Mighty Mick Martyn has publicly said that he's finished with the Kangaroos after his delisting about a week ago...

He said that it was an ill formed and uneducated judgement to delist him and as a result will NEVER return to the Kangaroos in any way shape or form...

Taken straight off Sport927.

Sad. There's nothing worse than a sportsman who doesn't know when to go, and for old Mick, it was definately time to go.

Especially sad with what his late father did for the club, and how much service Mick gave to the club himself. I think he's talking with his heart and not with his head. He'll probably come around. You don't want another bitter Bartlett type in football.

Wake up and merge with the real world Mick!!

If he couldnt see that coming he is a fool.

He should have taken the offer to retire and bowed out of the game gracefully as he deserved. Now one of the things he will be remembered for is leaving the game all bitter and twisted and someone who is estranged from his club.

That's a disgraceful attitude by Mick Martyn. I wonder what his dear departed dad who live and died for the club would think about what he said? Mick, the Kangaroos played you for about 2 season longer than they should have. They were loyal to you far beyond what they needed to be in today's profesional world of football. Stop behaving like a baby and have something nice to say about the club who gave you EVERYTHING!!!
I am tired of these idiot footballers who think their own needs are more important than those of the club they represent.

not too bright

What a fool Mick is. He was going through the motions nothing more and was past it. Another bitter and twisted ex footballer, maybe he can open a pub with T Shaw and KB.

Still I am not surprised, guy is as thick as two bricks and anyone who saw his deplorable efforts on the footy show this year would not be surprised by this unconsidered outburst.

Still the Saints will take him.

Very sad situation. Again Roo supporters have been kicked in the teeth. We would have loved to say our due goodbyes to Mick; but not to be. Perhaps as someone else suggested knee jerk reaction. Think again Mick. Val

North offered him an off-field defensive coaching role, and the opportunity to retire. If he feels this way about it, I hope he never returns to the club. Wayne, Mick and Denis can hold their own little premiership reunion parties.

Mick can blabber on about the fact that he should still be playing at 65 years of age, Wayne can tell them both about the roots he is still getting and Denis will be lighting up cuban cigars with $100 notes John Elliot promised him post sacking.

F*** them all. If they do not want to be involved, they can get stuffed.

Forever is usually a very long time.

However because the Roos may only have one or two years of existence left, Mick's estrangement from his club will not last very long.

The club is falling apart at the seams and selfish attitudes like this from Mick Martin do not help.

At the very least, it is a testing time for the club. New business plans may be in place but the playing group fabric, so long the strength of the club, is being somewhat eroded. Maybe appointing someone known as "The Junkyard Dog" as coach will turn out to be a wise move.

What a moron. Any half intelligent person could see that his time was up. If he is expecting to get picked up in the draft then he's gonna get a rude shock!!

you are all being harsh on micky...

i mean what do you expect from a guy who publicly backed Carey...he isnt the smartest thing walking around Melbourne, maybe slightly smarter than spiderchick. speaking of whom, i think north is one of the 7,984 clubs that she supports, considering she has an opinion on everything, i wonder what she thinks of all this...

mick, pull your head in son....move on and be happy if a VFL side picks you up.

Of course, Port might pick him up

This is just very sad in every respect. Never the sharpest tool in the shed, someone should keep Mick away from the media before he says more stupid things he's going to regret.
Mick, it was time to go. After watching his inept performance against Wilson in round 22, it was clear the writing was on the wall. Martyn spent that game trying to 'physically intimidate' a guy about twice his size by doing heaps of pathetic, dirty, niggly little things because he wasn't strong, fast or smart enough to play him otherwise. Wilson, meanwhile, spent the entire game kicking goals, taking sitters, and looking confused and disturbed as to why Mick kept on trying to stroke his pectorals. Usually, there's nothing more entertaining than watching your FF give a FB an absolute towelling, but watching Martyn trying to defend Wilson by, eg, stepping on his foot after he had already marked, was just painful and embarassing for all concerned, like watching a one legged person trying to go the wrong way down an escalator.
If Martyn knew what was good for him, he'd take his retirement with good grace. If he can't do that, could someone at least shut him up before he makes an even bigger ass of himself?

spiderchick thinks Mick thinks North Melbourne is a charity...by the way like the new sig do ya Philly boy? I am quite proud of it :D

I can actually understand how Mick feels. At the moment he is probably hurt and humiliated at how it was handled. Maybe his time was up, or maybe he could have gone another year. Did NM give him the option to retire or did they just delist him? At least Carlton treated Bradley with respect and gave him the option of announcing his retirement and going out with the dignity he deserves.
I have a lot of respect for Mick Martyn and I feel for him at the moment. He can come to Carlton anyday. Maybe not as a player now, but I am sure he would fit in nicely as a defensive coach or something similar.
It's sad on both sides. One side the way Mick is taking it and the other the way North handled it.

When I read the article , I thought he was upset in the way he was NOT told of his retirement, eg by some reporter from the Herald Sun 2 days prior to the club talking to him. Now if thats the case, I can see why he is cross. Its the manner in which the club has conducted itself which is very very poor.

I think they gave him plenty of hints and tried to encourage him to announce it at the last game so that he could be chaired off with John Blakey.

Hints? How professional is that? Did they actually talk to him and say 'this is how it is Mick. You will not get a place in the team next year. You can take the option of announcing your retirement and go with pride or we will delist you and humiliate you publicly'.
From what I hear Mick didn't know anything about it, until it was announced. I do not know it that is true or not, but if it is, then it was pretty poor effort on North's part. And also if it is true then I can understand why he is upset. Does anyone really know what actually happened?
