He was awesome to watch, I remember staying to home to watch the finals that year when he was sick but still played and helped the Bulls win the game.

One of the best players ever.

He aint one of the best ever, he is THE best ever.

i never saw russell, west, chamberlain or mikan play.

and kobe, lebron, durant havent finished. so i cant make a judgement yet

Who would you take, Dirk or Amare?

well amare is stinking it up in NYC. And primetime wants the team disbanded and the coach sacked.

What about Greg Oden or Kevin Durant? Who would you have taken 1st?

It's well documented that I thought Portland were crazy for not taking Durant.

a few of us here were all pro KD @ no 1. however, some disagreed, which is fair enough. i think those who were pro GO were like "portland already have Roy and they wont be able to play together".

at least here we can have a mature discussion/debate.

7 years since he graced the NBA courts, and 12 years since his final game with the Chicago Bulls.

Share you favorite Michael moments

My favorite memory would be 'The Last Shot' against Utah. The pose after release.

Loved the man since the season he broke/hurt his ankle (2nd/3rd season I think) when he came back and dropped in 63 against the Celtics.

Bird quote 1 - "God was out there on the court tonight in disguise as Michael Jordan".

Bord quote 2 - "If he is the future of basketball... I am glad to be retiring".

Other moments...

- mid-air hand swap layup in finals v Lakers
- 1st half 3 point shooting display in finals v Blazers
- dunk from the foul line

But best was seeing him play live when he was in Washington... yep he was "past it" but knocked in a casual 20 points and I will always remember seeing The GREATEST in real life.:thumbsu:

Add to that every time the NBA changed a rule that was designed for Jordan to succeed making him the first NBA superstar that the league had to change rules to benefit the star rather than to try and stop like they had in the past (Chamberlain, Russell, etc, etc.).

Greatest ever? Perhaps to the media and those who really have no idea about the game of basketball.

You want the greatest ever? Go watch some Bill Russell. Let the rings do the talking.

Oh please. When did the NBA change a rule to stop Russell? Is he even the greatest Centre to have played the game or even the greatest Celtic to have played the game?

And 11 rings don't mean shit if you are playing against the same team in the finals all the time.

No, just the way the league was back then. Much harder to win a championship in Jordan's time.

WTF?????? How do you explain that?

I'll agree with it.

1996 was the year of the Magic but couldn't go with the Bulls. They were a true superteam.

Then Shaq left and we've been climbing back slowly.

Tell that to the teams who have been beaten by the Lakers the past 3 years in the West.

Russell won 11 rings in 8-12 team leagues. Jordan won 6 rings in a 29 team league. Simple numbers game.

Except it's not so simple.

You're assuming that every team in a 29 team league had an equal opportunity to win a title.

Couldn't be further from the truth.

I have lost sight of the argument though and given I have seen very little of Russell, I can't debate it a great deal.
