I think Austin had a good view of Boyd from Footscray so not a wild guess.

Also our list has changed since we took 2 players in the MSD that year, also we have made a commitment already to Duffy and maybe both Campo boys as well. So we have less room to accommodate a hit and hope type.

I dont understand the, we dont have room to accomodate a hit and hope type, we do, we have two spots available. Most players nominate/accept the 6 month contract, the 6 month contract doesnt make a difference to how tight list spots are at the end of the season.

You've stayed your position on this multiple times. I understand and even agree with the logic, but they've said we are only taking one.

Why not take it at face value? It's not like it's a second hand rumour. Agresta says it himself in the gettable video.

Those of us who disagree are still taking it at face value, i believed you when you posted it, i believe Agresta when he says it and i think its a dumb arse decision that makes no sense, is a huge risk and is boring, adds to the narrative that Austin lacks imagination and is conservative.

I'm guessing it's a combination of wanting to be fair to players picked, keeping some salary money available, and hoping that as season continues some injury troubled players come good so easing pressure on AFL side. I can see the argument for an additional pick to help VFL side, but that season is done, and I am not sure how much another player would move the dial...

There's room, but it's not a costless exercise.
The club obviously thinks the costs outweigh the benefits of adding a hit-and-hope type.

I see it as very risky regardless, we currently have two spots available with HOK out until after round 20, barring any setbacks, then you’re assuming we dont have any season ending injuries between now and the end of the year.

I dont know how the finances of any new picks affect the cap, but if things are that tight, then that’s a concern in itself.

No idea what he was like as a person but every time i watched Brisbane i thought Mathieson did pretty good, id have him ahead of players in our reserves for sure.
Average bloke who is now a body builder and looks massive. Might fail the drugs test, definitely fails the no s&@t blokes rule.

The chances of any mid-season draftee having a meaningful impact this season is low, regardless of whatever injuries we get. If we get that many injuries, we're likely done anyway.

When talking about costs, it's not only the salary cap!
It costs resources in terms of coaching, S&C, physio, medical, admin etc., which is wasted resources if we're using it on a 1 in 100 shot who's probably only going to be at the club for 4 months.

And who knows, maybe the salary cap savings might mean we can cut a contracted player we don't want a year early?

Let’s just hope we nail the pick we have. A lot of my angst at the decision to only take one comes from knowing that getting a regular player in the MSD is unlikely, so want to take two picks to increase the odds.

It’s a good discussion and exciting to get a new player to track.

Sounds abit like when the placement agencies ring and offer free interns for 3 months with the caveat that we can hire them after.....

Ok but I don't want to waste time effort personnel etc setting them up, admin work etc... with such a low chance of future success/ no guarantee anything works out. Time of setup and individual teaching is too high for such a short 'investment'.

Imo I agree with the 18months bias agresta has. Seems smart

Up until earlier in the week, I had assumed Ben Camporeale was a good kick because his father was a good kick.

Given his parents, is it safe to assume Jack Paris is a quick runner? Or would it be more fool me a second time?

Shocking human by all acounts and as BF36 says he wont pass a drugs test imo:

I think another aspect of not using the 2nd pick is the depth of talent isn't really that good. It's not as though though there's a stack of 22-24 yr old guns just waiting to be found in the lower leagues and we're shooting ourselves in the foot by passing on a 2nd pick. It's a crapshoot at best.

Yeah, I reckon Austin is trying to bank the money saved for end of year LM trip.

Irish junkets, what a crock…

Why can’t we push the AFL for a zone in the NT and harness some electric indigenous talent from our own back yard, support, grow the game and do good for our own country and community…
