If you assume that everything being said by Malthouse, the Club at the moment is just a game/rouse and a bit of fun to confuse the media, might make it easier for you all to swallow.

why would Malthouse have twisted the knife on Monday ("it's now or never") if his signing was a done deal?

^^^^^^
That seems like a good point but I do not really care - if you are suggesting he did it to get our gig, well I am glad he is that eager.

The comments MM made about coming home to his distraught wife have me wondering if he will change his mind. He has often said his family come first, and good on him for that. If his wife is crying because of negative media when he's not coaching, can't imagine what will happen if he's in the drivers seat & we have a bad loss.
I know absolutely everything points to MM, but this latest development......hmmmm. If MM does pull the pin, is it "Come on down Choco"?

Maybe try thinking to yourself - is MM a worse coach than Ratts.

Will Mick Malthouse be the man to take us into the future? I and many others have serious doubts.

Aside from Sheedy, only 1 other coach in the AFL is over 45yo.

Say what you like about Eddie's 'incestuous' relationship with Bucks but the succession plan was there - the time to pension Mick off was clear.

You clearly have WORLDS more respect for Eddie's football knowledge than I do

I think Eddie is an excellent business man, but he clearly has not much football knowledge. The decision to move on to FIGJAM looks to be haunting them this year, as they lack the discipline of past years.

Who said anything about Ratten being a better coach than Malthouse?

Our board, President and CEO appointed Ratten for two years before doing a back flip and sacking him.

Why should we take their judgement on face value and accept Malthouse without putting them through the wringer?

They're poor leaders.

An operator as canny as McGuire wouldn't sack a coach who was still up to it.

Perhaps we should consider that Malthouse is a great manager of people. Malthouse's brand has attracted the best assistant coaches Collingwood's could buy. Ratten couldn't attract the same people to work with him. Their success isn't all about Mick, rather than the work Hine, Walsh, Pert, McGuire, Mick, Neeld, Buckley, Watters, Lappin, etc. did for the Pies as a team.

Ultimately, Malthouse will only be as good as the assistants and staff our money can buy for him.

We all love Ratten, but please give the new coach a chance and embrace him as one of our own. People need to stop talking nonsense about not renewing memberships etc: as well. Clubs change coaches and players all the time.

Well no. Takes a while to embrace somebody as 'one of our own'.

I'll sit back and let him do his job as a professional coach, as I did with Pagan. Pagan's leap killed Brittain but Brittain was low profile and anybody may have killed him after our first wooden spoon. Mick's public musings about coaching hunger have killed a true Carlton person after what may have been a one season year from hell.

Will Mick have passion for our club, our history, our supporters, the moment he signs on the dotted line? No. Will he have passion and professionalism towards his role? You'd think so.

That's where he sits until we hear more from him, until he grows into the place. Parkin was 'that Hawthorn bloke' when he first came to the club. Luckily he had a gun side behind him and we won two flags immediately. Quickly accepted into the fold after that.

We all know one thing though. Mick has put his reputation on the line here. We are not too accepting of outsiders coming into the joint and stinking up the place.

Well he got rid of his premiership coach who was as good as anybody just so he wouldn't lose his love child in Buckley so that knocks that statement on the head.

Which statement does that knock on the head? o_O

The Malthouse saga arguably cost them the 2011 flag with off field matters providing a distraction similar to the Ablett and Thompson fallout from two years ago. That was all Mick after he signed on to the deal, but then didn't go through with it.

Do you really think Eddie would give the job to Buckley if he couldn't coach?

You're still a Ratten hater because he got rid of that flog Fevola.

Eddie didn't want to lose Buckley under ANY circumstances and wanted Mallthouse to oversee him in the first few years for him to learn the trade.....thought that was obvious but obviously not to some.

I've never hated Ratten, he's a Carlton legend through and through but his time was up unfortunately.

Ratten wasn't responsible for Fevola's departure....again thought that was common knowledge but obviously not for some.

Now that Carrazzo is one of our best best players do you still maintain that he shouldn't be getting a game ?????

No, they only lost to 1 team in 2011. That's not because of Mick's blabbering, it's because Chris Scott came to Geelong and revitalised their playing group and put together a game plan that worked against Mick's. Probably wouldn't have worked with any other team at the time, but the Cats had the talent, discipline and hunger to make it happen.

What the hell would Eddie have known about Buckley's senior coaching abilities at the time of making the Malthouse deal?

The truth is he didn't want Buckley to wear other colours than black and white and lead a team to victory against Collingwood. Buckley was looking to become a senior coach and iinm would've been given the job at Norf so he had to come up with a plan that would entice Buckley to stay with the Pies with the guartantee that he will take over.

You're still a Ratten hater because he got rid of that flog Fevola.

imo, it was Fevola who got rid of Fevola.

Seems like MM is already in the gun here and his not even our coach yet.
Going to be a fun 3 years ahead.

Disagree. You can only win if you're all on the same page and focussed.

If Scott outcoached Mick, what does that say about our likely million dollar signing?

Cats weren't focussed in 2010 with Ablett gone, the media obsessed with it and Thompson not pulling any punches in regards to Ablett. They clearly took their eyes off the ball after they won the flag without Ablett.

Collingwood wouldn't put a spud in there under the leadership of McGuire, Pert and Walsh who have turned them into a force on and off the field.

Am a little impressed that Sellers would tap Sticks on the shoulder. Couldn't have been very easy. Some of the younger people might not realise that Sellers actually played with sticks for a few seasons.

RE: Mathieson and Lofts, yeah, I see your point. They don't come across as people who passively sit around. I guess though, you have in your mind the shit loads of $$$ they supposedly bring in? I'd actually love to know the extent of their donations.

I dont know about Lofts but Mathieson has turned Carlton into one of the biggest players (top 10 organisations) in the pokies industry. Carlton now has over 300 pokie machines. A lot of these pokie machines are worth over $30,000 but Mathieson was able to secure them for us for $9,000 each. Caroline Wilson expects us to earn about 4.5 million a year from this, but I think that is pretty conservitive when the average pokie machine earns about $150,000 a year and we have 300 of them.

I hope TG and friends will be able to move on soon. Maybe try thinking to yourself - is MM a worse coach than Ratts.
Just as some had trouble accepting that Ratts was going to get the bullet (after investing too many words to the contrary) maybe those pushing a campaign against MM should save themselves some pain by staying mum for a while

I hope so. but i doubt it. He is unfairly being blamed and he hasn't even agreed to join.

And maybe those of us who are railing against the club getting MM are just doing it to piss off those 'supporters' who have been knifing Ratts for the past 5 years.

If we get MM and if he doesnt come in and win 23 games in the H&A season and every game in the finals and bring home #17... I want him sacked because he is useless. If he has an injury wracked season like we have just endured and doesnt win #17... I want him sacked because he doesnt have a plan B...

Isnt that how it works? Now hop on your tricycle and trundle off into the sunset.

PS: just for the sake of arguments... I support the club and their decisions. if they appoint MM, I will support their decision and I will continue to back the appointed coach because he is working for Carlton.

Don't worry. Mick is the king of shit talking. He wants a wedge in contract negotiations so we give him more $$$.

He is desperate to coach again.

If anyone thinks this is anything but posturing then I'm afraid MM is going to drive you mad throughout the next few seasons: he says nothing of substance. Ever. But he's a great coach.

How is it the perfect time for Scotto to move on?!? He's playing fantastic, consistent football. One of the FEW players doing so.

I highly doubt Malthouse would move him on because of a personality conflict.
I was suggesting Scotland might retire so he didn't have to play under Malthouse. I know it's very unlikely and pretty petty but just a thought.

True players and coaches change, bit raw still.

However....I have some Colingwood customers, one stomps in today, "so what can't you guys think for yourselves"....

So the pie folk don't like it already.
