Maybe its the romantic in me, but I would love to see an all out effort to gather our former champs who are now coaches .e.g. Scott bros, Lappin Leppa, Chris Johnson and bring them home....and then together with Voss, Brown and Black, work on forming our next assault at the premiership..

The old bringing in the new..

...I also believe we have the majority of young players capable of doing that, just have to find the winning combination..

We don't have to do things the same way as other clubs......lets do it our way..be independantly different..

...but then I wake up from that dream..

It is a lovely dream. Sadly not possible, but it would be great.

I've voted for Vossy until the end of the season and plan to stick by him. As Kezz and others have said, there isn't really any coach ready to make an instant impact on the group in 2012.

Harvey isn't a bad coach, but he isn't a good replacement.

Not usually a supporter of the Royals but I have to agree with this Viceregal -

"Anyway I just don't get it - this is exactly what I was expecting to see this year plus *and* minus 20% and until shown otherwise fully anticipating the rest of the season to play out both better and worse than what we have shown so far and really looking forward to how we go agaist the teams we are about the same level as etc ... "

2012 and 2013 will be two tough years for the club, no matter who is the coach. Doesnt mean we cant criticise Voss for things like selection and player development; and review his performance at the end the year against performance benchmarks in his contract.

Knee jerk “sack the coach” comments deny the reality of where we are in terms of team development, potential damage to the club’s reputation in the “serious” football world; and the lack potential replacements with better credentials.

What sort of potential coach are we going to attract at the end of year if we sack a coach after 3 bad losses? Any potential coach with ability to assess player potential will know we are long way from success and steer clear of us.

Already it has started- CEO expresses full confidence in coach.

Wasn't aware that Malcolm Holmes had weighed in. Link?

I know that the Chairman's comments have been discussed in another thread here - they don't read like the typical fake show of support though.

If we lose to GWS this weekend, Vossie will have his card marked. I don't think that he will be sacked immediately, but I do think that he will be gone at the end of the year, unless something remarkable happens and there is a complete turn around in our on field performances. Even then, if a "quality / experienced" coach like Paul Roos, Rodney Eade or Mick Malthouse became available, Voss would probably struggle to hold on.

FORTUNATELY, I think that we will not only beat GWS, we will smash them, so the jury will remain out on Vossie until the inevitable end of year review.

Malthouse has stated he won't leave Melbourne as all his family is there. Eade would be a waste of time in pursuing, like someone mentioned earlier Nigel Lappin might be a good fit.

Loved Vossy....who didn't but the Fevola debarcle and where we are now because of that, I just can't forgive him.

Great players don't always make great coaches

Not real sure what you cant forgive him for.

He was and is one of the best things to ever happen to this footy club.

Will be very sad if he is judged by what has happened in the last few years, which are actually not ALL his fault.

Voss coaching the Lions had a certain "romance" to it too.

So replacing Voss with Roos based on a romantic notion is a total absurdity.

Yeah, but in this romance novel Roos has coached a team to a premiership. Voss has read the sports report on the news.

I agree that it would be pointless to replace Voss mid-season and I think his position would (and should) be reviewed at the end of the season. Certainly most employees are subject to an annual review. Let's face it, none of us are fully aware of what the board is expecting from him this season.

Obviously no supporter can be content with the last couple of games but with 16 rounds left in the regular season there is plenty of time for improvement. Let's hope we see it.

Why not?

we are even making a list of disgruntled players to poach from other club :D, I would love to see Nigel back in our club.

He's worked under Bomber and Chris scott, been part of 2 premierships (different coaching styles as well, to some extent), has played his role in how the newcomers get moulded as part of Geelong playing structure.

Coaches midfield as well, a big tick in many boxes. Grab him I say.

The process in the appointment of Voss was corrupted by what I would call the "Old Boy Syndrome".

I 'm guessing that you would agree with that proposition.

If that's the case, it's totally hypocritical to espouse the merits of grabbing another "Old Boy" just to get him back at the club.

Lappin "coaches midfield".........so bloody what?

What do you think Voss has been doing?

OK...........yeah........ Lappin has been an assistant at Geelong ....once again........so bloody what?

How brilliant would you have to be to be a successful Assistant Coach with the list they have had over the last 5 years?

I feel for Voss sometimes.....he took the position as Head coach at our club when things weren't exactly rosy. In case anyone's forgotten, even Leigh couldn't get us back to the finals after 2004.

Leigh's record after that was

2005....fail
2006...fail
2007...fail
2008...fail...."OK I give up!"

Voss got us to the finals in 2009 at his first attempt , had a go at (what turned out to be) an ill fated 2010 campaign and has been trying to pick up the pieces ever since.

I have always had reservations about the process (or lack thereof) that the Club employed in his appointment.

But come on...... irrespective of the the flaws in the methodology of appointing Voss in the first place, the "new" Board has seen fit to extend his contract (to the end of next season?), so I think we have to respect that judgement.

Get off his back for a while.

Yeah, but in this romance novel Roos has coached a team to a premiership. Voss has read the sports report on the news.

In this real life story, Roos is now an armchair critic/expert on Foxfooty and Voss is coaching a footy team.

Trivializing the issue by suggesting Voss' only credentials are as a "sports reporter/reader" really doesn't do you any credit.

This is what gives me the shits when people start bringing Chris Scott's name up in this debate. He was given a stellar list, but the way people speak you would think Geelong were a rank outsider he single handedly nabbed a flag for.

As you said, when Voss had some quality on the paddock, he took us to the finals, and won one, after an extended period outside the eight.

The way people judge coaches is utterly absurd at times.

Caroline Wilson giving vossy a nice little serve re Luke power, bradshaw & riska. All valid points but at the same time the Power decision is understandable but still sad!

except that we've already moved on long ago and Caro like some lame Bay13 troll wants to bring up the past. That ****wit's segment should be renamed to The Horseface's Cheap Shot.

Good post Luthor.
Would Scotty do any better with our list
Probably not, he got handed a dream job with a team very hungry for revenge.
Leigh did a great job with a fanatastic list, but when it got too hard he left what was left to Vossy.
I feel for Voss ,he needs a tough skin at the moment
IF he resigns or is stood down ,last thing we need is another ex Lion,we need a complete outsider..

And Luke Power is the only one of the 3 to contribute anything decent on the field this year...
