This MM thing really has lots of potential.

You have to ask yourself: why is McChins so stressed? He's got a great young coach in Bucks, who has handled himself incredibly well in his first season as coach. Surely, Ed should be grinning from chin to chin.

Two theories:

1. He still thinks Carlton with Mick > Collingwood with Bucks ... but if he really thinks Bucks is best, the only theory for this outrage is...

2. He thinks Carlton with Mick + Cloke > Collingwood with Bucks - Cloke.

Time will tell.

But it's very reassuring that we've caused the Filth such pain this year, and will hopefully continue to do so.

I never understood all of the Ratten hate from some posters here (Big Red comes to mind). He did a pretty good job, taking us to the finals two years in a row, and it would have been a third if we had a healthy team all season. I guess some people just decide that they don't like a bloke and then waffle crap about them, even when it's not true.

As for Malthouse, I agree that chances are that it is already a done deal. They didn't just decide to sack Ratten in the spur of the moment -- they would have been preparing for this for weeks. In that time, you have to think that they would have spoken to their most desirable candidates. I think the only reason that it hasn't been announced yet is out of respect to Ratten, who is a legend of the club. As for Malthouse's media image/presence, I really couldn't give a rats arse. All I care about is what he can do with the club on the field, and he is one of the smartest, most experienced and best coaches in the game today. He's certainly my number 1 choice to take over next year.

Agreed.

Most are commenting on 'what MM is saying' and 'what MM is doing'. In reality it is likely that the Blues already have the deal done and have asked MM to politely deflect questions until the club is ready to announce the appointment to avoid looking bad. The MM 'theatre' paints him in a bad light but he may just be doing so for the sake of the CFC (and his own reputation too no doubt). We'll see how this one plays out. Surely cant wait until October though...this needs to be settled sooner rather than later.

I'm now more interested in seeing the changes that MM implements and more importantly the people he brings with him. Thats a big part of the MM appointment IMO. If he can bring the likes of Burns, Buttifant and perhaps Cloke with him then it would have to be considered a great 'get' by the club.

Blues set to offer MM $3M

He would commence official duties on the Monday after the Grand Final on October 1.

Carlton is believed to have made the call on Saturday, with a meeting scheduled between Malthouse, his manager Peter Sidwell and Blues powerbrokers, including president Stephen Kernahan.

Malthouse, 59, spent the weekend discussing the Carlton job with wife Nannette and his closest friends and family.

The Blues offer will be for a three-year term, costing the club well over $3 million.

An interesting hyperthetical would be who we would take out of Buckley or Malthouse if they were both available? Who do we think is the better coach at this point of time?

Buckley is less experienced than Ratts - really don't understand the premise of the question?

I'd pick Buckley if I was making an amateur movie version of the Incredible Hulk and put Bucks in the lead role.

Well, the words in the latest article seem better. Obviously we have moved on this a while back, so in that case, the only issue is the deception and the various parts played in it. As far as the future, once it is in place, I will fall in behind. I just want Malthouse to respect the club, respect the players, and not hold us to ransom and put himself on a pedestal. We have to much pride for that. All moving sensibly and respectfully in the right direction, taking the time to listen to others, talk to the players, before making his cuts, then all should be okay.

I wouldnt call it 7 minutes of heaven really... more like 30 seconds... maybe a minute if there isnt a mirror in the room

But as TG said... you have to get past Eddie Everywhere first!

Let me guess... Eddie missed training again and has been a very naughty boy

Gets two choice:

a) 2 week suspension
b) 7 minutes of heaven with FIGJAM

And as I posted in some of the earlier debates on here ODN, I wouldn't be getting too upset with the club or MM over the 'deception'. This process would have been a whole lot more distasteful for Ratts if these negotiations were done in public a la the Matthew Knights saga which dragged on for weeks and weeks. As we all know, sometimes in business or politics (and let's face it footys a combination of both) a lot of lobbying and negotiation has to go on behind closed doors.

Eddie keeps sending FIGJAM little messages like 'I'll be in the change rooms at 13:00 covered in maple syrup'

Sticks obviously stuffed it up with his end of season review contention. There was never going to be a review. He should have just said Ratten is the Carlton coach until he isn't and left it at that. Privately he might have prepared Ratts but that obviously did not happen. The thing is Ratten probably would have opted to see out the year and not told anybody, such is the class of the man. Nothing worse than telling someone they still have a chance when no matter what he did, he probably didn't.

One thing is for sure, Sticks certainly put an end to the boy's club accusation.

I guess after they play hide the towel they could play hide the brownlow

Naturally I want him to respect the club etc. and I have no doubt he will, he has where ever he has gone in the past. I just hope he really puts the acid on some players to play near their optimum more often. I'm looking forward to a stronger attack on ball and man on a consistent basis, not the up and down crap we've had served up.

So is anyone confident of an announcement this week?
