Conspiracy theory time... maybe they are in league with the AFL to kill off all the sitting on the fence supporters love for the club and just leave a die hard core who wouldnt stop supporting the club if we relocated to Tasmania.

It would reduce the number of clubs from Melbourne by 1 and put a club into Tasmania.

While I love the club with all my heart, there is no ******* way known that I will support the Tassie Blues. They can go and get ******!

Sorry about randomly jumping in but I noticed talk about our recovery as a club so I figured I could elaborate on how it went with us.

In a furthering of your analogy, Primus wasn't fantastic but he wasn't the main problem at Port Adelaide. He didn't have proper support (the head coach might be the spokesperson of all coaches but he's only like 1/10th of them) and the people making decisions higher up were stuck in the wrong mindset.

We didn't just replace him, we cleaned out a lot of people from the top down, from staff to assistant coaches to board members and after the cleaning out in 2011-2012 was finished we had a new CEO, President and Coach, a more stable less bare-bones support staff, and a clear vision.

Mick Malthouse might not be running the show perfectly but I don't think kicking him out will solve your primary issues. I don't have a super detailed knowledge of Carlton at the executive level but I do know they recently appointed as CEO someone who Crows fans were desperately trying to get rid of after he brought their credibility into disrepute, so I'd have to imagine that would be a good start for looking at.
Like Port of 2012, major changes are needed in the coaching staff, the board and executives. Like Port there are a number of kids that can become very good players if coached properly. Trigg has only been there five minutes and that Crows fans were not happy with him is probably a tick in my books.:D

Hope you don't mind me intruding. Just thought I'd give you an outsiders perspective...

Firstly I understand the pain as my team is rubbish also so my soap box is pretty low.

MM throwing his players under the bus is horrible to watch. Coming out and saying he is "in awe of GWS talent" and he "just doesn't have the man power" stands out to me as shocking leadership. How do the players feel when they hear their coach attempting to save his own skin game after game by shifting blame on their lack of talent? Hardly a battle cry that rallies the the troops is it.

Even though there may be an element of truth to his words.... How do these words inspire his troops to believe again? Look at the culture he's building with those words!

The "It's not me it's them" attitude from Mick is poor leadership and wreaks of ego and self protection.... These vain attempts to prolong his career is actually shortening it.
He is past being an effective coach and I think Eddy saw the writing on the wall hence installing the Buckley transition plan.

Carlton has sooo much success pride and individual club spirit in its history..... Plus a huge fan base desperately wanting to believe. (I see this when my kids are the only ones wearing lions gurneys at Auskick and navy blue jumpers are everywhere).
In my humble opinion it's time to kick out MM and look back to find your way forward.

I havent been a fan of "havent got the cattle" crap since he started spouting it. Trading off our forward line for various reasons may have been good if our existing forwards could a) kick the damn football straight or b) werent going to be liam friggin jones. We robbed a stable backline of henderson to play him forward. Our best goalkicker of the last three years was inexplicably sent to defense the year after he was the clubs leading goakicker, and is rarely played as a forward even after we got rid of all our forwards.

Whatever his plan for the team was when he took over, he's utterly failed to implement it, and utterly failed to find an alternative play that does work. Ill be shcoked if he sees out the season, but then, the list of decent candidates to replace him isnt exactly huge.

We had an official attendance of just over 16,000 to today's home game.

Factor in the shitty stadium deal we have and we would be lucky to not have lost money by playing today.

MM and his coaching panel have totally destroyed any enthusiasm us Carlton supporters have been hanging on to.

Did you see today the amount of times we just kicked backwards and sideways without having any idea of how to move the ball forward. Even worse, when we do eventually decide to kick forward, we kick it straight to opposition players and it come back even faster than we kicked it.
MM has to go, otherwise this club will officially fold, we cannot continue to lose attendance and supporters just to keep an old fart in a high pying job.
True was thinking the same , a lot of stats without going forward

Mick Was never the right man for the job, but everyone involved in the decisions' egos would not allow them to see that. If anything the move smacked of trying to stick it up Collingwood.

I'm never one for giving the coach the arse mid stream, but in this case it has to happen. Leaving Mick there any longer is only going to sink the cub further into the mire.

Brilliant, brilliant post. It doesn't take much to see the self indulgence of the man. He's been finger pointing everywhere but himself since he got to the club. Time to be a man and step down for the good of the club.

Geeez. I just watched the pressers. Mick looks awful. How he can inspire his players in current mindset, I've no idea.

Surely the board needs to make a decision NOW. Extend the contract (on less dollars and with a view to better support around him), or terminate.
September Action ... I suspect we won't be seeing you for a while.

I've always back Malthouse I thought he would be what this club needed to bring the best out in younger players.. But enough is enough he is still coaching as if the game was played in the early 2000s. We have 3-4 players doing run with roles a week and we bring the ball back down the ground the longest way possible around the boundary! How does he expect to win games defending them you need to attack! If watching teams like hawthorn and Geelong over the last few years they take the shortest possible way to goals, through the centre of the ground and when they get the footy they are going moving the ball quick. You don't have to be a side full of quick runners to make the footy look fast

Your a joke malhouse, the press in the after game interview bring up your inept game plan and how the fans were booing it, and its its the players fault for being robotic!!!! You have taught them to be robotic mate, and your game plan sucks. Its always everyone elses fault couldnt possibly be yours.

Yeah that robotic statement suggesting he preferred them to play on instead of chipping the ball around seems a bit strange. There was nobody to go up the line to and the backline were under siege. No confidence in each other. I'm sure these players practice switching the play if the occasion calls for it.

The funny thing is the one player who is hard wired to break the lines and move the ball forward regardless of how much pressure we are under was dropped ... Dylan Buckley.

This couldn't be closer to the truth. The man is as egocentric as anyone in the game. Notice there are a lot of Pies supporters posting and just wanted to say from my POV, I still care about what happens to our Premiership coach, hence the posting, but there is seriously a jumping onto Collingwood 2010 from Carlton, and the facts have shown, maybe you should have been looking to poach Hawthorn talent and staff. Maybe the stars aligned in 2010, but we still weren't the best team at the time.

As evidenced by 2011, Mick is not a team player. I'm certain he cares about the people he works with, he just cares about his reputation and status more. I mean this is a man who has a wall sized portrait of his own face in his study...

MLG is a businessman right?

Well if so he will know fiscal prudence dictates a new coach is needed now, or a contract extension though the latter seems insane given the way we are playing

Crowds are getting lower and the risk is corporates will vacate so a change is just about a necessity I would have thought else we are running the business into the ground

But of course a new coach could extract wins which would blow the low pick focus which I think is obvious isn't it?!

Maybe MLG is prepared to cop a financial hiding this year and it is the cost of getting a top pick but gees its just one pick isn't it?!

That was a training drill for GWS , one team knows how to play modern football and has skill and enthusiasm and belief and the other was devoid of all those things

As spiritless as I have seen us ever play it was

Couldn't agree more with all the posts slamming Mick about blaming the players lack of talent. I played footy at a regional club for about 15 years, the first 6 or 7 years was horrible with a series of coaches there for the money and negative game plans as we were not good enough so we tried to limit the damage. One day in walked a coach who told us to believe in ourselves and more importantly, each other. He only brought with him a full forward and a tough midfielder, an enforcer, the rest of the side was pretty much the same as the previous few years. Lost the first game by 10 goals, but he encouraged us to keep backing ourselves we got better and went on to win the premiership, all due to belief and with belief came the desire to do the hard work and to try new things. Most importantly it changed the culture of the club from a rabble that went out to minimise the damage to one that would give it a red hot crack. The coach left the next year but the club went on to play in 11 grand finals over the next 15 years winning 6 of them.
I know this is a long way from afl level but I feel the principles are the same.

It all started with belief, not a chequebook and a cleanout of players, we couldn't afford that, and a willingness to get knocked down a few times in order to learn. If our current coach doesn't think he can win games with the players he has, some of whom he recruited than lets find a coach who thinks he can, after all you don't get to play at afl level if you are a spud and while some of our players may have deficiencies lets work on them. Casboult could be a star, lets turn him into one, Yarran, Walker and Buckley love to attack and break the lines, encourage that don't stifle that, we won the "Bryce Gibbs Cup" because he was seen as a future star, he can still be that.

C'mon Mick what you are doing isn't working, go for broke and make the footy entertaining and let the kids have their heads. We will get smacked sometimes but make the footy enjoyable for them and this club a club they want to play at.

Sorry about the length of this post but I do feel better:)

Up until now I've tried to follow and believe in Mick. The time has come where I just can't anymore. Watching his presser yesterday was horrible and I think it gives a pretty good insight into what the players are having to deal with.

I'm one for giving things a fair go but I think Mick's time has come. It pains me to think he's getting paid stupid amounts but giving the club heartache in return. I know its the 22 players out on the field that affect the result but it's plain to see that something is very wrong within the club.

I'd rather see us take on the game through the corridor and lose by 78 than play how we are playing now and still lose by 78.
Is it sad that i'm already looking forward to the draft?
Mick has to go.

Mick himself wouldn't be surprised if he got sacked. He has hinted as much. Question is would people be happy with Barker being a caretaker?. We all know Laidley won't do it. Maybe we just need to come out and say that Micks contract won't be renewed and get on with the business of finding the next coach. Conduct interviews Without having to sneak around.

Sitting here this morning listening to Micks Presser. He has spent the last 2 minutes talking about how good GWS are and how curnow did a good job on Smith and he played Ellard as a tagger.
What a ******* Joke. Get rid of him now.
I dont want to switch on every presser from him and hear about "How good of a Football side .... Are"
