Re: Michael Voss

"sigh"!! :( you just don't seem to want to back off or give in to someone elses opinion, which they are entitled to, you keep going...there really is a time to know when to back off...i have apologised, because i knew when i had gone to far, thats what you need to learn to do..and i'm actually not trying to be nasty, only offering some advice that may be helpful....enough said from me....cheers :)
What in gods name is your problem with AWG? She is a respected member of this board and would not have gotten there unless she had a good opinion and tolerated others on this board. So think about that when you attack and abuse her.

Why is this board so bickery?

It's not the board. The board is a good place.
It's just some threads get a bit nasty because of their topic.

In a Vain attempt to get this thread back on topic.

If they sack Pagan this week, maybe they should give Voss the last 10 games to try and prove himself......an audition of sorts.

Ratten will no doubt be caretaker coach, but giving Voss an audition might not be such a bad thing.

Why not give Ratts the top job? Why Voss first?

Not to worry though, it won't happen. Pagan will be there at least until the end of the season.

Although I wonder how long Dick will put up with this.

Fair call, just thought I'd put it out there.

The knives will be out and you're right, while I don't agree with it, I don't know how long Pratt will last before sucumbing to the "sack the coach" mob.

My resolve to defend him is weakening.:(

I don't actually think that would be fair to Voss quite frankly. It we're going down the Voss road (which it seems increasingly clear to me that we are) then we need to commit and go down that road completely. Let him come in at the end of the season, put his team in place, give him a preseason to put his plans and structures in place, and let him start with a blank slate in R1 2008.

You can't bring him in now and expect him to achieve any meaningful change in the last nine weeks, with serveral key players injured and the rest shell shocked after multiple 12+ goal drubbings.

When we lose to Melbourne next week, the temptation will be to replace Pagan then. Personally I think we should let Pagan finish his own dogs breakfast.

And I wouldn't have Ratten as a caretaker. If you don't accept that Voss is the man for the top job, then there are far better qualified candiates around than Ratten, but if you put him in as a caretaker you run the risk that fans will expect you to keep him ala Roos and Sydney. That worked out well for Sydney, I'm not conviced there would be the same outcome for us.

That's like trying to defend the indefensible!
Its not so much trying to say it isn't his fault, as trying to say its not only his fault.

I have never been a great believer in sacking coaches, because it send the wrong signal to the players. I.e. its not your fault, so don't worry.

The performance last night from the Dees was a disgrace IMO (sentiments echoed by Martin Pike), as they, feeling guilty at costing Daniher his job, actually pulled the finger out and perfromed.

Sadly, our blokes would probably do the same - mental attitude changes will cahnge this team perfromance. Not a new coach.

Anyway, I think we will see soon enough.
If I'm thinking his time is up (rightly or wrongly) then it probably is.

So there more to it than a new coach..........well I'll be damned.

The caretaker will most likely be someone already opn the assistants panel, unless they do appoint a new coach.

If they use a current assistant then Ratten and Crossisca have coaching experience.
If they appoint someone from outsidfe that group, why not put them on audition.
It won't just be results that would determine if Voss could cope.......it would become readily apparent based on how well he handled the situation, and match day.
This would give the club valuale insight into whether he is the right man for the job, or whether he needs to develope a bit more as an assistant.

I'm not convinced, just floating the idea out there.:thumbsu:

I agree to an extent. I don't think there is any value in replacing Pagan midseason.

But the reality is that good coaches should be capable of successfully changing the mental attitude of their players. Malthouse and Sheedy do regularily. Obviously it not something that can happen overnight, but Pagan is not in his 2nd or 3rd season, he is in his 5th. Even allowing for some of the extenuating circumstances enough really is enough.

Well I suppose it might work, as long as it was made clear what he was being judged on. If you bring in Voss for nine games, he may be perfectly comfortable in the box and on match day, but if we lose the last nine games anyway because he hasn't had time to implment meaningful reform ... the media won't care. He and the club will be savaged.

Re: Michael Voss

MacMum...it is pleasant and such a relief to know that at least some people have some common sense. As a Carlton person I really did not know until recently how many supporters we have that mirror - Richmond, Collingwood, Essendon, Western Bulldogs etc. Carlton has as many di>>head supporters as anybody else.

I also predicted that we would not get within 6 goals of the Dockers, but knowone has bothered to mention that. Why? Because it is true!

Better had leave it at that, otherwise the great unwashed, low income earners, single parents and the unemployed will become agitated.

I have to go to bed...I have work responsibilities to attend to. Earning a bona fide living is a touch more difficult than sitting on the couch and watching Dr. Phil.

All hail M & P.

Next thing you'll be predicting a bottom 3 finish and a floggin from the Swans n=in Sydney. How is it you are blessed with such insight?

Not enough room in this forum for you and you're ego.

Do you think you are a step above anyone else in here?
You are really not endearing yourself to the regular posters in here.

Hey guys... look I found one!!!

Herald Sun today (sunday 2 July)

Greg Swann has publically come out and said that no one in the club has formally or informally been incontact with ANYONE in regards to a new coach for next year.

Infact, he said you could quote him as saying it's "bullshit."

Go out, buy the paper and read it for yourselves. The Club has Officially said it has NOT been incontact with ANYONE for 2008.

Is that like the president coming out and saying "The coach has the full support of the board"........which in season past has been swiftly followed by the axe falling.

Bee, I am not going to name names - I respect my sources of information and don't want to implicate anybody that works in the industry.

Michael Voss will coach Carlton FC in 2008.

Bee, congratulations on attaining a wonderful qualification, that being a "Big Footy" moderator.

You are an inspiration to us all.

Just to add my bit...IIRC, didn't Micheal barrack for Carlton as a kid?? Think I read that somewhere once...could be interesting...I think he could coach straight up, no doubts at all.....:)

My information pertaining to Michael Voss commencing his senior coaching career at Carlton FC in 2008 comes from a variety of industry sources, a combination of people involved at AFL level and also in the media.

jj. the don't pump yourself up over JK. You didn't recruit him. Patrick Ryder will end up a far better player. Reinforces how little you actually know about AFL football, pal.

Michael Voss will coach Carlton FC in 2008...Don't worry about Melbourne FC. Michael is astute enough to know that strength in the front office is a pre-requisite for accepting any position i.e. Richard and Greg.

The recent announcement of the clubs hotel deals, record membership etc. ensures that the Carlton FC, whilst with much work to do, is on the improve.

More importantly, when Carlton FC play finals and in Grand Finals they invariably win them.

P.S. Denis Pagan has left an enduring legacy and that ought to be emphasised. A lot of young players', with the aid of hindsight, will see/agree where Denis was coming from.

Cool :thumbsu:
