Re: Michael Rischitelli

He's in almost career best form, but my tip at the moment would be Patfull for the best and fairest. He does his job EVERY week. But this thread is supposed to be about Rischitelli.

He'd have to be one of the very few positives to come out of the last 4-6 week slump imo.

Rischitelli hoping to re-sign with Lions
Article from:

THE shining light from Brisbane's poor past month has been the form of Michael Rischitelli and the midfielder has revealed he wants to remain a Lion.
Rischitelli's ability around the stoppages will be a key factor against the Bulldogs at the Gabba tomorrow night and the club now feels it has found a long-term replacement for in-and-under specialist Simon Black.

Rischitelli was the subject of a massive play from Essendon when he last came out of contract in 2006 but saw a bright future in Brisbane and chose to re-commit.

After taking his game to a new level this year, there are Melbourne-based clubs circling again but Rischitelli says he wants to remain a Lion and is confident a new deal will be struck soon.

"Yeah, I want to be, the Lions have been great to me," he said.

"We are in the process of it now (negotiations), there's promising signs."

Brisbane has battled in the midfield in the second half of the season, but Rischitelli has been a revelation.

Finally the club has found someone who can consistently cash in on the fact veteran co-captains Black and Luke Power wear heavy tags each time they go on to the field.

Rischitelli has polled well in the Lions' best and fairest, the Merrett-Murray medal, over the past month.

Last week against Hawthorn he was exceptional around the stoppages where he produced 10 clearances, a number that puts him among the very best clearance players in the competition.

Michael Rischitelli, who shared the points in his duel with Jason Akermanis, stayed where angels fear to tread when he stood strongly under an awkward kick and was cleaned up by Nathan Eagleton in the final term. His courage stopped the Bulldogs from streaming forward.

Brown impasse has domino effect
JAKE NIALL
26/08/2008 12:00:27 AM

BRISBANE'S contract negotiations with promising young midfielder Michael Rischitelli have been delayed by the impasse between the Lions and their uncontracted champion Jonathan Brown.
While Brown is expected to announce his future plans shortly, Rischitelli is among the out-of-contract Lions whose contractual situation is said to hinge on what happens with Brown.
Rischitelli's manager, Rick Olarenshaw, confirmed last night that Melbourne clubs had made inquiries about his client, but that his preference was to stick with the Lions, given "a fair and reasonable contract".
"We're had inquiries into Rischitelli, I'll say that, from Melbourne-based clubs to see what he's going to do now that his contract expires. We've had inquiries and that's it, and that's just clubs doing their due diligence.
"I've started talking figures with Brisbane, but we really can't really lock anything away, I don't think, until Brown's done.
"His priority is to stay at Brisbane on a fair and reasonable contract."
As a young player originally from Keilor, Rischitelli has attracted interest from Essendon, which made a play for him two years ago when he was last out of contract. But Carlton, Collingwood and Hawthorn would be the other potential suitors if he decides to seek a trade back to Melbourne.
Rischitelli's contractual situation has attracted much less attention than several others due to his lower profile — despite his continued good performances. While, at 22, and with a solid apprenticeship behind him, he fits the profile of several clubs, his scenario has been overshadowed by Brown's impasse and the uncertainty surrounding West Coast's Daniel Kerr, whose situation, like Brown's, will be resolved at the end of the season.

Bombers make a move for Rischitelli
By Tony Sheahan
August 31, 2008

ESSENDON is believed to be making a major play for out-of-contract Brisbane player Michael Rischitelli. It is believed the Bombers are prepared to offer the Victorian a two-year $380,000-a-year contract to move home - far more than the Lions are willing to pay.
Essendon's head of recruiting Adrian Dodoro said he had no comment on the issue when contacted on Friday but speculation surrounds Andrew Lovett being involved in a complicated trade.
Rischitelli has been outstanding for the Lions in the second half of the year after cementing a senior spot last season.
An inside player, Rischitelli prides himself on his toughness and provides the Lions with much-needed steel.

Lovely! - that's as handy as an arse pocket on a singlet - just what we need

Re: Michael Rischitelli

quite a bit of talk about him over in the essendon threads
although i havnt seen much of him, and probably dont rate him as high as he should, i would be happy if we took him off your hands for you..

what would you guys be expecting in return if he were to come down south?

THE Brisbane Lions have re-signed Albert Proud and secured in-principle agreements from Michael Rischitelli, Justin Sherman and Joel Patfull.

Rick Olarenshaw, who looks after Rischitelli and Sherman, confirmed both his players had accepted new deals from the Lions.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

If Matthews was still there next year he probably would have moved back down south.

I can categorically confirm that that is bullshit. Rischitelli is loyal as a german shephard. All he needed was a fair deal and he was always going to stay.

I can tell you it is 100% true. Good mates with his girlfriend.

The chance to play under Michael Voss was too good an opportunity for him to resist.

Absolutely no reason for me to make it up.

2007 Review
Quigley's 2008 Review

2008 End of Season Review

Rischitelli is a player who is spoken of highly but whose performance hasn’t really matched his reputation. There is almost a sense of anticipation for him to burst onto the scene but his progression has been fairly gradual.

He started off slowly again this year and he would have been close to being dropped. They tried him in the backline for a couple of games without much success, but when he moved back in the middle he played a bit better.

Compared to last year he was getting his hands on the ball more but his kicking was still a problem. His ineffective kicks are often not just not to advantage but straight to the opposition who would then really hurt you on the rebound.

In round 18 Rischitelli had a career best game against North racking up 30 disposals and 10 clearances. It is the type of performance that whets the appetite, but also makes you wonder why he can’t do that more often. After that he trailed off a bit but still finished the year fairly strongly.

In the end Rischitelli had a good year. He played 21 games and his end of season form was fairly encouraging. He was one of the few players who did actually take steps forward and he overtook a fair few in the pecking order, finishing 6th in the best and fairest.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

One thing i really admired about Rischa this year, is that when he had the footy in a hotly contested situation, he didn't screw around with it or try and find the impossible option, he just booted the thing as quickly as he could towards our goal. This year we had a lot of players who always tried to find the perfect option in a tightly contested situation, and none have the skills to do so yet, apart from maybe Black who does it week in week out. Rischa just kicked it to advantage, something alot of the others didn't catch on to.

Nowhere near as pretty as Simon Black bursting clear of the pack and drilling a flat lace out pass onto Brown's chest, but when we are struglling to win clearances at all, I'll happily take a hail-mary kick off Riska's boot. He's certainly got that desperate kick in traffic down to a fine art.

A fair assessment. One of the few to put his hand up in almost all circumstances. He can be forgiven a lot when he is one of the few to consistently have a red hot go, regardless. Maybe his finishing will improve when he gets a bit more support and he has a little more time.

I think a number of those hail maries could be attributed to our overall poor clearance team-work. Our mids, Black aside, are so far behind the best clearance teams in terms of playing in front and getting quick clearing handballs to guys who have made space.

We tended to be overly defensive which meant when we won the ball, there was fewer attacking options.

I think when we get our team work at stoppages going, blokes like Riska will be able to find better options in traffic instead of just bombing it.

Brown tipped Jared Brennan and Michael Rischitelli as two Lions headed for big seasons based on their pre-season training.

"They had pretty big second halves of the year in games when we struggled and I'd expect them to have really exciting and consistent years," he said.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I was really impressed with Riska's game against the Eagles, but it is one that has quietly slipped under the radar.

19 Disposals @ 84% efficeny
4 Marks
7 tackles
3 Clearances
1 Goal

The big one that stands out is the 84% efficency which is miles up from last year. Hope that he can back those figures up throughout the year especially with players like Black, Proud and Brennan (hopefully very soon) back in the team.

If he can maintain the efficiency and defensive pressure he really will become a very important player for us.

Those stats are even more impressive when you consider how Rischa also shut the dangerous Wirrpanda out of the game in that second half.

7 tackles is fantastic by any player and probably why he helped kill Wirra in the 2nd half last week.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I didnt see it myself, but can anyone confrim whether it was Riska that but the bump (legally) on Kerr in the second qtr.

Read it on the West Coast board, seemed like a bit of a game breaking moment.
