This bullshit foreplay like on 7 news tonight is making me sick, just for the sake of saving face and not dancing on Ratts grave. Just announce it, sign Cloke and get on with trading etc. etc. Membership will hit 50K next year the build up to the season will be huge.

Would really love for us to finally hit the magic 50K number next season. The club really expected us to do it this year but the season we had caused us to fall just short. IMO we always bite ourselves in the foot with a loss to an ordinary side or to Essendon or Collingwood early in the season.

The other thing is that there seems to be a big group of sooks that "barrick" for the club that won't sign up because of things like, sacking Fev. There were heaps of them the year after we did that according to a Carlton membership sales person who rang me. You can bet that there will be a few thousand whinging sooks who wont sign up this year because 1 what we did to Ratts, 2 getting Malthouse and/or Cloke or 3 because they don't like Sticks. I just hope the memberships the change brings outweighs what we lose and it should and I also hope we put in a strong nab cup and start the season strongly, including wins over Richmond, Collingwood and Essendon and no losses to ordinary sides. If this happens then we aught to go very close to reaching our goal. The best thing about bad supporters is that they are often also bandwagoners and as soon as we start winning, Malthouse/Cloke will be their greatest hero, Ratts will be in the past and Sticks will be held on their own pedistal. We can hit 50K but we are going to have to get off to a good start to do it.

Nah, I'd like him there well before round 1.

Yep, the new coach has a lot of work to do, the earliest a coach is appointed the better.

There is a lot of getting to know players, working out how to trim the list, sorting out the assistants and other football staff, eduating the players on his way of doing things, physically moving his stuff into the place, sorting stuff out with recruitment staff, coming up with a preseason schedule and probably spending a lot of time with each individual one on one. The hard work will all be done early and the earliest the better.

Gee he was practically jumping out of his skin in that channel 7 interview.
That was my impression. He so wanted to announce he has the job, but clearly the club has a certain timeframe in mind for the announcement & he has been told to play it cool (unfortunately he didn't do that terribly well tonight).

You get the sense he won't be going in half hearted like Malcolm Blight at the Saints. He looks full of beans and ready to bust the door down - reckon he's going to generate the same buzz around the club that Judd did when he signed on.

Carlton and Malthouse are both just trying to be respectful to Ratts here. Everyone knows he was lined up for the position long before Ratts got the sack.

Edit- This is how fast Malthouses interview would have been once he said he was keen to coach again.

That's what I wanted to see. Malthouse showing some enthusiasm, saying positive things about the club. I hated the circus where he talks about how we have issues, how we have to be a fit for him. This was far more positive. The Carlton Football Club is bigger than Mick Malthouse, bigger than Brett Ratten, hell we were bigger than Jezza, and we shouldn't be talked down by any outsider.

Mick also said he would need to time to talk to the players, and that is what I have been saying. He really needs to sort out genuinely who should be staying and who should be going, and he has to ascertain that for himself. As it is, he will only be fully available after the GF and only has a short time to prepare for trade week and he is planning a holiday as well.

Mick Malthouse is not the man for Carlton Football Club: Jeff Kennett
Now it is all about Mick Malthouse again, not the best interests for Carlton, or the code, but Mick Malthouse. Appointing Mick will be a mistake because he will be bigger than the club, as he was at Collingwood. With a good pre-season, and fewer injuries next year, Carlton can be competitive for the next five years. It needs to select a coach who will be the servant of the club, its history and its future, a coach with a proven track record who can contribute stability after years of inconsistency in management.

The most qualified candidate is Paul Roos - successful, experienced, balanced and with an understanding of the importance of team. Carlton should do everything to secure his services next year. If the Blues can get him, every club will have genuine reason to fear Carlton next year.

Mick has been a valuable addition to the commentary team. He should stay there and allow us to share his insights into the game. Leigh Matthews should be his example. A great player, a great coach and a great and valued commentator. Mick, life is full of changes; embrace your new life and new role.

Well I got the clear impression that MM wants the job but also Carlton are talking to someone else. Much more respectful towards the Club and cognisant about the importance of getting the decision made sooner rather than later...:thumbsu: Yeah a good media performer - and Kennett is the best contra indicator of all time as far as footie goes.

Malthouse set to sign with Blues

CARLTON'S big-dollar pitch to make Mick Malthouse coach was made in his lounge room on Monday night.

Blues chiefs Stephen Kernahan, Greg Swann and Andrew McKay visited Malthouse's East Melbourne home to formally offer him the job.
Malthouse's wife Nanette was also there and gave her tick of approval.
While the financial details are yet to be agreed, Malthouse, 59, will sign off on a three-year deal worth more than $3 million. An official announcement will be made next week, possibly Tuesday.

It also emerged yesterday that Malthouse asked friend and former Richmond teammate Robert Wiley to join him at the Blues as a coaching assistant. Asked about the talks with Carlton, Malthouse said last night: "They were very honest and I have a clearer picture now of how the inner workings of the football department work at Carlton."The three-time premiership coach told Channel 7 his first question was about the Blues' bid to poach Travis Cloke from Collingwood.

No paywall TG :D

I saw Robert Wiley and thought we were gathering a Dad's Army of coaches. However I did not realise the tactical nous and teaching capabilities of Wiley. He was responsible for a series of videos on the game that I wasn't aware of. Some of you have probably seen them but I would love for our players to be better drilled in some of these areas.
