Michael Jackson - Dead

^I can't help I don't like the sound of AC/DC's music.

I do however know what they have accomplished, know their influence in rock history, and know their continued impact to this day. I've read about it because I wanted to know why they are as big as they are in australia to this day.

The sarcasm in your post against me makes me think that you don't believe I can respect AC/DC, simply because I don't like how their music sounds. Why else would you post about young and the albums selling point?

Please answer this question.

If you don't like how a particular music sounds, can you still have respect for it?

I ask because I certainly do, and there are others like me, where as I don't believe you can. To me, this makes your opinion hard to respect as you speak about delivery, but still haven't touched on lyricism in hiphop. If someone doesn't like a genre, that's cool, so long as you know about the genre. People speaking about things they don't now is basically worthless (like a bloke who's only into NRL rubbishing AFL, as opposed to a lifelong AFL fan who criticises today's game).

it was sarcastic because your making out like acknowledging ACDC's place as one of the great music bands in the world means your opinion is above everyone else, well join the queue of a million people who think the same, and i bet some hate hip hop and dont care about it as well.

If you don't like how a particular music sounds, can you still have respect for it?

of course and i respect talent in other genres but a lot of hip hop doesn't impress me.its got nothing i can connect to and nothing that makes me go wow that sounds awesome.

and you can go on all you like about different lyrics and rhymes but like statistics in football i ignore and reserve my opinions to what i see and with music i go on what i hear.

i give you credit for trying to make an actual arguement out of this unlike Karl_Simpleton but best to aim your energies else where as my opinion is not going to sway.

This is textbook ignorance. You haven't heard all Hiphop, and by your own comments rate lyrical ability as a determining factor, yet refuse to admit that Hiphop is lyrically superior even when confronted with the evidence.

You're ignorant. Furthermore, you're proud of it.

and you have called Michael Jackson overated and i bet you have not heard all of his songs.

nice ignorance yourself :o

and you have not heard every single hip hop song ever made so you don't deserve an opinion on that.

ignorance again lol

nice one Karl :o

FAIL.

I don't make blanket claims that ALL Hiphop is good, I just say some of it is good.

You make a blanket claim that it is ALL bad.

There is a big difference. I would have thought even YOU could have worked that out, but apparently your idiocy knows no bounds.

my opinion obviously means something to you.

This 9 special is pretty lame..........Richard Wilkins said it would be "mimimal talk, maximum music". Yeah right...........play the full songs and keep it at that!

Can I just say Leila McKinnon is really annoying........

hahaha that attempted moonwalk was quite possibly the worst attempt I have ever seen. Too much talk, not enough of the music.

40 minutes in and they finally show Thriller.

rage had the right idea this morning - play clips for about 2 hours. What is wrong with that?

Went out tonight and the tv's (I presume foxtel) were playing an MJ concert during prime time.

I only have free to air and couldn't hear what these tv's were showing, so for anyone that saw this concert tonight, can anyone please tell me which of his 3847297348927942 concerts it was? (ie year and city please)

Oh and crownie, Karl and PK absolutely destroyed your argument.

I can't say anything more.

of course you can't say anything more, PK was the only one who gave a half insightful piece on why it takes talent to write hip hop lyrics and is the only one who knows what his talking about on the subject.

Just watching the VH1 top 30 MJ songs. Forgot just how many classics he had and its only at #9. Not to mention the best music videos ever made.

never a huge fan of his, but how could some of you compare him with cobain and tupac?

You can't beat performance like this:

For crownie: I might have to give you the benefit of the doubt in that you've tried to give hiphop a go in the past but couldn't enjoy it, and so now your opinion, as you said, cannot be swayed. I will give an example of great lyricism though, with lyrics that people in Australia can relate to as well (Australians that are at or below the 'poverty' line), rather than just African-Americans.

I feel like I'm walking a tight rope, without a circus net
I'm popping percocets, I'm a nervous wreck
I deserve respect; but I work a sweat for this worthless check
Bout to burst this tech, at somebody to reverse this debt
Minimum wage got my adrenaline caged
Full of venom and rage
Especially when I'm engaged
And my daughter's down to her last diaper
That's got my ass hyper
I pray that god answers, maybe I'll ask nicer
Watching ballers while they flossing in their pathfinders
These overnight stars becoming autograph signers
We all long to blow up and leave the past behind us
Along with the small fry's and average half pinters
While player haters turn bitch like they have vaginas
Cause we see them dollar signs and let the cash blind us
Money will brainwash you and leave your ass mindless
Snakes slither in the grass spineless

[Chorus (x2):]
That's Rock Bottom
When this life makes you mad enough to kill
That's Rock Bottom
When you want something bad enough to steal
That's Rock Bottom
When you feel you have had it up to here
Cause you mad enough to scream but you sad enough to tear

Every two lines is what is known as a 'bar'. The absolute basic rhyming would involve one syllable at the end of each line rhyming. So you'd have the last sentence of sentence 1 and 2 rhyming, then the last syllable of 3 and 4 rhyming etc. Here, multiple syllables rhyme at the end of the sentences, and not only that, continue for more than two sentence. Furthermore, there is internal rhyming, ie rhyming within the sentences as well, that rhyme with the middle of the next sentence or the end of the same one. Then you've got song-writing ability - ie the ability to convey a strong message but saying little, eg "I pray that God answers, maybe I'll ask nicer" - to me that expresses the emotion of the song very well. Then the verse ends with a pretty strong metaphore.

The last line of the chorus is also great song-writing because not only does the rapper articulate his feelings on the topic well, but it uses contrasting adjectives to sum up the same situation, eg mad and sad.

Now obviously, listening to this is 100x better than just reading it where you can't hear the emotion nor vocal delivery (which u said is a talent). Couple these things with the writing and you might start to get an idea why a lot of people love hiphop writing, because let's face it, it's easier to flow words than it is to sing them, and so to gain credibility/longevity within hiphop, rappers need to be able to write well otherwise they're dismissed as a joke. Unlike some singers that can get writers to pen songs for them so long as they have a strong vocal ability to deliver the words.

(yes i feel like a douche for writing all of this within MJ's thread).

Macca19: Awesome, it's from the Dangerous world tour then. Tomorrow on free-to-air or foxtel at 430?

The majority of concerts I've seen of his are from the HIStory world tour.

Even though he has great music videos, I find with any artist (not just mj), that I enjoy watching their concerts more than the music videos. I can watch concerts over and over and over and over again with ease.

I'm sure many MJ fans in here have seen the 2001 30th anniversary concert. That was an amazing concert, and him pairing up with his brothers was fuggin fantastic. I reckon MJ, dancing-wise, was at his peak during his world tours, particularly the HIStory tour in 96/97. In 2001, whilst still being able to pull off all his moves with class, for those who know dancing with a lot of detail, he looked a tad slower, which to the general public isn't really that noticeable. My thoughts on this year's tours were written in the other MJ thread from last month, in that I was doubting he'd be able to dance as well as he used to, which is one of the main reasons people come to watch him perform. I reckon MJ would've been feeling stressed as **** about this coz think about it. 50 concerts = ridiculous amounts of cash involved, with fat cats in suits and millions of fans expecting you to deliver. If you're struggling with the fitness requirements due to age, there is no easy way to get out of it. Personally, if I were him, I would've still danced but toned it down, and focused more on the singing. If he were to do that though, there would be nuff nuff's out there that'd get disappointed. Some of his fans were so blinded so as not to see that there was the potential for him to lose the spring in his dance step - he is a human....
