Folks, can we keep this thread to collect Michael Voss, the coach's history, stats, articles etc, and not flood it with discussion on who should replace him etc. Treat it like you would a player thread.

We can only have 2 Voss threads if the content is different.

To discuss performance critiques and replacements etc, use this thread:

Good companies/clubs consider their people as their assets, not the buildings they work in or the equipment they use. Without people, you have nothing, just buildings. These assets need to be constantly maintained and developed. You talk about how the club made massive strides, I agree however the next phase of growth in our club I'd like see is better development of our people (ie our assets). Coaches, players, managers, board members, people must constantly be developed in order to be better, there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Do this and the results take care of themselves.
Hear, hear. We are in an industry that is continually making progress and changing. We need to not only catch up but get ahead of the rest. I have felt that for the last 25 years or more we have been behind in so many areas.

Thing is Vossy has had 4 years, how long do we need to give coaches to show we support them?

I guess as much as I am unexcited about Vossy, I was never that bullish on our list end of 2021. If you told me we'd finish 9th, 3rd, 8th and 13th next 4 years end of 2021 I'd have probably been more surprised about the finishing 3rd place than the other finishes.

I guess I got seduced at times that we were better than what we were, but my vibe end of 2021 is we had stuffed up the rebuild and were scrambling to find missing pieces getting in Gov, Williams, Cerra, Saad, Martin, Hewett etc, and were too reliant on injury prone players coming good. I never expected Charlie to come back the way he did, so that was a massive bonus I wasn't expecting.
I think we probably had to see out his contract. I am not a Michael Voss fan, quite the opposite, but all people can improve and have the capacity to improve and I think he probably does but we haven't supplied him with the resources/people to do so.

He needs to embrace modern footy and work towards a more outside, pace based game and that means his direction with the list build needs to do a massive turnaround.

I think there are signs he has tactically attempted this, however I also think having the right assistants around him will give him the people he needs.

What he needs to do is have good people around him, trust them and let them take the reigns.

I am excited to see what a new coaching group can bring and some new players as well.

I think our midfield needs to be nearly completly rebuilt and our forward line needs to be mostly rebuilt, however outside that we are ok.

We are a mediocre team who has crashed mostly because other sides have gone past us but also because we have had a clean out of injury prone talent who we did rely on as you have said.

Tactically we are poor but new assistants has the ability to change this. However modern tactics require modern players and we do not have them, mostly in the midfield. How we go about getting them will be interesting.

Isn’t taking a job (for multiple years) based on a single person being at that job short-sighted? If Ken is only coming here because his mate is at Carlton, then we are better off looking elsewhere.

i'd prefer if Voss heard from a different voice, not someone he spent 8 yrs with.

Could also be part of negotiations.
Some assurances may be offered before he comes. (Of what who knows)
could also be a lot of BS.
Everyone was reporting voss was gone but he stayed.
6 hours before NAS signed wth the Saints there were reports he was closing in on Adelaide.

Pretty much no one knows anything usually till a few hours before

Completely understand the reservations due to Voss’s contract situation, and it could very well be this is how prospective assistant coaches see the situation as well. Interesting times.
That's why the decision to keep Voss on 'into 2026' and looking for commitment from new Assistants / Senior Assistants is a bit of head scratcher, unless GW has something else planned. I hope he doesn't go extending Voss if half way through the year we are sitting 6-6, let it run to the end of the season.
Will be a fun place in here if we go 0-4 again next year.

I made the exact same observation as you. I was told the sell would be that a senior assistant would take the role on the basis that if Voss got sacked at some point in 2026, they would be first in line to replace him. I don’t believe this is the golden ticket as some do and I don’t see how it would attract quality assistants, however happy to be proven wrong.

Just on your final point, if the club achieves any sort of success next season, you can bet there will be an extension of Voss. How could there not be? I thought the whole point of putting the right people around Voss was to supplement his skill set and weaknesses, yet we’re going to just roll-over this same team for a new coach potentially less than a season after we put them in place? Just makes no sense on face value.

All the posters who went missing after Voss's reappointment and our two last wins would be back in force if that were the case.
