In the off season clubs recruiting drive would it be invite local, vfl, undrafted Coates league players to train for a spot on the list. Or offer a contract to get them in.
So a player can be given a contract outside of the draft? But it would be a different type of contract that would just specify their salary sort of thing?
I suppose that once drafted players get more money.
Its all very complicated

Only for VFL recruitment.

If you have spots available, you can bring them in outside the draft. Things like not being drafted or if they are coming from another comp. Even delisted players are up for grabs

So then you can keep them as long as they don't nominate for a draft and get selected by some other club.
Think the penny is dropping.
Thanks.

Next to no chance May is available at our pick now, don’t know how it’s gotten out, reminds me a lot of what happened when we were into Bont in his draft.
I remember following that draft lead up intently for some reason and was wondering who this "Bontempelli" weirdo was we kept getting linked to in all the phantom drafts. Absolute bolter and we were taking him at 6 apparently. **** the Dogs taking him at 4. I dont think its hyperbole to say we win 18, possibly 19 and 22 and 23 with Bont in our sides from those years

After all this talk about how desperate the Pies are to get him it might make other clubs not bother. May wants to be in black and white clearly!!!
It might be a waste of time drafting poor Arch with Charlie West on the list. Be like throwing a chook into a T-Rex paddock at the first training session with Westy marking his territory

Don’t forget we had a Hine special in Smit last year. No-one had heard of him leading into the MSD.

While we don’t have the Hine factor to contend with any more (still love you Dekka), we may be keeping a secret about who we’re really interested in.

So, if the club gave Roan Steele a medical, what does that say?
Have they given any other players a medical?
Generally if a club has an interest in a player, they do a medical.
That was done weeks ago though, so lots of things could have changed.
Mason had a medical. Assume Browne has too. Easy for them, they do go into the club twice a week lol

Collingwood tragic Archer May will play a nervous waiting game on Wednesday night to see if a rival pounces on the big 198cm ruck-forward before Craig McRae’s Pies.
The Pies are desperate to secure May and have moved heaven and earth to give the 2023 premiers a chance for him to fall down the mid-season draft pecking order.

Collingwood not only told May that he should avoid playing this week, they also suggested he put an 18-month contract demand on his head.

May, 20, played at Brighton Grammar and Richmond’s VFL team before moving west to Subiaco this year and has been told the Pies will take him on Wednesday night.

But Essendon met with May for the first time on Wednesday and rival clubs believe North Melbourne, with the No.2 overall selection, are also keen.

May grew up supporting Collingwood, with his mother Julie the long-term partner of AFL legend Dermott Brereton.

He has kicked 12 goals in six games in the WAFL as he studies and works in finance.

Hawks five-time flag hero Brereton, who played 15 of his 211 games at the Pies, has helped tutor May in football tactics while his son Devlin has helped him bulk up in recent years in the home gym.
