincy wise in Twenty 20, but should never have been in the side from a batting point of view.

Obvious strategy by Clarke to show the Board and Selectors he will be focusing solely on the Test and 50 over Captaincy.
