Refusing to confirm that he could be officially unveiled as early as Tuesday, Malthouse admitted there had been a disagreement with Richardson when he was at Collingwood under Malthouse.

“There was a difference of opinion over certain issues at Collingwood,” Malthouse said.

“The issues was not necessarily with myself … but he had a problem or a run-in with another assistant coach and into the fitness section.

“There was a conflict with the way it was being run, and you can’t have that.

“(I went with the other) assistant coaches.”

And while Malthouse would only said ‘it may well be’ that he would get the job, he claimed a year in the media had helped him get a wider perspective on an expanded competition.
“If it falls that way – I don’t think I have been out of the game,” Malthouse said.

“Watching from the box at 3AW and Channel Seven has given me a greater understanding of all the teams.

“If I was five or six years out and I did not watch a game I think it would be very difficult to come back in.

“12 months in the media, I don’t see that being an issue.”

Mick seems like the sort of guy who would appreciate some nice granite formations. Can imagine him sitting the boys down like a primary school field trip and elaborating on the facies of some of his favourite rocks (complete with samples of course).

Having heard Jako's insightful, articulate boundary-riding observations for the last couple of years, I am terrified at the thought of him having an educational/mentoring/instructional role with any of our players.

Apparently he has been working at the AIS/AFL academy in an assistant coaching role.

Jakovich, who played a club record 276 games for West Coast, has been involved with the AIS-AFL Academy as an assistant coach.

I am very confident we will announce Mick as our coach this week. Clearly they didn't want to do in the first week of the finals.

If memory serves me correctly, Ross Lyon was announced as Freo coach during semi final week last year.

I just think the club will realise they need to make the appointment reasonably quickly because trade week is not far away and they will want to sort out the assistant coach situation with Mick's input. Not only that,most management is crucial with his input because they need to discuss the types of players they want to draft.

My Biggest concern or worry is with comments MM has made about Carlton during the year, Especially that he would move Chris Judd to a HBF, now as a HUGE Juddy Fan i dont want to see our Captain and Elite Midfielder not in the Guts getting his hands on the Ball, But i might be able to live with it if it delivers number 17..

Actually, I wouldnt mind Judd playing off a HBF, sneaking up into the centre of the ground to run through and collect the ball on the outside and drill it into Waite, Casboult and our as yet unnamed new KPF we are getting from FA.

Yeah see what u are saying, could Prolong his Career as well, looking at it like that it has Merrit, but do we have a Player to replace him in the guts and around Stoppages? Im all for him playing longer after all we got him to win Grand Finals, would be disappointing if he never did at Carlton..

If I was Mick, I would move Gibbs into the centre and Judd to the HBF and have someone like Tuohy or Army on the HFF and Lucas on the wing...

And then have them constantly moving around dragging their players to parts unknown.

This way, we get mismatches as people try and pick the guys up as they move around

If we look at the role Carrazo plays ie. one of the best run with players in the comp but still manages to get plenty of the ball and imagine what Judd could do in that role.

Everything Carrots can do Judd can do better and the difference being that opposition teams leave Carrots one out. If Judd plays that role would he be left one out?

Using Hawthorn as an example: if we were to give Judd a run with role against Mitchell I'd back him to get at least as much ball and do at least as much damage. The difference is that Hawthorn would be reluctant for that to happen and would likely try to get Sewell/Lewis onto CJ. This would create a 2 against 1 in our favour unlike what we would like to see happen (have someone blocking for Judd) which creates that 2 against 1 in their favour.

Only should be tried against teams with a gun mid and good stoppers but does anyone think this may work?

I would take all special comments with a grain of salt. I don't ever remember MM doing anything imaginative in last years Grand Final. Did he try Swan to HBF when he couldn't get into the game? Easy to come up with these sort of ideas when your not held accountable when they fail. The reason Plan b is not plan a is because it is generally not as good. If Judd can't get into the game it is unikely that Ellard will be able to.

Interesting because others that were under contract are being paid out whilst Barker under contract survives. Maybe the club have vouched for him and consider our forward issues to not be his fault?

As for who MM brings in, he lives and dies by his selections. The problem is, if any of them are just taking up space and money, we won't know for a couple of years that this has been a mistake.

Glen Jackovich was the greatest defender of his time by miles. Pretty sure he would have a lot to teach the guys in Carlton's current backline.

Seems to be bringing in a lot of (rumoured) inexperienced people though, and pushing out quite a few with experience, i understand we need change, and the new coach will want to pick his assistants, but i think the club are just too much in the MM basket and don't like the way they've done it ......very expensive process all this.

I'd like the club to get a good experienced assistant under Malthouse to replace Richo, not just people that won't pose a threat to Micks job.

*i think the club are wrong in keeping Barker. i wasn't happy when we originally got him and i haven't seen anything to change that....but thats just my opinion.
