Yes Pagan was a bad choice, but we did lose our 2 first rnd DP's for 100 years

That doesn't excuse Pagan's disastrous recycle policy. He deliberately targeted recycled hacks in deference to taking a punt on kids. French was a good servant and Scotland has proven his worth. The rest.

Having recruited well in 2002 (Kade Simpson and Brad Fisher), he totally went off the rails in 2003 (Scotland and Carrazzo the exceptions) - David Clarke, Daniel Harford, Brett Johnson, Digby Morell, David Teague, Corey McGrath, Ricky Mott, Jordan Bannister, Glen Bowyer.

Thereby missing out on the likes of Ben Hudson, Andrew Raines, Mike Rischitelli, Shane Tuck, Michael Johnson and Jacob Surjan (main draft) and Aaron Davey, Nathan Foley, Paul Duffield, Nathan Lovett Murray, Josh Drummond (rookie draft).

Wait and see but there are peoPle on the board who want Roos and they are the ones who tend to get there way.

Absolutely no chance. If that was the case (knowing Roos has said he wouldnt coach next year due to his son being in year 12) they would have let ratts serve out his contract and played for roos this time next year. would make no sense in sacking ratten now if that were the case.

I believe it was jeanne pratt that was the roos fan btw. She was also a fan of keeping fev, so im sure while her opinions are heard, there wouldnt be too much come out of it.

All pure speculation of course. Just my 2c worth

We don't. But if we could him for a decent price why not?
I think what Collingwood are offering is entirely decent.

Paying Cloke $250K a year more than he's worth for 5 seasons buys into the mythology that Mick and Trav will magically win us a flag.

We didn't have picks until the second rnd for 2 years.

Agreed - Traded out the pick in 2001 for McKernan & sanctioned from picks in 2002. But, my point was that I believe we wasted far too many picks from 2001-2005 on old players that weren't going to be around for the long haul. We bottomed out at a similar time to Geelong & Hawthorn, yet they were able to rebuild far quicker. I understand hindsight is a great thing and they were able to draft super talents...I just believe we should have held on to far more of those picks than we did.

I've said it before, the issue with the pies is not about $$ just time. I think he will stay with them, but it couldn't hurt having him in the fwd line for us.

Dennis Pagan was a scapegoat. He walked into a club with poor facilities and no money to spend on the football department. He took on a list that was the worst the club had ever had and one of the worst lists seen at an AFL club. Most of Carlton's leaders had just retired and there were no good youth players coming through. Player development had been neglected for years. The club was strugling to survive and was a shambles off field. On top of all this the club had their early draft picks removed so rebuilding was impossible. Their recruiting department was pathetic so gaining quality was very hard. Carlton had to draft rejects, they didn't have the options, if they didn't do what they did they would have been losing by 100 points every week.

Pagan needed 10 years to achieve anything with what he had and he never got it. In hindsight Pagan was probably a better fit for a club in a position like where we are now, a strong list capable of finishing top 4 which I believe we are. Not a long term rebuilding project that would be better taken up by a younger coach, which it was in Ratten.

If Malthouse takes up the job he walks into a club with a very good relatively young list, decent recruiters, decent youth coming through, top class facilities, decent off field power and a club that is and should be looking to compete for the premiership.

There is no comparison to the Malthouse situation compared to the Pagan situation.

thats fair enough, but what i'm referring to is the way he recruited as bunch of no ones who clogged the list when we could have recruited in the draft to set up for the future, to me that was all about pagan trying to be the master coach and it back fired badly. Im just saying this better work, west coast finished last with alot of injuries finals next year, geelong where going to sack thompson flag next year, maybe we should have backed ratten in.

What happens if Mick says he doesn't want the gig? All reports are that Roos doesn't want to coach again (at least this year) either. I'm predicting that there are still a few major turn of events in store.

Absolutely 100% spot on.

Do we still hate Christi Malthouse now her dad no longer coaches Collingwood? :p

He has to say that after his shenanagins of late, ie "now or never" etc etc after saying he didn't want to shaft Ratts.

Swann has dinner with him every week. Do you think all they discuss is what a dickhead Eddie McGuire is?
Reckon it'd still take up most of the discussion :p

Malthouse is worried about his wife's feelings according to today's news. I am worried about Malthouses' wife's feelings too. We should all be worried about Malthouse's wifes feelings - apparently she is the 'victim' here according to Micky Milkshake Malthouse. Maybe J PRATT can invite Mrs Malthouse in for a nice cup of tea a BEX and lie down. I reckon Swann and Malthouse in their weekly dinners talk abotu Mrs Malthouses' "feelings" a lot.

I have never read such bullshit tripe in years - if this Muppet comes to Carlton - strap yourselves in for the Micky Milkshake Show.

Choco is a better Coach than Malthouse AND Roos - FACT.
