The more I think about MM the more I am worried about it not being the right decision if he is signed.

If MM is mainly looking to coach out of anger over his Collingwood days then that anger only lasts so long.

If he is so keen to coach again why offer him more than $800K, he seems set for life and like anger, if money is a motivating factor then it wont last long.

If MM is signed I will back him & the club, but I do wonder if a Scott Burns who has had time under MM & Worsfold might be worth talking too - even though its hard to fathom sacking Ratts for an untried head coach.

He is renowned for showing his assistant coaches the door as soon as they accept senior positions elsewhere. I would be pretty disappointed in the Blues if they sign him next week and then accept him as a part time employee for 4 weeks.

Malthouse would certainly have the nous to ensure the contract was structured in his favour as much as possible, especially as he now knows he is dealing with a club that can't be trusted to see out the term of a contract.

Considering Malthouse has cut and run from his last 2 coaching contracts I would hope that Carlton would be as diligent as he is.

with the best training centre (eddies words) in the world... if they gave out almost cups mick would be a great coach getting teams to the finals... bit like on a saturday night ,you chat up a hot girl she seems keen then finds someone on the way out of the pub ..other clubs are getting unproven coachs in so nothing wrong with un tested coachs...all hype pagan like

I don't know about the truth of this claim, but I think they downgraded their pick in the belief they would still get their man, only to miss out.

In the end, they didn't get Lewis who is obviously a better footballer than Egan. And would be in their side ahead of Blair or Macaffer.

Whilst I'm not a full bottle on the machinations that took place re the draft picks I do know that the main reason that Egan ended up on their list was at the behest of one Eddie Mc.
BTW I share your views re MM being your next coach.

of Scotland? Didn't get along when he played under him. He might see it as the perfect time to move on. Hope not.

How is it the perfect time for Scotto to move on?!? He's playing fantastic, consistent football. One of the FEW players doing so.

I highly doubt Malthouse would move him on because of a personality conflict.

Admittedly they were lucky to finish 4th in 2002 with 13 wins, 9 losses (1 and a half less wins than Ratten got last year when we finished 5th, and the exact same number of wins Ratten coached us to in 2009 when we finished 7th) and were lucky in that they played an injury ravaged Adelaide (at the MCG), and faced an epic choke from Port to get there (who choked again the following year letting the Pies into the GF).

Would be very surprised if the club didn't give him another year, though from what we have seen, the club doesn't always give the same respect it receives. Scotto came here when the times were tough, battled on and is playing some great footy. Even last Saturday he was one of about 3 or 4 that actually busted a gut. Future coach of Carlton. Heard it here first.

We all love Ratten, but please give the new coach a chance and embrace him as one of our own. People need to stop talking nonsense about not renewing memberships etc: as well. Clubs change coaches and players all the time.

Just as some had trouble accepting that Ratts was going to get the bullet (after investing too many words to the contrary) maybe those pushing a campaign against MM should save themselves some pain by staying mum for a while
