I was suggesting Scotland might retire so he didn't have to play under Malthouse. I know it's very unlikely and pretty petty but just a thought.
I would hate it if I wasn't getting on with my boss, left to work for someone else, then one day my old boss pops up in charge again. The only real difference is you are getting paid a lot more money to put up with that stuff. If you were one year away from retirement, you may decide the stress is not worth it.

Heath Scotland is a true professional. He will work with whoever is our coach. He has been our best and consitant player this year. If he does decide to retire this year. He would go with our thanks.

Cant help but add, he is a good example of getting someone from the filth and making them even better.

Malthouse is worried about his wife's feelings according to today's news. I am worried about Malthouses' wife's feelings too. We should all be worried about Malthouse's wifes feelings - apparently she is the 'victim' here according to Micky Milkshake Malthouse. Maybe J PRATT can invite Mrs Malthouse in for a nice cup of tea a BEX and lie down. I reckon Swann and Malthouse in their weekly dinners talk abotu Mrs Malthouses' "feelings" a lot.

I have never read such bullshit tripe in years - if this Muppet comes to Carlton - strap yourselves in for the Micky Milkshake Show.

Choco is a better Coach than Malthouse AND Roos - FACT.

Opinion, not fact.

So what are everyone's thoughts on the absolute latest we need to have a coach at the club.
My feeling is as soon as possible. We're a month away from trade week and I'd like to see the new coach in there assessing the list, setting up the coaching dept and planning the preseason. I could be wrong but sometime in October seems like a late start.

Yes. We aren't going to be in the finals, but I am not sure when everyone goes on vacation. You'd think a new coach would have to get in there, review tapes, talk to any assistants they are keeping, talk to players and find out who is going to be cut.

I seem to remember when Pagan came to the club, that he had to basically take the advice of the assistants because he wouldn't have a club who to cut or not. I'd hate for Malthouse to be making the wrong cuts based on the few games he has watched of ours this year, and based on having not even watched the VFL.

The sooner the better. If indeed it is MM, I suspect there will be some stage management in the timing.

The board sacked Ratten because they were impatient for premiership success. But the worst thing a new coach can do is listen to any sycophant at the club telling him that the current list is good enough to make the top 4, let alone a premiership.

48 players on the list (including rookies). Expect a quarter to disappear.

You misunderstood. I hope he doesn't make cuts based on a few games he has seen. He will need to talk to people and he will need to be at the club early enough to review tapes and talk to players.

You think 12 players will be cut? Teams barely do that if they finish in the cellar. If he did do that, he can go and get ****ed. It would be reactionary and stupid, sight unseen.

Hi Peter!

Malthouse musings have fans divided
The volume of musings on bigfooty.com yesterday demanded that the ''Mick Malthouse thread'' was upgraded to ''mega-thread''. Opinion ranged from threats not to renew Carlton memberships if the 2010 Collingwood premiership coach gets the nod, to endorsement of Malthouse as exactly the coach the club needs.

''Nice way to endear yourself to the supporter base by bagging a Carlton legend and premiership coach,'' one poster offered of Malthouse's response to Age columnist Robert Walls questioning whether he was the right man for the job. Underscoring that the clubs will forever be enemies, the Blues fan added of Walls: ''He might be a bastard, but he's our bastard.''

We all love Ratten, but please give the new coach a chance and embrace him as one of our own. People need to stop talking nonsense about not renewing memberships etc: as well. Clubs change coaches and players all the time.

Mr Kennedy................... Kennedy.

lol i could not agree more.

Interesting. I await posters worried that some supporters are upsetting the apple cart before MM is signed. Then again, it is proof positive that the media do report on our opinions, and it is entirely likely that the systematic dismantling of Ratten on this boards, assisted in his removal.
Think that honour goes to Robin Hood and the Merry Men who post on Talking Carlton.

FWIW, I do love Caro.

You too Emma and Sam.

Haha, smooth.

If Julian De Stoop is reading, I just want to say 'BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPPPPP'

Disagree. You can only win if you're all on the same page and focussed.

So let me ask you this, you think we don't need a guy like Mick because he selfishly derailed the Pies season in 2011 amongst other reasons. So why do you want Cloke who has clearly derailed the Pies season this year?

If Scott outcoached Mick, what does that say about our likely million dollar signing?

Not anything good that's for sure, that's why I don't want us to do it.

Cats weren't focussed in 2010 with Ablett gone, the media obsessed with it and Thompson not pulling any punches in regards to Ablett. They clearly took their eyes off the ball after they won the flag without Ablett.

And so credit to Chris Scott for making them get focussed again instead of thinking their chances were worse without Ablett, they had belief that the could still do it, and they did.

Collingwood wouldn't put a spud in there under the leadership of McGuire, Pert and Walsh who have turned them into a force on and off the field.

Not saying Buckley's a spud, just saying Eddie did not want him coaching another club. The thought of a Collingwood champion devising tactics to beat his beloved Pies was a senario that Eddie wanted to avoid.

Carter, Heyne and the 2 NSW rookie kids, Bower, Thornton, Davies, Kerr, Russell (free agent). Trade at least 1 player to further relieve cap space for Cloke. If Malthouse can't get along with Scotland, he'll be asked politely to retire. That's a dozen.

That's 11 and you are trading an as yet unnamed player to get to that number. How deep does this draft go?

We've also had posters screaming about Thornton's non-selection this year. Is Malthouse going to delist everybody that Ratten didn't play? Surely there are players in every club that are reinvented when a new coach comes on board?

Btw TheGeneral, didn't realise it was you being quoted in that article. You'll keep, Mick's retribution may be slow but his ox is patient.

oops, sorry, I can't count at this hour.

But you get my point. A new coach might easily scrap a few more unlucky ones such as White, O'Keeffe or Collins.
But what is he basing it on? You say he shouldn't be listening to the assistant coaches and he is unlikely to have watched all of our senior games, let alone any of our VFL games. It's the most uncertain time, when a new coach comes in. He isn't yet one of us, but he is about to do some damage. I hope he minimises the damage and evaluates the list for a year. We have been accused of poor development. I'd hate to cut certain players that still have something to offer.

I didn't even get one thumbs up. :(

I'll just troll Mick on Twitter to get my vengeance. ;)

I shudder at the thought of what Mick will cop from the Twitter haters after a loss. Charlotte Dawson might have to share her hospital room with Mclean and Malthouse.

He won't get rid of players that he doesn't know much about. I think he'll use the first year to see what he's got to work with, and then decide who he should chop or not.

Now given guys like Thornton and Russell have been around a while they may be the unlucky ones.

FWIW he won't be getting rid of 11 players. I would get rid of Davies, Russell (try and trade first), Lucas (trade only), Warnock (trade only), Bower, Collins and Kerr. I'd also try and shop Gibbs around and only if we get offered an early first round pick, I'd trade him, otherwise I'd keep him. I know it's an unpopular call to shop him around and if you disagree with me, take solace in the fact that I don't run things at Carlton and it most likely won't happen anyway.

Sorry, I wasn't meaning he shouldn't listen to assistant coaches (most of them worked with him at Collingwood anyway ;)). I was meaning these 'faceless men' on the board that tell him 'good on you Mick here's $1m, go and win us a premiership'.

But I would think the assistants would sit down with the new coach and explain some odd decisions at selection such as why we decided to favour youth instead of emu, rusty and t-bird, why kerr couldn't get a game in 3 years, why ellard was out of favour, what happened to Lucas etc.

Even so, I don't discount damage in the first year. 'Ruthless' was a word used during the week when sacking Ratts; the same may apply to the playing list.
