He's in strife again at West Coast (you would have to think that he's blown his last chance), would we entertain getting him to Carlton.

Pros - Quality ruckman (when fit), something we deperatly need, would come cheap.
Cons - Would cost us a draft pick in the "superdraft", might be bad influence on the young players, might never get back to his best.

Thoughts????

I'd kill myself if we got another unsavoury character to the club. Haven't we been burnt enough with the likes of Angwin and Norman ???
Just not worth it.

Wouldn't touch him. But for some reason if we did not worth a draft pick, we would swap a ruck. But knowing johny boy he would have to show him the door.

I dont want this bloke in the same STATE as me, let alone play for the club i barrack for. He's an uncontrollable character who seemingly must have some sort of substance abuse problems as well as other things.

He is obviously unwilling to give up his party lifestyle and comit to football. Not fit to play for any club at AFL level.

Yeah lets get him in cause Gardener will make Fev his new drinking buddy! Then he may take Murphy under his wing and introduce him to some mobster friends and before you know it Murph will become a dealer (to supplement his income of course).

Then he may even introduce the CFC to his mob buddies who'll pay out our debt as long as we make CFC a front for whatever they please.

Then he may also teach some of our younger kids how to wrap their car around a tree, only if he has time of course.

This can all be good for the CFC!!!

ps: The above statements are me being sarcastic!

Plenty of footy to talk about guys......Why don't you discuss the wooden spoon...LOL

You know you're having a bad run when someone suggests trading for this bloke.

But if we could trade Hay for Gardiner, I'd think about it.

Typical West Coast supporter ... can't read, or write proper coherant sentences.

Lets not get too knee jerk here.

Guy can play, no doubt,
if he comes up for nix would certainly have a look.
Change of scenery and all that crap.

Bloke called Martin Pike had episodes with the bottle at various clubs and played in 4 premierships.

Lots of others have beaten the bottle and gone on and succeeded.

I am really, very surprisingly, torn on this one. I know I myself say 'No' to 80% of the trades proposed on football forums but this one I am not entirely convinced for some reason.

I would've said definitely no about 2 months ago but the thing that's holding me back is that we've seen him actually break back into the Eagles' line-up so he must have done something right. IF we can get him to change his habits being in a new city and all, it won't cost much to get him and when he gets right he will be very very good for us.

But it's a very big 'IF' though.

The sakes are huge this week for you guys and the bombers. Its now the Gibbs/Gardiner Cup!

1.
very interesting post, well done.
2.
initial thoughts are a big NO WAY however....
3.
the Pikey comparison was exactly what I was thinking.
4.
would need to come 'cheaply' a later round draft pick or, better, a swap for some of our underachievers [little chance]
5.
end of the day - do not think he will be at CFC but gee if he could knuckle down ???????????????????

Hey gorgeous!!! :D
Never thought I would hear you say that you want an eagles player especially Michael! :p

BUT in saying that, IF Michael was lucky enough to have another opportunity to revive his AFL career, I think he would turn things around (or I hope he would). He has lost everything now and has totally hit rock bottom and sometimes you need to do that before you can start the steep climb back up.

I think he would fit in well with the blues and would provide some form of experience, stability (yeh sounds funny aye) & structure to your midfield.

One thing is for sure, he will not be playing at the Eagles next season. When you have sidea running around with no ruckmen or a lack of surely he will be given a go. 3 sides you come to mind are Carlton, St Kilda and the Magpies who require a ruckman, IMO.

Carltons last premiership.... 1995
Eagles last premiership... 1994

I to would have my reservations on Michael Gardnier's influence on our young list but we do need a quality ruckman.

If we could get him in the PSD it maybe worth a thought.

I would have written into his contract one indiscretion & your out.

If we get him, the S has honestly hit the fan!

All it would take is for him to just influence one of our youngsters into something unsavoury and there goes not only Gardener but that youngster as well.

Angwin was a lesson, once bitten twice shy!

You could contract him sure to not do anything.. but you'd have to most likely isolate him initially from the main group and that does not work well for our team that needs to bond and trust one another.

There would be no trust I would think initially from the inner sanctum towards him and that could just cause issues, kinda like how Mick Mcguane wasn't truly embraced (but Mcguane wasn't as much a cretin as Gardener).
