Forget Lobbe.
When you have two close up beasts in Wines and Boak plus two clearance beasts in Gray and Wingard we should win more stoppages than not no matter who is in the ruck.

Start being too tricky and you'll end up tricking yoursef.

I swear (based on vision only) that we are getting first hands on the footy on a consistent basis (at least breaking even) and then it's the next move (e.g. handballing to a conveniently located player in the midfield structure) that is falling down.

I've got a great idea!
Will save Voss' career.

1. Boak and Wines are always starting at the centre square.
2. Ebert and Hartlett if it's not too much trouble for them.
3. Lobbe makes some faux attempt at tapping to advantage.
4. Our guys get in there hard and CLEANLY handball it out to Polec/Toumpas/White/Pittard already running by at top speed.
5. They kick it into the forward line to ADVANTAGE of our forwards to run onto.

I just saved our season, wheres my payday?

But Voss is probably right,
1. Boak you shouldn't play in the centre go tag some guy.
2. Wines, stand over the ball and watch harder opposition players get down and get it out.
3. Outside mid's stay on your wing and dont provide a clean exit for our inside mids to dish it out too.

Agree, and our inability to clear our arms in tackles, most other teams can still clear the ball after being tackled, we go to ground and can't dispose to a player.

Are we all in agreement Voss's structures at center and clearances are farrrrked???? I read somewhere he does not like having a tagger but prefers players to block so one of our players gets the ball. Like the old days of Jonathon Black, getting the ball while other players block. Didn't Boak have to block in the GWS game and had few touches. And I heard in last nights game Wines was blocking. Wow that seems to be working nicely!!!! Do you know a player called Kane Cornes his career was revitalized because Walshy (RIP) found a role for him that he was so good at... TAGGING

Nope.

Check out second half.

Admittedly I was at the game and a tad emotional so maybe I missed some, but there was about a quarter length where a Geelong player touched the ball first on every occasion at every ball-up be it centre, boundary or elsewhere.

Can we demote Voss and let Buddha take charge? Surely that would improve things

The same Buddha who's been here since the Williams era? At some stage we should probably accept he's not part of the solution.

You're pretty close but unfortunately Port players lacked the physical strength to compete and were constantly knocked off the ball across the ground.

I see the Magpies were flogged in the clearances today too

That aided my (drinking) mood no end:rolleyes:

Seriously though, and I'm sure as hell p****d off with Voss's destruction of the centre square clearances, but that is an indictment of Ken's control over 'assistants' and or indicates the PAFC has made an appalling recruiting mistake.

Why do you think Buddha would improve things? It's not as if he had his line humming when assistant coach in the past. Nice guy, but I wouldn't count on him being the answer by any means.

Just tossed up Buddha's name simply because at this current time it's not like we can grab an assistant from another club whilst the season is still active.

Ports players looked smaller no doubt against Geelong. Its really frustrating watching them getting blocked and knocked out of contested. Second to the ball across the entire second half. I think I posted the same thing last year when we played them

ftfy ;)

I think we should hunt David King to work with Voss

King was part of Plough's brainstrust at Richmond.

He reminds me a bit of Gary Neville, does King. Is a bit of a wizard with the telestrator and can offer sharp insights, but coaching in clubland is an entirely different beast.

What a strange appointment that was. Not only totally inexperienced as a coach but he didn't know the language.

We really need to give this guy and his team more credit. Has been knocked pillar to post by everyone on this board, haven't seen anyone defend him once. But since the loss of lobbe Voss has actually had to work and to break even and win the clearances by 1, to be even be competitive in a midfield battle without a ruckman is outstanding. The setups they put in place to continually lose hitouts by 35+ every single week but still win the ball has been outstanding. Good on ya vossy and co.

That's all well and good but there's no point asking people to take the heat off Vossy without suggesting another scapegoat. I vote for Routledge, we are looking malnourished all over the field and we all know the nutritionist is the key player off field.
