I don’t mind the selections.

Ramm moves very well for an 18 yo, 202cm giant. Appears to hold his position in one on one marking contests, and is not afraid to hit a pack. There’s definitely something to work with there.

I’m meh on Liddy, but Ewan already seems to possess more AFL traits then McEntee, Charleson & Tommy A combined.

Glenelg’s premiership hopes rocked by two mid-season draft blows on a big night for the SANFL

On another big night for the SANFL, six players were snapped up by AFL clubs. But can Glenelg and Central District recover from these mid-season blows?

Glenelg’s SANFL premiership hopes – and pursuit of a historic three-peat – have been rocked after it lost two towering key defenders in the AFL mid-season rookie draft.
2024 premiership full back Oscar Adams was picked by Gold Coast at pick 7 while his fellow key backman, giant teenager Harrison Ramm, went to Port Adelaide at No. 3 as the SANFL was plundered, with six players selected at the draft.

The loss of their backline twin towers halfway through the season has left the Tigers with giant holes to fill in their defence and seriously dented their flag hopes.

Four other SANFL players are also off to the AFL.

LOL

I hope they all get 18 months to show something. We must be moving on a lot of players at the end of the year...which seems a good thing.
Mani Liddy for Travis Boak (Retirement)
Harrison Ramm for Dylan Williams (Delisted) *Note: Not a like for like delisting but they both play down back.
Ewan Mackinlay for Jed McEntee (Delisted)

Adding the three would mean at least in the short term; one year, Port won't have to cut like 8 or 9 players or something at season's end. Though I still do expect Port to cut a few tree branches which aren't doing much and growing.

The sanfl was plundered with six picks (3 of them remaining in the sanfl). How will the other 207 who play each week ever recover?

I know very little about any of the three, but I do like the mix of type. A towering teenage tall defender who is already playing league, a strong and speedy half-forward/wing and a genuine centre-square clearance winning mid who finds plenty of the ball. They are types we need. You would be happy if just one works out.

I reckon Liddy and Mackinlay are a chance of debuting later in the year barring injury of course. Liddy for Boak and Mackinlay for Mead I guess. Ideally I would prefer Berry but he is still very green unfortunately.

Physically they're ready to go. And both Mackinlay and liddy look to have worked hard to improve their games to be selected. You have to admire that dedication.

Does it matter?

Not really. Ramm might develop into a longterm key defender option, so ok with that. He also replaces Moss and Walsh for the SANFL team this year, and we can compare his development side by side alongside Kyle Marshall who is a couple of years older.

The other two strengthen our SANFL side and are probably no worse than Mead or McEntee for their respective positions.

You'd think at the end of this year, there would be such a clearing of our list (Atkins, Boak, Finlayson, Charleson, Anastasopoulos, Soldo, Williams, McEntee etc) that there will still be room for Watkins if we can't fill the spots through the main draft.
That’s alot of spots to fill with no first rounder. Not saying those names shouldn’t go although at least one of them is contracted but we don’t have a strong draft hand. Interesting times ahead for us.

Dont forget Lai was very close before doing his hand so he is also waiting in the wings as is Lorenz. Lots of new toys once we get hinkley out we can see what theyre all truly made of

Graham Cornes is seething and already penning an article you'd imagine hopefully a mouse shits in his cornflakes overnight to complete the picture.
