Changes behind the scenes

The Power has announced some minor changes to the structure of its football department, most notably to recruiting guru Alan Stewart, who has requested a part-time role for lifestyle reasons.

Details of the changes are as follows (with new titles in brackets):

Alan Stewart (Senior Scout): Alan Stewart, who previously held the position of National Recruiting Manager, requested for lifestyle reasons to move to a 75% part-time position. Accordingly, Alan has relinquished his role as National Recruiting Manager, and now has the title Senior Scout. Alan will obviously continue to be heavily involved in drafting and recruiting at the club.

Mick Moylan (National Recruiting and List Manager): Mick Moylan (was General Manager – Football Operations) has taken over the National Recruiting Manager position, reporting to the Chief Executive, as well as maintaining responsibility for the playing list of the Port Adelaide Football Club. Mick will continue to do player contracts and oversee any matter relating to the playing list. He will no longer be responsible for administration of the Football Department.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Anyone know whats behind this change on Stewart's part?

There have been a few rumours around the place that he, or maybe his wife, was tired of his constant travelling and being away from home. So the lifestyle explanation is the most likely. He only recently extended his contract and was quite chuffed about being one of the originals and continuing so it's unlikely there's been any fallout.

... then again maybe he's sick of doing all that work and watching Choco leave his selections to rot ... ;)

My sentiment exactly. Although was he the one responsible for the recruitment of Morgan and Bishop???

Ford,

Do you know when his contract expires?
2005 I would suggest from this article which says he re-signed for 3 years at the end of 2002:-

Stewart quashes speculation
PortAdelaideFC.com.au Wed 23 October, 2002

Alan Stewart will be Port Adelaide’s recruiting manager well beyond this year’s national draft despite media speculation about his tenure at the club. Stewart has a three-year contract which make him a nine-year servant at the Power.

Stewart is regarded among the best talent scouts in the country and is also highly rated at Port Adelaide.

“I’ve signed a contract for three more years, which will take me up to nine years with the club. I think I was the second person employed at the club and I’m continuing in that role and I want to be here when we win a flag,” Stewart said on FiveAA on Wednesday afternoon.

Stewart joined the club in 1995, having been senior coach of Central District between 1991 _ 1995 and immediately went about finding the best local and interstate talent for the inaugural Power squad that came together for the 1997 season.....................................................................

not sure about World Champion but like you I knew there was an article somewhere.

I couldn't find it on the Port site last night but today I checked through the emails I send out to everyone in the Top End Supporters Group from where I found the story and link.

It's just further proof how bad the Telstra run club sites are as I couldn't find the article using 'Alan', 'Stewart' or 'Alan Stewart' on it's own search engine.
