What was his glowing term for the 1-5 Ken?

"That is the brutality of the AFL at the moment, it is such a finely-tuned competition"

Accept your shit sandwich and be grateful it's not 2011-12!

It's almost as if we only discovered this year that there are actual opponents in a sporting competition. It's always been tough to win.

They could at least give the appearance of having done a proper review and search for the best available to create the change we need

I wonder if choco would put his hand up for it if given the chance. I'd back him for that role well before Voss.

Listening to Kochie on radio this morning he said that Voss would step up in his role.

This can only mean that Voss is replacing Nicks as senior assistant.

I can't see any way that he is the best available in Australia for this role.

Why are we settling? Why so quickly?

My god. He destroyed Brisbane with bad judgement.

This is basically my point. I'm not saying for sure that Voss is a winner (I've actually made my thoughts on the loser mentality of coaches with lack of finals experience pretty vocal) but it's hard to place a lot of blame at his feet when he's near the bottom of the pecking order of coaches.

2013-15 Nicks was back line coach when one on one our defenders weren't actually that great and relied on midfield pressure and winning the territory battle to hold up defensively. 2016 he shifted to the forward line when we were mediocre in attack and hilariously out of synch defensively. 2017 he becomes senior assistant where our gameplan fails to hold up against the best teams and again this year when attack and defence are horribly out of synch together.

The evidence more points towards Nicks (and Hinkley, obviously) not being able to assist in incorporating "total football". We are rock solid in defence while being totally impotent in attack, or vice versa. This would suggest an inability to fully incorporate all line coaches into the gameplan - which would give an obvious excuse for Voss.
Guess whats in between.

If I am understading what we have discussing in multiple threads (huge "if," by the way), in fact, Ken would be cumulatively holding both head-coach and general-manager positions. Davies would be head-of-football only formally. He responds to Hinkley; not, the other way around.

If so, it would make more sense — it would be the simplest practical solution for us:

a) aknowledging that Davies is our List Manager;
b) having Ken only as our full-time GM; and
c) promoting our assitent coach, Voss, to HC.

The head-coach is the football second-in-command and responds to the GM. He deals directly with assistants and players; is in charge of the day-to-day practices with the squad.

The general manager dictates what every part of a football department needs to do to make his plan work: from analytics, the intel on how to explore strentghts and weaknesses - ours and opponent's; from the HC, the gameplans and the strategies to be the most competitive in both AFL and SANFL; from the list manager, to hire the players who fit the plan; from the fitness team, the workload to have the players at their pick come Finals, but without jeopardizing the Minor Round; etc. He holds the heads, including the HC, accountable.

Simplifying, considering football only, I believe the best structure for PAFC would be like this:

President (Club Outside)
\/
CEO (Club Inside)
\/
GM (Football)
\/
HC (Squad)
In our particular case, below the HC, I would split into Power and Magpies. The Magpies Coach would be on the same level as the Power Assistent Coach. Does it make sense?

Lol...Why would they give the job to Voss over Teague?
They really should go for Hinkley imo.....he is a brilliant man with lots of well thought-out, practical, ideas. He is insuring the financial security of the club for years to come. Oh yes, and his personal hygiene is above reproach.

Don't know why you would pick Voss over what Teague has shown
Its Carlton. They’ve had Ratten as home grown champ, Malthouse as premiership coach trying again, then a credentialled newbie coach from the best coaching system, all failed despite being v different methods.

If they can’t get a current high-profile senior coach (no confidence in another newb?), then whats left is an ex-coach with a brand name as a player

C4[2]Yo`DooR have you heard anything about Voss getting the Carlton job?

Figured you would be invested in this decision as a Carlton person.

Heard on ABC radio after the Carlton game that he has been interviewed and that Carlton panel think he has been the most impressive applicant so far. Can't remember who said it, but might have been David Parkin.
