Very unexpected news and sad - it feels to me like an end of an era for Australian music. He was a huge figure for so long, from when he was still in his early twenties. RIP.

If the music industry wasn't dead already, it is now. This tragic loss has also switched off the life support system. The very heart and soul of Australian music, he knew in the 1990s if the music industry really wants to save itself, it could start by doing away with all the bullshit. Now it's 2021 and what industry do we have left? Eccentricity, perseverance, entrepreneurial skills, fly by the seat of your pants attitude and always think "Yes" until someone says "NO" negotiator. The suits hated him, certainly the ones based in Sydney, but he got the job done. Started as a teenager, Mushroom almost fell over before it was ever able to stand, he was mighty lucky Skyhooks came along and saved the day, not bad for a bloke who was not interested in his HSC and sold watermelons at Sunbury 72! The biggest loss in Australian music.
