As much as I'd like the big lug JW at CHB I hang my hat on the fact J. Selwood went pick 7 and he's probably in the top 20 players I've ever seen. Pick 1 is too fraught with over publicized controversy and chance.

I have no doubt if we sacked MM and gave the reigns to one of the assistants we would get an improvement that would enable us to win a handful of games, if we continue as we are then we wont win again in 2015. we are a much better side on paper than Stkilda, Brisbane, Melbourne and even the dogs yet we are playing the worst football of anyteam by a long way.
Bulldogs list is much better than ours.

No we're not better on paper because they have more youth coming through and more effort in their sides. Hard work is an attribute and we have precious little.

Personally, if we get more wins and free up the players minds and motivation a little bit, it will have a greater effect on our psyche than a #1 draft pick. We can't go the rest of the season with supporters bailing and players psychologically wondering if they should leave or if they are good enough.
I agree in terms of a developing list we are behind those teams, but side by side our best 22 is way better than those teams i listed...... however our effort and coaching is the worst by a long way.

Wondering how much more of this the club can withstand .
Next 2 games are away games , Geelong and Sydney in Sydney ... 2 losses .
Our next home game is then Adelaide , another loss in front of what will surely be a next to nothing crowd (interstate opponent) will see us to the bye at 1 and 9 !!
Surely that is when the club will make the move , to continue on down this road after that point may push things past the point of no return ...

Re: Robotic players

Can't complain when you get rid of our players with flair and to replace them u bring in a half cripple who can't kick it more than 30 M.

Waite, Garlett and most of all Betts.

SO OVER MM's complaining, it's his team now he made it what it is, take some responsibility.

M-LG needs to inform MM that at the end of the year is it. Stack Match Committee with someone with the future in mind and if MM doesn't like it he can quit.

There's nothing to gain by sacking the coach now, what is the point, other than to appease the masses.

Let him finish the year & go from there
What is there to gain by letting him stay?

If we sack him at least the players get to hear a new message, and the new coach might play the kids. FfS bringing in Ellard to play as the sub was a disgrace.

Yes they have more youth coming through, but not by the margin most people think. If our youth were given more opportunities in a side with a cohesive game plan and better on-field leadership then people would start to see that.

We saw from this week vs last week that it makes very little difference to the result whether we play the kids or more experienced players, so let's play some of the kids who at least have a chance of developing and getting better. Guys like Ellard are a known quantity, we know their best and we know they are not going to suddenly surprise us by getting better. Guys like Graham, Boekhorst, Buckley, even Holman and Walsh well there's plenty of opportunity to be pleasantly surprised there.

That could actually give our other players and our supporters some hope moving forward, which as you correctly pointed out is worth far more than pick #1 vs say 4 or 5.

I respectfully disagree
The players minds are shot and we haven't even played the Hawks, freo, Sydney or port.

Could they handle consecutive 100 beltings, because come July when the players are really really shot that's what will be serving up!

This my friends will be to the detriment of the club, the culture and mind set of the playing group.

Move the coach. 2016 starts now

I know that I definitely will not be attending.

No way will I go to watch a bunch of players run around the field like headless chooks when the board won't even make the esiest call and sack the coach.

FFS, we are 1 win and 6 losses, and nearly every single one of those losses have been disastrous, no effort, no co-ordination, no skills, no tackling.
If that isn't grounds for sacking a coach, especially when you add on that we went from a team that finished 9th to last under his tenure, I have have no idea what is.

Yeh let just keep sacking coaches...

Sack the next one too while we're at it

Same crap over and over again
I think you'll find on the coaches sacking ladder we are mid table at best.

Since Parko left Richmond, Freo, Melbourne, Adelaide have all sacked more of than us.
Ratts had 5 years. Micks already had more time in charge than Mark Nield

And all against sides that if we had have looked at the fixture before round 1 we would have thought were winnable. We had a very easy start to the year fixture wise and the fact we have been made look 2nd rate by sides who wont play finals is a disgrace.

Sturt
My View.

1. Meet with Malthouse and Silvagni. Make it clear that we believe that the current list is not up to playing AFL, and that we need a full rebuild. Discuss a plan to build a list to be competitive in 3 - 4 years and make sure that both of them can commit to working together to achieve that goal. If Malthouse is up for the challenge than ask him to sign immediately for 3 more years as we need the stability, and inform him that he will be measured at the end of the year by the development of the kids and not by wins and losses. If he is not on board, let him go immediately, promote Laidley with the same mandate and let him know that while there will be an extensive search and open selection process for a new coach, what he does with the kids this year will be taken into account should he wish to apply.

2. Sack and payout Green and Barker, the are both simply awful at their roles and I believe that they are actually hampering the development of the young kids. Just get rid of them immediately, Wiley can coach the back line and offer Sav a 1 year contract to coach the forward line.

3. Meet with the senior players, Juddy, Murph, Carrots, Simmo, etc. Let them know what we are doing and that the older players are not likely to be play much this year, those that want to retire, great, pay them out and thank them for their service. Those that want to stay and help mold the kids great.

4. Setup three meetings, One with the all of the managers in the afl and representatives from the players association, to be addressed by Macca, Malthouse (Laidley)and SOS for say 9am Monday. One for the senior players and their managers to be addressed by Macca for say 11am Monday, and one for the kids and their managers to be addressed by Malthouse (Laidley) and SOS.

a) Get together with all the player managers and let them know our plan (most will already know of course), let them know that we recognise the role they have played in many of the successful trades over the past few years, and that while we are looking to trade out a number of players, that we are asking for their help to make sure that their clients are well looked after and if possible get to where they want to go. Also sell them on the new environment at Carlton, the opportunity for their younger clients to get game time, and to increase their salaries faster than they could elsewhere. Think GWS / GWS but in Melbourne.

b) Address the senior players and let them know the new plan, tell them that we all actively be looking to trade players out and bring younger players in. Inform them that if they wish to leave that we will do our best to trade them to their preferred club, but we will trade them for the best possible outcome for the Carlton football club.

c) Address the kids and let them know that they are our future captains, leaders, etc amd that we will be doing everything we can to fast track their development, and that includes playing them as often as possible. Talk to them about the meeting the senior players are having and that there may well be some hard feelings around the club at the moment, and that they as a group need to come together and start to shape this team.

Just because sacking the coach is often the wrong choice and a cop-out for bigger problems doesn't mean it's always the wrong choice. Carlton has many problems including player issues but I'd put the gamplan and head coach (and many of the assistants) right up there at the top of the list.

Yes game plan is terrible, player issues, bad recruiting, Mick may well be past it, the people he has around him are questionable, Now my opionion is we gain not much by sacking him and I hope M Lo is true to his word.

Its all really painful for everyone

If Mick stays he should lose some control over his assistant coach choices. He can't keep bringing in his guys to be yes men. Review all of them.

You look at our assistants and wonder .... which one would I be happy to have as caretaker coach if Mick went? There are no standouts is there?

I'm also thinking Rob Wiley's role is not really achieving anything.
You had two good assistants under Ratten with Alan Richardson and Gavin Brown. Despite them being ex Collingwood, both were/are well respected.
There was some talk that both left the Pies due to issues under MM (not sure how true) so was not surprising they left.
I was never a big fan of MM as couldn't understand how some players were gifted games ( IMO) then others would play one game and then draped. Have never forgiven him for Scotland leaving was one of my favourite players. You always knew what you would get from him.
Really hope things change for you, need a competitive Carlton.
