That might have been me. I may have come back to check the thread to see if there were any new posts, but couldn't think of anything else to add at that point myself.

Another thing - thoroughly impressed at how quiet Port have been in picking up Vossy, I don't think I heard a single rumour about this!

I sure didn't hear a single muttering about who might be in line for the job. Impressed, but not the slightest bit surprised, with the club's professionalism in this.

I think getting Voss is a pretty good move. I can't call it great yet as I'm not sure how much of Walsh's strategic stuff he replaces. But its a good get and plenty of free publicity.

I used to say I'd like to get the Gowans boys into our box because it might be fun watching them disagree on a move. Might be fun watching Carr and Voss go at making a mid field move but disagree with each other.

Back in August 2012 I had this 11 point list wish of the assistants I wanted us to get. Voss ticks 3 of the boxes I wanted. He is as good as Buddha re mid field experience and had great kicking and handballing skills which hopefully he can pass on to some of our players.

4. you need 2 or 3 midfield coaches with so many rotations. I liked the way Buddha Hocking played and I like what I have seen our mid field do at the clearances the last 2 weeks. I'd keep Buddha and get a bloody skills coach so that they can use the ball after they have won it. I don't know about Carr but I like the way he played and he can concentrate on the mongrel tactics.

6. A super duper kicking skills coach
7. A super duper handballing skills coach

KT on Voss
“To have a person of the calibre of Michael Voss join the Port Adelaide Football Club is very exciting for all involved,” said Mr Thomas.

“His record as an elite midfielder for Brisbane is legendary and his five years as the Senior Coach of the Brisbane Lions will be enormously valuable to Ken and the playing group.

“Our Club is continuing its drive to build a football program full of people with character, values and a burning desire to succeed. Michael Voss is a perfect fit.”

Voss on Port
“Joining Port Adelaide is a chance to be part of a fantastic journey with a group of exciting young players,” said Voss.

“The brand of footy played under Ken Hinkley and the continued growth of the club over the last two years has been very impressive and I am looking forward to contributing to that journey.”

“Port Adelaide has created a strong team of coaches and support around the players committed to continual improvement.

“I look forward to contributing to this as well as learning from Ken and the team. I can’t wait to get started and begin working with an emerging, exciting and hungry midfield group.”

Good to see it's a multi-year deal. In hindsight we should have considered that for Richardson and Walsh.

Both Richardson and Walsh were on multi-year deals. Can't stop a coach leaving mid-contract for a senior coaching position.

We had them on multi deals - but the standard AFL contracts for assistants is that you have to let them go if the get a main coaching job. They are only locked in if they are trying to move sideways.

Thirteen pages in. Has anyone mentioned how he's Polec's coach again when at this time last year Polec was lumped into the general "He left Brisbane because of problems with Vossy" shtick?

Have you read the 13 pages to see the proof that it was BS?

I know, of course they were.
It just amused me the article Voss joins Port Adelaide as midfield manager specified this when we know it's meaningless for the most part, and particularly for us recently.

benefit is though voss won't be getting a senior role any time soon after his last stint, but we can ensure he won't change clubs to be an assistant anywhere else

Was mentioned a few pages in. I wouldn't think there would be a problem. Polec is a first choice player nowadays and Vossy and he will work with that.

I never doubted it was BS, well at least so far as Voss was assigned 100% of the blame. But will look back as work allows. Just so pleased with this I had to get a post or three in.

Polec was the one of the go home five I was least worried about to lose, not because of ability, but because we simply were never going to get the best out of him, some players just want to be in their home town and he was one of them. Still needs some work, but I think if he works hard will be a continue to improve.

Think 12 months has passed since Polec's leaving, I would think that under Hinkley he has realised that Voss was trying to make hima better footballer, not give him an easy ride.
