Re: 36 Michael Pettigrew

Heard along the grape vine at training today here in the West that Petters has been plagued with hamstring tendonitis this season.

Could go a long way to explaining his performances this season.

Re: 36 Michael Pettigrew

He's been on our injury list the last couple of weeks with it and hasn't played footy of any sort for 4 weeks.

Yeah, more along the lines that it's been going on for most of the season Forza..

Re: 36 Michael Pettigrew

Yeah, i should've added that it's probably got to the point where he can't play with it (hence him not playing any footy) as you said he's probably had it most of the season.

so why was he playing at all???

Injury management of this team is another example of our poor year and the lack of direction ... Kane and Sal both had shoulder injuries and came back too early. Kane survived but it has dented Sal's confidence to the point he is out!

Re: #36 Michael Pettigrew

makes two for the season, Shaun also earlier in the year with hammie tendonitous, not an injury I had heard about untill now, hopefuly just the new fitness regeme to make us quicker and increasing power while adding strengthto our bodies and cores!

Re: #36 Michael Pettigrew

Will Grew be on our list next year? Played in the SANFL last week.

Re: #36 Michael Pettigrew

I'd completely forgotten about Pettigrew.

Where will he fit in next year? He's definitely better suied up forward than in defence but its hard to see him fitting in anywhere ahead of the talls we already have in Westhoff, Schulz, Trengove, Carlile, Chaplin, both Stewarts and now Redden and Webb coming through.

Re: #36 Michael Pettigrew

Pettigrew has had a horror 2 years with injury. A full pre-season under his belt and he'll be a valuable addition to our 22. No idea on how primus plans to use him, my gut feeling is that he'll be used as a switch player the same way the Eagles used Hunter.

Let's hope so. I think Grew has plenty to offer as a forward. I think he's potentially a hard match-up because he plays tall, has a good grab and is also mobile with the ability to run and carry.

I rate him but not in the Choco era where he was cast as a defender or nothing.

Notes:
Michael had a better year in 2011 than he did in 2010, but still struggled to cement himself in the lineup whilst erratic form continued to plague his game.

He came into the side in Round 4 for the Showdown and played one of the best games of his career in shutting down Taylor Walker. He continued that form and made the best players against both Hawthorn in Round 7 and Sydney in Round 8, but struggled after that. His ability to keep up with his opponent and to gain good position to win the contest comes under regular scrutiny, whilst he is also prone to the clanger that gives up goals.

His SANFL form throughout the year was solid, but its doubtful whether he has done enough to keep himself on the list beyond the end of the season.

Good luck to him. Still don't think we got the most out of his unique skillset.

Not many 191cm players have the speed, athleticism, strong hands and goalsense he has.

Its an old thread I know... But was thinking about Pettigrew and what ever happened to him.

Its a shame Pettigrew was on our list when he was, because there is no doubt we didnt see the best of him, and one has to think if he was still at the club would the current set up of fitness and coaching staff get the best of him. I say yes. We saw plenty of glimpses what he could do as a player, and under Hinkley and Burgo I think he would have excelled.

He played with West Perth last year, couldnt see him on their list for this season, so maybe finally injuries got the better of him and has retired for good?

A much maligned player. Had a lot of heart and very versatile but unfortunately just wasn't good enough at AFL level (and somehow managed 100 games). Agree with you though, you have to wonder how he would've gone in a finals quality team with better support and structure around him.

The grew played some good footy in his early days, but he hardly fired a shot after the 2007 gf debacle, and was a regular safe avenue to goal for opposition teams, particularly when they could isolate him one out, or apply frontal pressure, which regularly resulted in him coughing up the ball.

It could be fairly strongly argued the club ( coach ) didn't follow due dilligence in their handling of the aftermath of that particular game.

Choco's comment in mid 2009 ` that some players were ` still carrying some baggage ' was unfortunately 18 months too late.
