Currently there are only 4 coaches in the AFL who have Coached Premiership sides, if we appoint MM that will be 5 coaches, now that we have moved Ratten on we have to replace him with a guy who can deliver us a Premiership, MM can do that and as Leigh Matthews said Carlton is a Plum Job. Most of our list will be ready to go when Pre Season begins which will also be a bonus. Carlton Supporters have to put there Full Support behind MM and hope that he can deliver 17 before to long. While i feel sad that Ratts has gone im sure if MM delivers us a Premiership in the next year or 2 i will quickly get over Ratts being Sacked..

Williams is apparently not happy and could leave GWS.

Williams is believed to have been unhappy in Western Sydney and has already begun discussions about moving his family back to Melbourne.
Tigers are leading the charge, but if our senior position is available it's hard to see him knocking it back. We may have a real contender other than Malthouse afterall...

Yeh I notice that BRIB
Today in The Age, "Malthouse musings have fans divided" referring to Carton Big Footy,

Quoting a poster at the end of the article

''Nice way to endear yourself to the supporter base by bagging a Carlton legend and premiership coach,'' one poster offered of Malthouse's response to Age columnist Robert Walls questioning whether he was the right man for the job. Underscoring that the clubs will forever be enemies, the Blues fan added of Walls: ''He might be a bastard, but he's our bastard.

Go back a page or so. TheGeneral never sleeps. He was on to this via mental telepathy, especially as he was the one quoted.

If the club doesnt land Malthouse let's be frank sticks and swann must both be removed
**** off... you've already had your pound of flesh...

If we dont get Malthouse, it's because the board decided there was a better option out there... but then again... they may just be trolling you considering how much you bitch and moan and they dont want you to be bored!

Go General :thumbsu::)

We're either really shopping for a new coach or just setting out to look as though we are.
Not too many we've missed talking to. This is far from a walk up start for Malthouse unless we're just trying to bring his price down.
You can expect to hear a few surprising names pop up in the next few days. Very surprising names.
Suspect there is a little bit of trickery going on down Visy Park way.

Malthouse will sign for 3 years. He will get the very best out of the players,i worked with Mick he's strength is man management which was one of Ratts downfall there's going to be few player's in for rude awakeing.

We know he wants to crane6, but why are we still shopping around?
Not sure Mick would be too happy to have an agreement-in-principle signed, yet we're still trying to cover bases.

Malthouse/Choco combination wouldn't be the worst we could do.

Have no doubt MM will be appointed. Just some clever posturing going on at present I reckon to make this "process" look as legitimate as possible. In fact wouldn't be surprised to see him over the line by the end of next week.

And yes with his hard nosed approach there will be some players in for a shock and some casualties.

He's never been a fan of playing 2 recognized rucks either - generally opts for the 1 specialist ruck and 1 forward/rotating ruck (ala Leigh Brown).

That being the case surely one of either Hampson or Warnock will not be there in 2013?

I agree with BRIB.

If we don't get a name coach after this, then Kernahan, the board and Swann will be under the pump after sacking the coach they re-appointed for years. They can't sack an experienced coach and bring in a green coach such as Scott Burns who will need a new team of assistants. Harder to see a new coach attracting as many wannabe coaches as Malthouse, Roos, Thompson, Worsfold, Williams, etc. They're not going to prise these premiership coaches way from their clubs.

Robinson just mentioned it on SEN and it's obvious that we need profile to attract members.

We missed our target of 50K and had have we just rolled on status quo next year, we would have more likely gone backwards whilst other clubs are going forward.
This is just as much about image and perception as much as it is about content, without question.

This.

Business 101 - never sack an experienced coach without having a sure fire replacement who blind Freddy can believe is an upgrade.

That's because he has never had one recognised ruck let alone 2 on the same list at once. It drove Collingwood people mad for years that we neglected the ruck position for almost a decade until Darren Jolly fell into our laps at the end of 2009.

Will be interesting to see what he does with 3 recognised ruckmen on Carlton's list in Kreuzer, Warnock and Hampson.

Why is Choco a nutter? What is the definition of 'nutter'?

I would appreciate some FACTS.

There have only been 44 Premiership winners in the history of the game - he is one. Why isn't he as good as MM or Bomber or Roos? Discussion pleaase - not summary BS.

AND btw - Parko has let the cat out of the bag as far as leadership groups go - 1995 at Carlton HAD one - Geelong HAS one - Carlton - dont make me laugh! The players have dealt themselves out of being taken seriously by anyone. The players haven't been playing for themselves let alone the jumper.

3 #1 draft picks and one developing respectable player in the lot

Carlton has played short term for too many years. Gone the easy short termism for too many years. A President who says the Club s impatient for victory - as IF other teams arent. As if other teams are going to say - wel here you go carlton - here is #17.

What matters is building a team that can contest. A Premiership is an outcome of a process NOT an input into an equation.

Find it very hard 2 believe that MM coaching Carlton isn't done & dusted. I'm a Ratt's fan and don't agree with the sacking, but if MM comes off with a premiership then the board has made the decision that got us 17. And we all want that.

But if 17 doesn't come off then no point having an audit, the Blues better change their culture. We're still acting like it's the 1970 & early 1980s, where $$$$ buys players & premierships. Football's moved on, money sure helps, but with salary cap pressures & draft picks you've got to play smart - Carlton's reaction to disappointment isn't to adapt to the new system and show patience, it's sack the coach, we never stick fat. Sure, the AFL took away draft picks etc, but it's because we couldn't adapt to the new world. And because we don't adapt we look for a scapegoat - we've sacked premiership coaches like Parkin, Walls, we've got rid of Brittain one year after he got us into the finals with an average list, and Ratt's who in five years took us from last to finals three times. Ratt's record has got to be one of the best going round, and anyone who thinks we've got the best list going round hasn't been watching other clubs play.

Probably the three best teams of the last 6 or 7 years, Geelong, Collingwood & Hawthorn, all showed faith in their coaches when things didn't look good (MM had been at the Pies for over a decade). Why? Because they saw the coach could build something with the players they had, they gave the coach time to trail & error game plans until finding the best plan that suited the players they have, or even top-up with borderline players from other clubs (ie. Sydney Swans). The Blues, on the other hand, have one disappointing season and shoot Ratts. The board acts like rich kids who have never had to work hard for anything because it's always given to them, and throw tantrum & sack someone when some hard yards are required. Problem is, as Collingwood, Hawthorn & Geelong have shown, you need to do the hard yards. Our way of doing things has given us 1 premiership since the salary cap come in and the current draft system come in. I hope we get number 17, but if we don't it's our own fault.

Agree that this has been a major factor (perhaps the major factor). Carlton supporters are a fickle lot and selling memberships is as much about selling hope and expectation as anything. I was really glad to have Ratt's bare his nads and state that top 4 was the goal. Would have potentially instilled high expectations and get the membership numbers up too. What is the $$ value of getting Mick and Cloke? MASSIVE and the execs know it. Does it make us a better footy team and within what time frame?
