Voss on Open Mike now. Made a great comment when asked if he'd like to coach again.

"If I was to answer now....no"
"But...I really want to be involved in club, to be in a club to support, whoever that may be. And the whole club has to be aligned. If there's ever any chink in the armour, you cannot climb the top of the mountain. It must be aligned from the board all the way down to the players"

Seems he chose wisely.
Let me assure you he did plenty of research - you've got a bloody dream team coaching you:thumbsu:

I was completely gobsmacked to be honest. I was convinced we were going to grab Brendon McCartney, which I would have been happy with. But to find out we'd grabbed Voss, and so quickly after Walsh, sent me over the moon.

Before the pre-season I would've been happy with Mark Neeld and Jonathan Giles. We ended up with Michael Voss and Paddy Ryder. Just incredible stuff.

I think we knew for some time that Walsh was leaving, and Voss would have been balls deep in negotiations well before the media knew Walsh to the crows was confirmed.

Poor old Neeld. Pendlebury/Swan/Beams/Ball/Didak/Thomas became a Panzer Division under his tutelage and haven't been anywhere near as potent since.

Would be an asset behind the scenes running an AFL midfield pretty much anywhere, but the way the industry works he's now forever stained as that bloke with the unfortunate tic who did even worse at the Dees than a tanking Bailey.

He's on Team Hird now. That can only enhance his reputation.

It's like another world at Alberton now. Or a world fabled to have existed in the past like the stately domes of Kubla Khan but now being restored to former glories.

I hate you all for making this pop up on my feed and reminding me that Vossy isn't a Lion anymore.

:(

But seriously, good luck this year - can't help but be fond of the way you guys have turned yourselves around so quickly, I remember our scrappy affair in the pouring rain at AAMI in front of 13,953 in 2012, massive job well done. :thumbsu:

And yet the one I remember most was 2008 (I think) when it started absolutely pissing down at 3/4 time and you guys came back to win from like 40 points down.

You guys are next on the meteoric rise from the depths list, could be this year!

That was nightmarish

That was horrific. Iirc we dropped a few games in similar fashion (Carlton was one I think) and there were serious questions about fitness.
How things can change.

I wasn't at that game as it was my (now) son-in-laws 21st. Watched in on the TV though and it hurt like hell.

Yes we did the same thing with Carlton, a June long weekend game IIRC.

Twice. In 2011 we fell in a heap in the second half and in 2010 we fell in a heap in the last quarter.

In 2010 we led by 9 points at 3/4 time and lost by 26.

I remember that shocker. Juggling two small kids in torrential rain, only to lose the unloseable. Switched to under cover seating the next season. At least stayed mostly dry from then watching crap on-field

If Walsh was any type of bloke he would have informed Port that he had applied for or been had approached and was considering.

I've heard Walsh was asked specifically by KT when he came back to Port "do you have any aspirations at all to be a senior coach", to which he gave a firm "none whatsoever".
I don't think he has too many friends left at Port Adelaide.

A lot was made years ago when he left the first time of choco being hard to work with. With the stories in recent times it's pretty clear the fault in that relationship breakdown were shared.

It will be an interesting 12 months for the 'bots as we find out if he can translate his offered knowledge as an assistant into taking the lead - which is a different skill

the 2010 one is the one I was thinking of but it was the 2011 that was played on the June long weekend

I believe that firm "none whatsoever" was actually a sarcastic "only if the Crows offer me a million a year!"

It's a crazy contract. Even crazier when Walsh's strategy to date has been "copy Port".

I've heard Vossy, and maybe KT, say a couple of times that Ken had sounded him out well before Walsh took the crows job. Ken knew that the crows were sniffing around, but whether that was because Phil had told him or he had other sources, who knows.
