Michael Jackson - Dead

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Probably the greatest entertainer that mankind has ever witnessed.

I can't remember a death as big as this in a long time. You would probably have to go back to Princess Di. As far as the music industry goes, this overshadows Cobain and you would probably have to go back to Lennon in 1980.
Just no, as has been mentioned Tupacs death was bigger, Kurt Cobains death was bigger from a musical point of view as they were still releasing good quality music and were known for it, not for being a circus freakshow.
I for one am really over hearing about it, yeah he died, lets get over it know, he made some good music 20 odd years ago, their is more important things happening in the world

Haha.

I was kind of living with three metalhead stoners when Dimebag died. Was huge. Death in the family is an understatement, as, even when I've actually had family members die, the outpouring of grief and mourning I noticed/experienced doesn't even come close to matching that of a bunch of grown men off their faces bawling their eyes out to Cemetery Gates on repeat.

:D:(

:D

I take it they cranked this song up repeatedly when it was first released then?

To anyone that doesn't believe hiphop lyricism requires talent:

I challenge you to name any of its aspects.

If you can't name any of its aspects, yet believe it doesn't require talent, then that is complete ignorance in its purest form.

Anyway, back to the topic.

If you had to choose between MJ solo or MJ in the Jackson 5, which would you prefer to listen to?

MJs early solo disco stuff without a doubt. Rock With You in particular...best disco track ever in my opinion.

for those who care they can go to the hip hop thread and listen to a guy talking over a Coldplay song.

BTW, Lennon would never have released anything remotely as shit as the following:

Scream
Remember the Time
Black or White
You are Not Alone
You Rock My World

Jesus, there was true shite in his catalogue, I'd say he released more shit than good quite comfortably. I love the revisionist look at it all though, deluded!

He was a pop star. It would be like Rihanna dying (except Rihanna is hot and not a pedo so thqat would actually be worse).
Except Rihanna is overrated. Looks and talent.

She is truly irrelevant.

Tupac was a muppet and a perpetrator who aint fit to lick MJ's shiny shoes.

Kurt Cobain.....HMPH

Kurt Cobain was flavour of the month for 5 minutes whose musical legacy is grossly overrated, even though I am a fan of his work.

Michael Jackson has been a superstar for 40 years. You tell me if Tupac or Kurt Cobain could sell out 50 gigs in a matter of minutes, and could have sold out another 50?

MJ, like Elvis and The Beatles, transcended the music itself. Whether you like him, or his music, or not, he is in the absolute top handful of performers who have graced the stage.

It is an insult to his legacy as an entertainer to even mention Tupac or Kurt Cobain in the same sentence.

I'm laughing at all these Hip Hop fans coming in here and dissing MJ's ability as a lyricist.

Let me tell you, if you don't think that Michael Jackson had an influence on Hip Hop as we know it you know nothing about music.

i have been changed on what constitutes hit music

i have no interest in the top 40, i believe everything they show on channel v is mass produced (ie sterile)

michael jackson lost relevance to me when i got into music by nirvana, r.e.m. in the 90s

michael jackson was the last of the stars to take advantage of a different society back then. nothing that comes out in today's society can make people feel awestruck anymore

it doesnt matter if youre justin timberlake (i like my indie music, but he does make an occassional good tune) , rihanna or even miley cyrus.

for those who get the stardom, enjoy it, but i choose something else

all the popular kids in high school liked rock and you only had your hip hop beats and continious rhymes to get you through being alone?

Actually Hiphop was far more popular when I was growing up, but I listened to everything. There is good and bad in most genres.

then you prove your worth of music knowledge by coming on here and comparion MJ's death to Tupacs :o

you have your own thread to discuss your shite genre that is hip hop.

and it is shite and i know me saying that will tear you up inside.is that link the best of hip hop you got? that was embarassing.:)

You're really ignorant and have no taste, that's all. Doesn't bother me, I was just trying to help you out.

Have a listen without negative thoughts first up.

i understand theres talent to deliver words quiclky..

but you are saying Hip Hop artists are talented writers, and writing lyrics that just rhyme and rhyme and rhyme after rhyme is not a talent.

Seeing as you're claiming you listened to the lyrics, please give me a summary of what you thought that song was about?

And if lyrics are important to you, why would you like Michael Jackson? He didn't make a lyrically impressive song throughout his entire career.

why are you still talking to me?

i own over 500 shit cds (no Michael Jackson)

im only going to discuss it more with Crazy Q.

Thanks for proving my point.

No understanding at all of what a multi-syllabic rhyme is, internal rhyming, punchline rhyming, wordplay etc.

You have a crystal clear refusal to even be willing to learn what rhyming in hiphop entails, and yet you rubbish the genre. Please tell me how that is not ignorance?

I don't like AC/DC's music, but at least I had a willingness to understand why they have the place in music that they do.

Just because you don't like how music sounds doesn't mean you can't respect it. Agree or disagree?

I'm all for you criticising the genre if you actually knew about these things, because at least your opinion could then be respected.

Not sure if you think I'm one of these people so just want to point out that I am just defending hiphop lyricism. It is a completely different form of lyricism than that in the singing genres. Wasn't comparing hiphop lyricism to MJ at all. Songwriting with singing is very different as you have less words to say within a verse/bar, so the ability to convey a message with lesser words is paramount and as you know there are many techniques to do this.

For what it's worth, a HUGE amount of hiphop, particularly production-wise, has been directly influenced by Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 and James Brown. Not to mention the countless references paying tributes to the Jacksons throughout hiphop history.

edit: and there's a reason mj was inducted into the song-writer's hall of fame twice.

Exactly, it isn't like just because someone likes Hiphop they hate everything else. I like some MJ stuff for what it is, pop music (some of it very danceable)

No doubt, MJ had a massive influence on Hiphop.

wrote their own lyrics, wrote their own music, Angus Young one of the better guitar players in the world, second highest selling album of all time.

but very nice of you to stick up for them....
