Let's all just get behind Malthouse

The club took time to realise what many of us have known for two years or so

Which is ratten doesn't have the structures or game style to win us a flag

The beauty of his appointment is one way or the other we will find out if this side can win a flag, mm great strength is extracting the best out of each player and his game structures are always industry leading
Like we all got behind Ratten?

I'll get behind Malthouse 100% once he's in a Navy Blue shirt and signed.

Until then I can't help but tread carefully just in case something else happens...

Ummm... why does this paragraph give me a bit of concern?

Barassi - joined as captain/coach and was hired as coach because Harris was desperate to have him at the club. Took him 4 seasons to win the premiership. Was an inexperienced coach when we hired him.
Stewart - lasted half a season... got the job because he got the Swans into the finals for the first time in 32 years...
Parkin - Apart from Pagan was the only premiership coach we hired from outside the club. Won the flag at Hawthorn.
Walls - was an inexperienced coach when he started at Fitzroy, moved to the Blues as a coach swap with Parkin and got us into the 86 grand final only to lose to the Dawks and in 87 took us all the way. Is a blue blood all the way.
Pagan - an experienced premiership coach who was handed the impossible task thanks to Jack and his brown paper bags. By the time his tenure at the club had finished, he had proved that he was out of touch with the modern game by continuing to try and play a one dimensional forward line and Pagan's paddock.

So out of that list... the club showed great restraint with RDB. We gave him 4 seasons to win the flag. We got in someone who clashed with club favourites and saw other players leaving because of his strict manner.

I think that some of our benefactors still live in the messiah cult because they were the ones, rightly or wrongly, pushed the club into sacking Ratts and trying to get in a 'big name' coach like Malthouse.

Dont get me wrong... I want the club to have success... but I also want the club to plan for serious long term success. Getting in Malthouse on a 3 year contract seriously smacks of our elderly benefactors wanting to see another grand final win before they drop off the perch.

just sayin

Interesting article Dram, and interesting times ahead

Well it's understandable you feel that way, we're talking about a man who's been associated with the Filth for so long and we're only used to him getting around in black and white, Lexus and Adidas gear...

Then there's the fact, regardless of opinion on his coaching, we all love Ratts. It'll take some time to adjust for sure.

Probably take 1 game for everyone to fall in love with Mick ,
Its amazing what a good thrashing of Richmond in round 1 can do for one's spirits !!!

Yep.

Though if we lose...

Cue the threads "SAKC MICK!"

To be frank BRIB, it's a bit much for you to ask this of the forum.
a. Let's wait until it's confirmed.
b. what would your response have been if someone had made a call like this when Ratts started?

For the record, I'll get behind whoever is appointed and then make my judgement of his performance at the END of the season.

It's similar to the Labor voters out there at the moment, Julia and her union cronies have made that many mistakes that there is no way anyone should vote for her at the next election but fear of voting for 'the other mob', even if its the right thing to do, is something that just doesn't feel right for some...

The worst post I've read on Bigfooty for a long long time.

Stomach-churningly bad.

Nup, smashing the Tiges is a given.

When we've won our first three, including touching up the Pies, and then we face the Scum, the test will be if we come to play.
If it's a regulation 12 goal win and then we consistently back up through the following weeks, Malthouse will be embraced.
If the players rock up to the Scum game comatose like they have the previous three years, it will be a case of "Why did we bother?"

Mick gets a two year grace period as any new coach should
Depends what you mean by grace period. As in, no flag is okay grace period, or results don't matter grace period? We have a built side that just needs some polish to go all the way. We don't have a side in need of a rebuild. He is not taking us from 15th with years of abject failure immediately behind us.

Make no mistake, Mick has cherry picked this job and we have cherry picked Mick, and we have done it with a view to get a flag while Juddy is still firing. This grace period is not as locked in as you think. Everyone said that Ratts had done well but could not take us all the way. Mick is there to break through the glass ceiling.

I would expect Malthouse to coach for at least 6 years and if successful I can see no reason why he can't coach beyond.

Agree 100% .. We would be playing finals if not for injuries, suspensions etc etc..
Barring a worse season next year, I would call it a fail if we do not play finals.

Considering we expected top 4 this year but for various reasons fell away, I do not think this year counts as a starting point. The starting point should be where we started the year, expected top 4. If we kept going on our trajectory we would have been top 4 this year, and pushing for a GF next year. With a good injury run, I am expecting us to seriously give top 2 a shake next year. Anything else is saying that we aren't as good as we thought and the expectations on Ratts were unfounded.

Reason 1 of INFINITY of why you're a no brained idiot if you vote for the Liberal Party at the next election;

Even though I like rangas, Julia Gillard is a muppet and the worst PM in the last fifty years. Nearly lost the unloseable election after knifing Rudd. If Julia was Carlton coach, she would have been sent packing earlier than Ratten. The government are a rabble. Anyone who disagrees is biased and has their head in the sand. You shouldn't favour either party.
