Yeah fair points made. I'm not involved in any forms of cricket these days...just a keen observer and fan of the game. Your points are made from actually being involved in the game at a grass roots level.
Even if they do change it at the grass roots level, it's going to take many years to filter back up. Somehow they are going to have to fast track the development of players. Or at least develop them properly at a minimum. I don't believe players are being developed properly at state level given the nature of the game these days. Not having a proper grounding as per your post is not a good start!!
We have a generation of Milo players, players that have elite talent (listen to everyone of the dinosaurs talk about the young talent and they all say "they are better players than me") but they don't have the technique or mental application that separates the wheat from the chaff at the highest level. Plenty of youngsters can come in a blaze, but they are far less consistent than players of yester year. Under this system Mike Hussey doesn't make it.
I'm not sure you can fast track it, it would take a lot of money to identify the best candidates and put them into an academy system, noting that Adam Gilchrist took off most of year 12 to go and play in England. Plenty of poms (Stuart Broad at Hoppers Crossing) have done the same over here. It's an education process over time an in my opinion can't be fixed by 2-3 weeks at the academy.
