You see this is the thing that sets our club apart from Richmond, Collingwood & Essendon. Their supporters are more inclined to stick fat through the tough times. Unfortunately Carlton has way too many fair-weather supporters, who only want to be involved during the good times.

Off you go, AWG. The club & the rest of its supporters won't notice that you have gone.
She's entitled to keep her money in her pocket if she believes the club has made a huge mistake in appointing a coach.
That's entirely different from supporters who jump on and off based purely on on-field performances.

I would certainly miss her and the club better be ******* sure this guy, who is alienating players and supporters alike, is worth the price.

The problem with some Carlton supporters is they are easily alienated.

Is it coincidence that during the tough times of 2002-2007 the best membership numbers we could muster were in the mid 30k, yet whilst playing finals the numbers stayed above 40k?

If supporters can't stick with the club when things aren't going well, the time may come when our club is playing home games in Tassie, or Nth Qld, NT etc for survival. We were on the brink 10 years ago, supporters cannot allow us to get there again. We no longer have the bargaining strength we had in the '70s, '80s & '90s. If the AFL decides it needs to relocate a couple of Melbourne based teams in years to come & we can't demonstrate sufficiently strong membership numbers, we could find ourselves in the gun as much as North, or the Bulldogs, Melbourne etc.

Do you know the circumstances of all those people?

AWG has a legitimate beef with MM's methods and you acuse her of being a fair weather supporter.
You asked AWG to piss off and take her concerns about MM with her.

That's the sort of response i'm used to reading on Bomber Blitz.

wowsers ... what is going on in here?

The sooner people accept the reality of where we're at, the easier it is to stay calm. We showed heart and spirit and it kept us competitive for a half ... Partly us, more so Sydney not being switched in I would guess. But, as I expected, our weaknesses surfaced and Sydney ran away with it. What's surprising about that?? Nothing.

MM knows our list is not up to scratch, as most of us do. I think there would be 5 players whose names I would immediately put a cross through and more in the seconds (including Waite) but we are limited by salary cap, draft etc. You can't just make things change overnight.

The feelings that I am getting from the players that I care about (ie the ones that I want in the team) are that they are forming a good bond with each other and with the coach. Mick's history proves that he develops this in his teams.

The supporters need to realise that Mick has the runs on the board, and you can't argue with that.

The only response this deserves, is a response to say that this post is not worthy of a response .........

Gotta stick fat

Through thick & thin

Yes its painful, upsetting, but you have to stick with our boys, hell look at those melbourne supporters off to the G week in week out over the years...toughen up peeps
Spot on Esky, it is easy to get angry, our time will come and all you can do is be patient in the meantime. There have been some reasonable signs this year.

First of all, I didn't tell AWG to "piss off", I said off you go & your absence won't be noticed.

Second of all, 2 years ago I posted on here that replacing Ratten with Malthouse would not be the panacea some posters thought it would be. Our disappointing 2012 season reflected two main issues: 1. A bad run with injuries; 2. A list which had peaked in 2011 & was not a Top 4 list despite some posters stating otherwise. The reality is you cannot just keep turning over coaches. This sort of panic management will not attract decent players to the club & does not allow a club to have stability among the players, with different coaches having different ideas & seeing some players in a different light.

Thirdly, I can't believe you read Bomberblitz.

As fnm said once people actually accept where we are the less anger they will get when we get done by a top team.

Sydney beat Geelong by 100+ up there, they dominated us for a quarter (what a quarter that was) and this thread is full again.

Give a coach (new or old) 3 years at a team before casting judgements. Being pushed for not being good enough will make someone angsty but the ones we want to keep around are revelling in the current set up.

The team we had wasn't highly competitive we couldn't get close to any side above us in 2011 except in that final but that was our ceiling.

Yarran, Gibbs, Simpson, Murphy, Jamo, Rowe don't seem to think it's a toxic environment

Malthouse has really been underwhelming for Carlton in almost 2 years. As an outside observer he seems to be given considerable leeway because of what he has achieved at other clubs. It's really hard to actually see a scenario where Mick is around long enough to deliver the club another premiership. In my mind, if a young coach like Stuart Dew, who has been involved with successful programs as both a player and coach, is available, why not pursue him.

What would Clarkson, Longmire or another premiership coach be achieving with our list?

We don't have Hawthorn's footskills and forwardline.

We don't have Sydney's concessions and list.

We don't have a midfield that is as it's best like Freo's. This isn't the same Judd who played for Ratten.

Ratten failed to build the right culture and set up the right development academy for our youth. Reckon Mick is still righting the ship after his hands were tied in his first season.

Now direct us to the Brisbane-esque exodus of senior players...

The sentiment is the same. You should treat you fellow posters with more respect.

You're accusing her of being a fair weather supporter when she's made it clear she's unhappy about MM.

It could easily be argued that the club rely on rusted on members who are too lazy to question the value of the membership. Happy to go along with a club that's made shit decision, after shit decision because they can't be bothered to apply the slightest analytical rigour before reading out their credit card details.

The Bombers rely on this non-thinking to keep up their fight.

Our club is worth fighting for and that fight won't be won by people who's main concern is if they get a cap AND a scarf this years members pack.

But you can have your voice heard in other ways. Withdrawing your financial support, and attending a game as a general admission spectator will just boost revenue for the AFL and make it harder for us to achieve the programs we have put in place. Support the club, and back their decisions. The club cant do everything that everyone wants...because we all have conflicting opinions on what should happen. Weve made a choice to go with Mick, he's not a fool....and anyone who doesnt want to support the club because of this has the right to go away. The club is bigger than any individuals.

The club has made few decisions of any quality for some time now.

We had a brief moment of sunshine when Dick Pratt took over and then, just as things started to look up, we completely screwed the pooch.

I'm struggling to nominate one action our club has taken since the Judd deal that's led to any improvement in on-field performance.

We've been in a holding pattern of shit for 3 years.

I've always supported carlton buying a membership when money was tight but I just don't see us moving forward under the current structure I think the game plan is antiquated and mm doesn't even have a football manger to answer to a. Coach having a free reign is. Very dangerous look at st kilda
