Re: Michael Rischitelli

i agree, sometimes its not all because of a player playing badly, can be because a few others are playing better than the previous week. is one of our better tacklers, so should be in for a good one this week vs north. should get atleast 6 tackles for my liking i think

Re: Michael Rischitelli

I think as the younger guys start to step up, they're gonna get more attention.

With a (nearly) full strength team, the boys should know they have to put in their all to keep their place. So if Riska was slacking off, not tackling or shepherding, then I'd definitely think we've got other guys who can do it better. If he has a quiet game, and some clangers that don't effect the outcome, or his confidence, then I don't see the problem.

In the past, these young guys have been given big responsibilities in past seasons and have shown, albeit pretty inconsistently, that they can do what's required. If our four senior mids keep going like they are, the other boys just have to take their opportunities when they get them. Jed did it this week, Riska the week before, Corrie and Brennan have this year as well. That leaves Sherman and Selwood still to have a break out game.

So as long as they always do the basic team stuff, I reckon the big stats that have come in patches for these guys are all bonuses and I expect there'll be more to come from them in the future.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Back to his potential best with gutsy tackling and cleaner disposal.

Should be back on track now.

I think Rischitelli is great defensively, but he still turns the ball over too often IMO. Don't mind his long kicking but he seems to gift the opposition a lot of intercepts when he tries to finesse the short ones.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Rischi has been on track over the last 5 weeks, his tackling is brilliant and he is back to hunting the footy and winning his own ball, his balance has impressed me and is keeping his feet alot more lately allowing him to stay in the contest and win it. I think if he keeps working on his overhead marking then this could become a weapon for him. He does float his long kicks and will need to always try to improve in this area. Great work Rischi

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Leigh said that Riska had a knock to the hip, and seeing that he almost played this week should be right next week.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Negotiations over new deals for Michael Rischitelli, 22, and Justin Sherman, 21, have been put on hold and are unlikely to resume until the end of the season.

Rischitelli is highly regarded for his tough inside game and was the subject of a strong play from Essendon two years ago. He hails from Keilor, which was once a part of Essendon's local recruiting zone and the Dons are still keen on him as St Kilda and Richmond are said to be.

Jonathan Healy

HAT A GOAL: Michael Rischitelli's effort in the third term was hard to top. Rischitelli won the centre clearance, kicked it forward, gathered the ball himself, handballed to a team-mate who fumbled, then found the ball once again, before dribbling through a kick from 35m out that should have been touched by an Essendon player. Rischitelli was the only player to have a possession in the passage of play and his efforts gave the Lions their first lead of the night.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Hes probably BOG at the moment ...

hope he keeps this up ... will be a star for the lions in the future

Re: Michael Rischitelli

He ended up with 30 disposals, but most impressive would be the 10 clearances (2nd highest was Black and Sherman with 4).

Re: Michael Rischitelli

i cant believe people have been citing Rischitelli as a reason for our form decline lately.
IMO he has been one of the shining lights this season as far as our young-mid players go.

Many of his clearances are of the "grab the ball in traffic and jam it on the boot" style.

Not the most pretty or effective strategy, but it beats the opponent getting clean possession from the bounce.

Agree.

At least with the "jam it on the boot style", the ball is going in the right direction and at worst, you have a 50/50chance of a team-mate getting the next possession....and in the right part of the field.

It also beats stopping, propping and handballing back into traffic, ala Selwood-style.

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Forwards love the ball to be jammed on the boot from the clearances, on most occasions it gives them the opportunity to read the ball quickly and use their forward skills to beat their opponent one on one. Rischi's continued development next year into a 25-35 possession midfielder next year is vital for us!

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Michael is the only player in the top 22 that is playing his season's best football at present - the poachers are lined up and drooling so it is time to re-sign him - ASAP

Does anybody know when his contract expires? Please don't tell me it's this year:(

Re: Michael Rischitelli

Does anyone else here think Riska is a big chance for our Best & Fairest?

He'd be up there. It'd be tough to pick a clear leader because the vast majority of the team has had form come in ebbs and flows. I guess it'll be who's had the most flow.
