the inquirer was interesting today.

Suggests our centre square work is OK, even though we only really have 4 players that bump up the numbers in Wines, Gray, Boak and Hartlett. The rest must really drag the average down as we're sixth but any combination of those generally works quite well. around the ground stoppages also must be very down. clubs have definitely worked us out on defensive wing stoppages reducing that slingshot momentum out of d50.
We fumble and fall over our own feet, we are a ****ing rabble...

For me our coaching panel seems unbalanced.

We initially had Richardson, then Walsh as an experienced back up for Ken. Both were known at the time as some of the better strategists in the game.

Now we have Voss, with no experience outside Brisbane, with his main strength seeming to be one-on-one development with players.

We don't seem to have anyone properly addressing our clearances, nor our set ups. Is he performing the role we got him for?

Maybe ask our Director of Coaching?

We've managed to get progressively worse since Voss came on board. Could just be a coincidence but when your midfield goes from one of the best to one of the worst in a matter of 7 months, heads need to roll.

I'm pleased but cautious.

Voss doesn't appear to be a 'tactical genius' or 'midfield mastermind'.

Ken loves Hart "The greatest person I've met in footy" and Hart must think very highly of Voss. I'll back his/their judgement.
I hate when my pessimistic thoughts are found to be correct.

Still it's not fair to put all the blame on Voss.

OK **** it, here's your negatives.

- Taking on the Brisbane job with no AFL assistant experience. One of the most important things in any professional is to have a good understanding of your own capacity. This move pretty much said that Vossy has no such understanding.

- Clearing out the assistant coaches at the end of his first year. Sure they were all Leigh Matthews' guys, but they were a better brains trust than Vossy put in place. Wayne Brittain was his key recruit. Jade Rawlings another. What the ****.

- Fevola. What the **** was that. So now we know he's a shit judge of character too.

If you want a guy to be a football legend walking around the place and give a few gee-ups, Vossy will be great, but IMO he's going to be a deadweight in terms of judgement. If Kenny is Mr Tactics, great, but we're building a very Ken-dependent coaching team if we're going to rely that heavily on him - at least we knew Phil could carry the load tactically, as could Alan Richardson. We've replaced them with two Brians that were never talked about as being among the smartest players in the game. Talented or determined, sure.

Also now that we are a `success' again, sure its nice to be able to pull the big names, but the big names aren't always the best names. Richmond & Collingwood's patchy periods of poaching profiled players produced a paucity of positives. Just because we can pick anyone, it doesn't mean its easier to make the decision - its harder, you need to pick smarter, because all of a sudden `who is available' is far less important than `what do we specifically need'. If thats Voss, great, but IMO he's a character recruit, not a smarts one.
ouch

10/10 post, especially with hindsight.

At old world Port Adelaide heads would roll. At new age Port Adelaide the Prez will send an angry tweet about the performance and then one to congratulate some random Geelong supporting celebrity on a "great win".

I was for this appointment back in the day. I thought Voss, despite being pretty woeful as a head coach, would thrive in the quality environment of the Port Adelaide coaches box under the expertise of Ken Hinkley.

I was clearly wrong on all counts there - on Voss's skills (every single midfielder has gone backwards under him) and also the idea of hi developing any further in this coaches box.

Serious question. Can we move him on somewhere mid season? I'm sure he still has value somewhere - he is a born leader and he's obviously not dumb - but he needs to get the **** away from the head midfield role. Has moving a coach mid season ever been done?

Make him runner for the Magpies Academy side

I can't recall it but you would assume they could reshuffle the box if it was bleedingly obvious to them a need to do so.

Edit: Wtf am I saying!! with contracts etc. it's probably a sacking or nothing
