I have seen a lot of things around the cats this week that have made me chuckle.

Microcosms.

Results of all sports are often decided by millimetres, nanoseconds and other microcosms. Abletts snap at goal shaved the inside of the post and Egans left hoof was a fraction wide. As a result we are crap, have no passion, no character, no future and are the media bunnies for the week. If eithor microcosm went our way it would of been a gutsy courageous win in the face of adversity and a crippling injury list. A team that refused to wilt depite blah blah blah... Time for some perspective perhaps.

Delusions.

Another greater chuckle is the great man Gary Ayres has chosen to have a swipe. Ayres is quite simply delusional. Rather than rant about the obvious state he left our club in I am concerned that Thompson is becoming delusional just like Ayres did in his time at the cattery. Why is it many coaches make more and more judgement errors the longer they are into their job. A good coach has always had the ability to stand back and call an ace an ace and a spade a spade. Thompson was a sound judge of talent, tactics and a host of other things. But just like Ayres he is starting to over rate our list, persist with players and tactics that aren't working and take shot term solutions because we are nearly there. His history seems to be clouding his judgement from the facts. His players have become his children, he is emotionally attached but needs to let some go... If he chooses to remove the minimum requirement of 3 players at end of year then the process of becoming delusional will be complete. Then Frankie Costa comes to the party with this little gem reported in The Age.

"I'm convinced that if it were not for the injuries we have suffered our club would be laughing our way to success at the end of this year."

Thanks Gary for coming along this week and reminding me of the power of delusion.

Charades

Finally Robert Walls gets in on the act and says Thompson lacks passion. Do we really want a coach like Eade or Wallace that spend half their time playing charades with themselves? Be yourself Mark and ignore this utter crap. Footy is played best with controlled aggression and a clear mind that cvan make correct decisions instantaneously. If the coach shows calm then hopefully the players will follow the example in the heat of battle and I for one will be happy. No need to waste energy on playing charades just to show the fans that you care. Besides Wallace and Eade haven't achieved anything that Thompson hasn't.

So at the end of the day do we lack passion, character, courage and all this other crap or are we just a team that isn't good enough and has had a few more injuries than normal..

A bit of both? Neither? The latter?

I just don't know anymore!

Good post. That therefore raises the matter of who Geelong will let go at the end of the year to make way for new players. Who will go? Clearly Sanderson will retire at the end of the season, stating in the footy record that after footy his dream is to go to the 2006 world cup, which is held mid-year. Riccardi may leave, but therefore means we no longer have anyone on the veteran list. Jimmy Rahilly will probably be let go, as the only reason he stayed this year was Ben Grahams departure. Will Slade may be injured but does not seem to be worth a spot on the list, a regular night clubber in Geelong and general liability to the club. Matthew Spencer looks in trouble, but Bomber would be mad to let him go without letting him fire at least one shot in the big time. McCarthy is a fantastic player, but struggles with injury. Could be fantastic trade bait for a club looking for a big forward such as the Hawks. Other than that Bomber seems a bit fond of his other guys, and as you said, would be very reluctant to let them go.

We're a team that whilst having a depth of talent, doesn't have a depth of experience and big bodies, hence the injuries have hurt because we've lacked a bit of phyiscal pressure, leadership and general 'flow'.
But as for lacking passion, character and courage.... no way. We saw last year what this mob can do in these areas when things go right, it's just about learning the right balance when things don't go right.

answerman would know better given he won one in the past, but basically each month we select a post or two we consider brilliant and they receive $200 worth of Musashi products.

We've nominated your post for consideration.
At the end of the month Appleyard will go through the nominations and choose his favourite.

I've heard the Musashi stuff tastes ordinary, but i wouldn't knock it back if they wanted to give me $200 worth of the stuff for nothing.

BTW Please post more Scarlett Fever. If this thread is any indication, you would bring a heap of quality to the board.

I thought it tasted great! I really liked the protein bars, actually. I don't know why others would say it tasted ordinary.

Interesting post. There is certainly a lot to be said one way or another on some of the things you've posted, but you've encapsulated some of my thoughts pretty well there.
