However, Mick would appreciate the turn of discussion... seeing as how he was a defender for the Aints and BitchmondCan we discuss Mick and Mick alone in this thread?
Mick's ego will feel lonely if we start discussing who was the best defender.
Cheers.

Think MM posts on BF as JeffDunne with Mick being a former Saints player like Dunne. You should be tagging MM into this thread.

He should have been in the discussions, he'd be just about the first player I'd have at CHB. Carey would probably agree.
look by your own admission you didnt see much of silvagni, so your opinion on this cant really be valid in this argument. Langford is also overlooked in these discussions
Discussion was about defenders.Langford played most of his career at full back whilst Mew took CHB.
If the discussion is about full backs, then Dench has to be in discussions.
There was a bloke by the name of Bruce Doull who went alright. CHB in our 1972, 1979 & 1981 premiership teams & FB in our 1982 premiership team. Named at HB in both the Carlton & AFL Team of the Century, yet played most his football as a KPD. Jakovich wouldn't even be in the same ball park as Doull. From memory the team of the century was announced at the end of 1996 at which time Jakovich had played 3 really good seasons. Some CHB who have Jako covered include the following:
Peter Knights came second in the 76 Brownlow despite missing about 5 games with a broken collar bone and second also in 78.
Paul Roos was a 7 time all australian over a 13 period.
In the 80s it was 6 forwards on 6 backs who pretty much stayed in their half. Roos beat the best CHF's by winning the ball and rebounding off them, while he was loose he was by no means a Nick Maxwell 3rd tall defender. My favourite non Carlton player which is funny given I now can't stand him as a commentator.Roos never real played as a stopper on the key forwards - was very loose and a 3rd man in, rebounder type
not knocking him but lets compare like for like
No doubt he will ensure that Swann & McKay know exactly what to go after during trade month/year/millenium (how ever long it goes for). They will no doubt also be in regular contact with Malthouse during that period. So Mick is starting work just after trade week finishes. Handy that.

I'm guessing things are getting run mostly by Andy McKay at the moment. I get the feeling he was very close to everything that was done football wise this year and has driven a lot of the changes thus far. Fair chance Malthouse and Carlton, particularly McKay are communicating regularly at the moment. I'm sure they would be building a trade week strategy. Surely they will go into trade week knowing what they are willing to give up and who they are going to go after. It's likely Swan, McKay and maybe Kernahan will be our big negotiators come trade week though it would be good to have Mick there but perhaps not overly necessary. So Mick is starting work just after trade week finishes. Handy that.

I wasn't talking about Silvagni just now though, only about my esteem for Jako at his peak. Silvagni would be the first choice for FB, but I think Jako would make a strong case for CHB. McKenna would find a sport in my HBF as well. Of course, I haven't lived long enough to make any real valid argument about team of the century, none of us have really, but I'd be surprised if there were too many players better at that CHB position than Jakovich.

I'm hoping MM brings in Alan Jackovich as goal celebration coach.
Certainly has been a thorough and exhaustive post-season review hasn't it??
We've made one phone call, and tadda, MM is here to save us.
Just sayin'.![]()

He has not taken the reigns at all yet. Nothing announced. As of right this second, he is an outsider.Hahaha love the irony.
All the anti-sack Ratten brigade are ripping on the new coach before he has even fully taken the reigns.
Sound familiar?
Hahaha wow.
