Personally I dont really feel like its something that is "good to hear".

It would have been nice if he could have made the decision himself to retire on his own terms.

Delisting doesnt seem to befit a player of Micks stature.

A shame.....

Agree, but may be that he did make the decision to retire and "delisting" is the term being used to describe it. Well, I hope so because Mick is one of the great full backs to play the game when you conisder who he played on and kept quiet ... dunstall, lockett, ablett, etc.

Congratulations Mick on a great career and thank you for being a magnificent servant of the club.

C'mon people. Sure, Mick has been a great servant of the club but to say that he could possibly go on next year...
He could hardly lift his arms up this season...
I too would have preferred if it was his decision, however, if he didn't make it, the club would be left with no other choice...

I really hope that Bourke is one of the others to go.

your all clinging to past glories if you seriously believed micky was worth persisting with at fb....leigh brown will all make you eat your words that mick should have played on this year...

and most footballers want to continue playing footy as long as they can (injuries permitting)...it's too bad micky didn't know when his time was up.....

saying that though he's been a magnificent servant to the club and i wish him all the best in the future

hmmmm - you might have missed the point there Neoblaze.

Its not a question of whether he could go on or not (nor a case of clinging to past glories) but of the manner of departure.

Delisting just seems a bit grubby for a North legend.

sometimes people need to be told to jump the ship....but i would have prefered it if he had retired on his own terms obviously his will to play on another season didn't fit in with the club's objective to grow and build around a brighter future rather than do what pagan did and play who he liked...

said on 10 news that he is considering nominating for the pre-season draft also said north delisted 6 players including mick winston and lange.

someone like mick's wife/girlfriend/close friend ... should give him a news flash and tell him to accept the club's job offer!!

well mick you will be sorely missed, i dont know if you should go the draft as you do have a good brain, with your it skills. it would be better to settle into your job now.

hope to see you around at work soon getting the computer supplies,

personally i thought the 14 games could of been given.

heres to a happily married life and career;)

It's a sad day to see a favourite son of the club delisted.

I think he might have had one more year left in him.

However , as they say all good things must come to an end.

Whilst we say farewell to a true club champion , I'm sure Mick will always be remembered as a true Shinboner.

I'm proud that my son chose Mick Martyn as his football hero...

I cant accept the manner of Micks departure at all.

I think the club should have ensured that the announcement of Micks final days at North were befitting of his status at the club.

Stern , you are quite correct and this whole issue sucks big time!

However , we can not change things now.

At least Blakes managed to get "chaired" off the ground.

Mick Martyn will remain an icon of North for my family and will always be held in the highest regard.

Neo can get stuffed!

This from an article in The Age. It`s a shame Mick couldn`t get to 300. I understand Laidley`s logic though...

Martyn was told he was no longer required, at a meeting with Laidley and club officials yesterday morning. He did not take the news well, but the Roos are hopeful of persuading the 287-game full-back to take on a role as a mentor to its key defenders this year.

Laidley called Martyn "a champion of this football club" who had given the Kangaroos outstanding service. He said while Martyn felt he was still good enough to remain in the starting 18 - "and that might prove to be correct" - the coach had to take a longer-term view.

Laidley said it was important for young tall defenders such as Rod Crowe and John Baird to be given games next year and he pointed out that other distinguished former teammates Glenn Archer, David King and Anthony Stevens were at or near 30 years of age and the club needed to be ready when they eventually followed Martyn and finished their careers with the club.

Yes it would have been fantastic to see Mick chaired off like John Blakey - but for that to happen, Mick would have had to be able to make the hard decision himself and retire gracefully.

He's been not only a great player but an icon at North - at this point the dignity of his departure is in his own hands. 2002 was the "one last year" he now still says he wants, and everyone else could see it. The club has made every effort last season and now to allow him to bite the bullet and go with dignity, and he's chosen to push on anyway.

Sorry Mick, sorry Tash, but now it's looking a bit tragic. I hope he changes his mind about the draft - he's welcome to play for another club if he wants to but I'd hate to see him not get picked and that is surely the most likely result. I really want to see him at Arden St training next year, not limping off with another hamstring but helping the kids achieve his mighty standards of smartness and toughness.

Hi everyone this is my first post in here have been reading people's opinion's and thoughts for the last year.
I look forward to the arguments on our differing opinion's on certain topics which may come up .
In regards to Micky has been a great servant of the club sad to see him go but I truly believe that his time was up.
At times during the season it seemed that he would not over stretch himself as he was worried about doing his hamstring again.
I hope he stays around the club and does not do what Doug Hawkins did and play one more year at Fitzroy total waste in my opinion.
He should be remembered as a North Melbourne player and retire gracefully with his head held high and not go to another club get injured and retire because of this.

Hey there NMFC,

I agree with you totally, and maybe with both of us posting decent arguments we will get some sanity in these forums.

Hey can we eat hotdogs together?
