Newton is defintely worth leaving in the seniors. Melbourne in the past have dropped our kids too early (dunn, c. johnson etc etc) and wonder why they dont develop as quickly as they should. The same players who we used to slaughter against the hawks absolutely blew us out of the water today, cuz clarkson had the balls to continue to play them.

I agree Newton is trash, he is the softest player i have seen in a long time he is very reactive once someone else gets the ball then i will tackle instead of getting the ball in the first place.

To many times i saw him move away from a contest when he should have had a dip!

Fairly hard to judge the season off one game.

I think we just need to give it time. Not that we are going to make finals or anything, but to see how we play with this gameplan

there was a contest in the middle of the ground where he was leading for the chase of the ball, a Hawthorn player was coming front on, rather than put his body on the line he tried to anticipate which way the Hawks player might go (while Newton was still closer to the ball) and made a meal of it.

A few times he seemed to shirk contests. I know we need to give them time to develop, but if players arent putting their head over the ball/body on the line, or making an opposition player earn their possesions they should be dropped.

He wasn't the only player to do this on Sunday, but that one above really stuck out.

Good point, too many kids are playing too much footy in Sandy. Get them up into the seniors. C Johnson, is a nice mover and kick on the run. We don't have many of his sort.

Newton = very slow.
Along with 3/4 of the rest of the team.

Newton has good balance and size and will develop into quite a dangerous player if we use him right.

He may have pace but when he takes the next step (from Sandy to AFL) he struggles with the pace of the game and as a result his skills are very ordinary and his decision making is even worse.

If anyone can remember the round 1 game last year against St. Kilda is a prime example he fumbled the ball a lot and when he did have clean possession he turned it over.

Yep I agree re Garland CFH - he definitely will be a good player - looks like a taller slender Whelan IMO

Haha, I respect Melbourne as most of my family barracks for them.
I respect the fans liek you guys who get down to the games.

However this man is a fool.

The rose coloured glasses are one thign that seems to be constant with MFC supporters.

That was not the mark that won mark of the year.

He took it against North Melbourne not Carlton.

Gee, one game. Whose to say after 10 games, his confidence and decision making wouldn't have improved 10 folds. It is this kind of backward thinking that has been apart of the club since daniher reign. No wonder our kids fizzle out and die while the rest of the competition seem to have no trouble developing talent.

You can't rib the young blokes when the "leaders" of the team are playing like shit and don't seem to care.

:thumbsu:

Newton looked good when he was one out with his opponent. He was ripped of a mark and goal. But the ball took so bloody long to get down to the forwards, it was ridiculous and when it did come in, it was like ****ing lollypop. **** me.

As for Neitz, he just took up space in the forward line. He showed nothing for someone who has played 302 games. He didn't even hit the packs hard and his kicking seems to be way off.

And Robbo. Might not as well as been their.

We lacked good crumbers, nobody who could even take a clean mark.

We could put carroll down forward, he always seems to be miles from his opponent

He mades for a very dangerous 2-3rd target, but he will never be the lynchpin of attack, thats not to be bad-mouthing him, hes a terrific mark.

And i cant believe your all laying shit on neitz, bad game yes, but he kept on trying to make stuff happen, like running down players, trying to shirt-front dew. Neitz is not the man you should be blaming, bas game-yes, but he still tried to make things happen, rather then "Give up"

Yeah perhaps he could trade positions with Neitz, cause he always seems to have his opponent right next to him all the time. :p

I was not judging him on one game, i rathered used that st kilda game as an example. if by some miracle johno did play 10 games there is no way his decision making could improve that much he would have to play 50 players games for that to happen. Frankly he is not good enough to warrant selection.
